I live in NYC but was in Brussels for work in the early 2000's and didn't realize my trip coincided with Ommegang. Colleagues from our Belgian office told me where to meet them that evening, out on the Grand Plaza where it was still light at 8 pm. They had grabbed a table and ordered copious Belgian ales, and by the time Ommegang began I was ready to think I had been transported back in time to the middle ages. Words cannot describe the scale of the pageantry and spectacle. I hope to return one day and experience it again.
