Interesting interview of a first class musician. I was a principal in the production of a major music festival of another genre, was in fact the Entertainment Coordinator so I was involved with all aspects of the production of the events. What struck me about the lives of the performers was the kind of difficulties performing over 300 different events per year entailed. Frankly it is a dog's life I wouldn't wish to inflict on anyone. Think about it, given all the time changes, and travel problems trying to get good food, not knowing what kind of accommodations will be available, the surprises that await when the performers come into a new town. How do you get your laundry done, get routine or even emergency medial care, what does one do in a strange town when one breaks or cracks a tooth, what is it like not being able to be with the people you love, where do you find a competent luthier that is able to work on the particular instrument you are performing with, imagine the down deep loneliness one can experience once he/she closes the hotel/motel room door, fan adulation just doesn't make it compared to being with a loved one. I was a good enough a musician that I was once offered a job in a touring band, it was flattering to the ego, but when I thought about being away from home and my wife and friends and having to deal with all the problems of working on the road, it was an easy decision to make for me, One must really love the music and performing in order to live the life an entertainer must. I am glad that there are good and talented people who can endure all the difficulties and privations that a road musician, even one as good as Ms Vidovic is must contend with. I am sure there are many talented musicians who we will never hear of who are as good or almost as good who find that they can't endure the life required to tour and perform over 300 engagements each year, I am glad that there are many who can do this, I have tremendous respect for those who get out there and perform engagement after engagement for our benefit.

There are a ton of incredibly talented young classical guitarists out there today - it's almost unbelievable the level of talent today compared to the 70s or 80s.... but even with that Ana's playing is in a different league for me. There are probably better and/or more aggressive technical players, but her musical instincts are so incredible - her ability to separate voices - subtly changing the dynamics, or the separation of the inner voicings on the fly. When she's at her peak she sounds like several guitarists playing together - interpretations that make "the old guard masters" of the guitar now sound dull and one-dimensional for me. When she plays baroque music I'm hearing the ensemble parts that are always lost in translation to the guitar. I don't think this can be learned - you either feel it or you don't, and then you need the chops to make it happen. People comment on her Jim Redgate guitars - a great guitar certainly doesn't hurt - but she was doing this in pretty much the same way when she was 15- long before she could afford killer instruments. I just wish she would record more - not DVDs... conventional repertoire LPs so the world is capturing her for the ages at her peak.

Astute appreciation of Ana's special gift, especially regarding the "...separation of inner voicings..." Elsewhere, someone noticed the near-perfect control of touch with the thumb on the E A D strings; which, as to mechanics, is crucial. Also, very fair to point out that no superb guitar could impart her talent, as great to hear as it might be. She is uniquely gifted. Yet, it may not be fair to disparage "old guard masters," since recording technology, as well as the advance of visual appeal in today's videos, may skew our appreciation. I'm sure we all have heard (? old enough?) Maestro Segovia, John Williams, et al. in live recital, then "heard" less magic from some recording or other. Not sure why listening via LP's would improve the pleasure of Ana's music - her personal beauty in DVD format, pleasing as it is, couldn't make up for any weak playing.

Ana is such an inspiration. I love using her techniques & wonderful visual videos to help teach my students. And anybody that has "difficulty" listening to what she says, probably doesn't play guitar & could work harder on exercising both sides of the brain, as I hear everything quite clearly & enjoyed the music that made it less dry. We're not discussing math, correct? My advice to most people that project negativity toward inspirational talented people or even the videos themselves need to go out & inspire people to this level before projecting negativity. Keep up the great videos & fine non-profit work Lisker Foundation. You have a new subscriber ;)

I agree that Am is the most beautiful chord. It's the most playful chord there is on a guitar. You can just move a few fingers, and it becomes music. You can't do music like Ana does, but only very few people can do that so that's ok, I think. You can create wonderful music simply by switching between Am and E and moving fingers.

Why is it that video makers have to always have music blaring away behind the narrative? It invariably drowns out the speech, as in this case. Here, the editor clearly hasn't listened to the final version.

I "love" me encanta to watch her playing with the guitar on the right leg. Me encanta verla tocar con la guitarra sobre la pierna derecha. I wonder that position is more natural. Creo que esa posición es más natural. Excelente toma de sonido además, una lástima que no la haya tocado toda ni y sin anteponerle un compás en Mi mayor, innovación de Kaori Muraji que hacen de arranque muy agradable a esa pieza de música.
