While I was reading Foucault I discovered this interesting connection between Analogy and narcissism. So here it is.

God is to you like your father is to you. Thoughts are like birds.

Nice to see you didn't end the channel. I'm a big fan of Foucault!

thanks. Yea, sometimes its hard defending Foucault, but his insights are too clear to deny imo

Yes! It’s people internalising objects.. giving people a sense of entitlement
@Ryans_Science11 күн бұрын
interesting. i remember entitlement being a thing in Christopher Lasch's book as well

@@Ryans_Science it’s the false self. When object relations fails in drastic ways. The child compensates by creating a “false self” eventually it gets larger than the true self. Swallowing the true self and now becoming pathological. It’s here they create the image that regulates the inner child (hidden, never to be seen again. Unless revealed) this superiority creates a grandiose and entitled world view within themselves. In this type of child’s world view. It owns everything, therefore can control to his liking or discard. Due to the object relations failure, is a state of introject permanency & a lack of object constancy. So the external is replaceable & the internal is permanent. Such a fascinating area of psychological complexity. You should check out Allan Schore: The development of the right brain over a life span. YT page is Per Christian Dahl Barn 2017. Absolutely mind blowing stuff!

haha thanks, I was worried I spent too much time giving examples that I might've lost many people by the end (which in my opinion was where the important part happened)🙂

Check out Umberto Eco and his ideas if you haven't. Feel like you'd like him.

interesting how that works, you would think one would get lonely or something...
@@Ryans_Science “narcissistic libido” they can self supply. They can manipulate people to gain both “narcissistic & sadistic supply”.. be that at work, through friends and family etc. The “shared” fantasy is used with anyone they want to invite into it. This is where the 4 S’s come in. The economy of the narcissist. Sex, Supply (N or S), Services (gifts, nights out, money, any type of gain) & safety (a place to be themselves & be passive aggressive etc and get away with it) that’s all they’re looking for.. very predatory behaviours 🤯

But what if the analogy is actually false? Is it still narcissism then?
@Ryans_Science18 күн бұрын
the analogy cannot be false unless the thing is not human. I am to my emotions as you are to yours. We all stand in the same relation as humans towards our own emotions. It would only be false if one added my emotions "towards" x are as your emotions are "towards" x or y, maybe that's what you were thinking of idk
@jacobscrackers9818 күн бұрын
@@Ryans_Science I thought you were saying that any denial of an analogy was narcissism.
@Ryans_Science18 күн бұрын
@@jacobscrackers98 o sorry, maybe i didnt make it clear. I meant only, a denial of the analogy of me to my possessions is to you and your possession, of which I considered feelings to be a kind of possession. Kind of like how celebrities are kind of presented to us as being of a different breed. that kind of thing
