Pleased to have been in college for the Demetri Martin era. He really was the antidote to the Dane Cook bombast.

Mitch Hedberg (RIP) was my favourite but Demetri was excellent too. You should check out the comedian Steven (Steve) Wright. He is the ultimate short-sentence / haiku comedian. He has a very direct, dry, and philosophical delivery style. Thanks for the video.

@@maxonmendel5757 I really have no idea about Bo. I vaguely think that what I have seen, through clips on the interwebs, that I thought he was funny. I grew up in the 80's & 90's. Like other Gen-Xers, I would say Steven Wright was foundational in developing my sense of humor. If you like Demetri, look up Wright's old appearances on Letterman. Sorry, that's the best I got.

He is definitely one of my favorite comedians from growing up. I find the style of a mono-story comedies hard to enjoy rewatches because they become a long drawn out story. So the quick shifts and monotone style feels more fresh to me whenever I get a rewatch.

Man I’m glad someone made this video. Demetri might be my favorite comedian as well. And I consider myself a big comedy fan. I’m 28 now but when I was probably 12 or so I saw his stand up special ‘Person’ on comedy central. I was absolutely blown away. His style and approach, how he used music and art, it seriously influenced me from a very young age and as far back as I can remember I was on KZfaq watching his sets and downloading his albums and stuff on iTunes. And then this show came out. My dad and brothers hardly ever gathered around to watch something every week, South Park for a while, but when this show was on we all made sure to watch it weekly. It was so great, we all just wanted more. Was sad to see it not get some more seasons but unfortunately that’s Comedy Central for you now. They just play the office 24/7 now. A couple years ago my parents and older brother and I got a chance to see him at the Warner theater in DC. He was fantastic. Not to mention Taking Woodstock and his movie Dean. He’s a really talented guy

Comedy group Aunty Donna wanted to do the connected sketches thing as well for their Netflix show and one of the producers on the show, Scott Aukerman who also wrote on Mr. Show, warned them against it and they tried but ended up giving up after realizing how many sketches would get moved around in the edit. If any comedy nerds here haven't seen Aunty Donna's Big Ol House Of Fun then they should

I loved the video (and, like you, I have a place in my heart for Dimitri Martin's work). First, I would like to thank you for your work in creating this video, and second, I would like to share two experiences about connections between sketches. For many years, I produced content for TV in Brazil, and despite making my money creating and scripting banal TV programs (talent and reality shows), I was always involved in alternative comedy productions. My first connected sketch TV project was rejected by Paramount because it would simply make an already expensive and risky format even more so (this was in 2008). The connection happened by mixing characters and scenarios between the sketches, which would weave together a series of stories taking place over 24 hours in a neighborhood of a specific city. The second time I worked with story connections in a similar way was producing a fictional podcast, and the result was that 80% of listeners didn't care about the connections. So I came to the conclusion that the focus on ambitious or complex formats is much more a desire of creators than something the public will appreciate. It's clear to me that the public is more interested in quick laughs, character development (narratives), or parasocial relationships with the performers. The rest is expendable.

My favorite comedians are usually ones that wear their insecure longing on their sleeves. It's relatable and makes them more human, even if I suspect that they're hamming it up for an audience. It's kind of like the idea that you can't be brave if you're never scared; otherwise you're just fearless or outging or whatever

I remember this show. It wasn't loud and outrageous but he was subversive in his own way. And there are plenty of out of the box comics. Stephen Wright. Michael Winslow. Mitch Hedberg. Joel Hodgson. Pee Wee Herman. It's art and everyone has their own way of expressing their art. Sure he's a clever guy but dude's not like the mind bender, using his psionic powers to scramble your mind. It's just a unique approach. But he's great. I love him. I'm not saying I'm any kind of genius at all but when he told that joke about "The best greatest thing ever, of all time, exaggeration. No, it's second guessing." I usually don't heckle comedians but all I could think about was wishing I was there so I could shout out "INTERRUPTIONS!" Anyone can do it but not everyone can pull it off like he does. He'd probably have come back with something like "Ignoring rude people." The comedian always has the last laugh.
