I Hope your daughter had an awesome Birthday! It was actually my younger daughters 22 birthday also! On the 13th too! We went camping over in Butterfield Canyon and gave a jumpstart to another July 13th birthday girl! She was turning 32! Hearing and seeing your relationship with your little girls brings back so many sweet memories of my little girls. Enjoy them while they're young. My kids, including our son, even though he's still a creepy teenager lol, still all like just hanging out and being together anytime, not just for holidays.

This song is our reality. My husband passed unexpectedly right before Christmas in 2014. My daughter was 10 and her daddy was a dance dad. Working on sets for productions at the dance studio etc. he died the morning after opening night of the studios big production in which my daughter danced. The show was to go on that night. Even though everyone told her not to, she demanded to “dance for my daddy” and she did. To this day she will NOT listen to this song. She heard the first verse and screamed at me to shut it off. If she hears the first notes, she will still turn it off. I’m sitting here alone crying, because I know that even at 20 years of age, she would ask that her daddy would dance with her and with me one last time. The only solace we have…and Sebs, I know you and Allie will understand…our family is eternal. Thanks for reacting to this song. In some weird way, I can almost feel my husband’s arms around me.

My Dad had prostate cancer that spread to his bones. He was only given 2 months to live. I took a break from my job as a Med-Surg nurse to become my dads full time nurse. He was in so much pain and when I had to transfer him I’d say “dance with me Daddy”. My died passed away one day short of the 2 months. I played this at his funeral 😢. It’s been 20 years and there’s not a day goes by that I don’t think of him. My Mom joined him 6 years later. I never thought I could do what I had to do being a girl. My only brother passed away 8 months before my dad from a blood clot after surgery. He was 37. There were 5 girls. I’m next to the youngest. She and I were the only ones to care for our parents. We were pallbearers for our Mom. Our parents raised us to be strong, independent, Christian women. These words ring true “My parents taught me everything I know except how to live without them” …….💔💔💔💔💔💔💔

I lost my dad this past May 3rd 2024. 2 days before my 55th birthday. His 56th wedding anniversary was May 18th. This song hit me hard. I was crying 😭 hard. I miss my Dad so much! 27 years in the Air Force and a Vietnam veteran. He will always be my hero and best friend!

I lost my dad less than a year after I graduated from highschool, he was so proud of me for doing what he didn't do. He was my best friend and twelve years later I still miss him, he always said that he'd dance at my wedding, it hurts to know that if that day ever comes neither my mom or dad will be there with me.

Another great dad song is Daddy’s Hands by Holly Dunn. Beautifully written and very emotional. My father spent all but my first 3 years in prison,where he died when I was 35. My mom raised 3 daughters on her own,became the first female deputy sheriff in our state in the 70’s and was a published poet with her poetry in the National Library of Congress. In 1994,she was murdered by her husband of 18 months. This song is the story of my husband and daughters. He met me at 15 and the mom of a two year old daughter. He loves both our girls and he is now 80 and slowing down. We have spent our lives together and unfortunately I will probably die before him as I have stage 4 cancer. I know our girls will take care of their daddy when I’m gone. I can’t ask for any more than that.

I never had the chance to know my father. I didn’t really miss him because it’s hard to miss what you never knew. There were times though, as we struggled in fosters homes and such…what would it have been like if I had had a Dad? So glad for all of you that got to experience good parents. It must have been great.

Luther was just one of those guys that could put so much emotion into a song and make you feel it deep in your bones. Every child, whether it be a boy or a girl, has had their father lift them up, as a baby, and dance with them. When you lose that connection, it's just heart breaking and most of us, who have lost parents, wish we could just see and speak to that lo ed one just one last time to say all the things you didn't get to say to them before they passed❤❤

Sebs....please check out Luther's tribute to Dionne Warwick, singing her song, "A House Is Not A Home" st the NAACP awards. ( video of his live performance). "Dance With My Father Again" is one of my favorite songs. It brings tears go my eyes as I recall my dad and how we went to father/daughter dances at school sponsored by the Girl Scouts. They were special moments so long ago ( some 68 yrs.), but brought to the forefront of my memories whenever I hear this song. Make those memories with your children now, because all too fast they are grown and out of the home. Thank you for reacting to it and thanks to Dave Ortman who knows how to pick them and request them.

My husband passed before my youngest daughter got married. At her reception for the father daughter dance portion she requested this song. Each of her 5 siblings took turns dancing with her and at the end i danced with her. Not a dry eye that night.

My husband had 3 daughters before I came along. And they were such daddy girls. I had never seen that like that before. Now they are grown have kids of their own. And they are still daddy’s girls. They talk to each other every day. And oh the grandchildren thinks Poppa it’s it. He goes bicycling and fishing with the grandsons. Thanks the girls out on dates. It’s precious. I'm what most would call a old lady now (in my 60s) and I remember when my dad was teaching me to dance. My little feet would be on top of his feet as we waltzed around. He passed before I was 8 and those memories are some of my Best Cherished moments with him!🥹💕

I went to a huge number of Luther concerts, he was one of my favorites. He passed away shortly before the release of this song, that's why he's not in the video. This is one of the only times I've listened to this song all the way through. I lost my father in 2003, and it's still to hard to hear it.

First time i heard this song, I cried...Why? My dad was a single dad. He looked after me and my two siblings, 6, 5, and 4yrs old, and he loved to dance. He passed 1996. Luther has an amazing voice...🙏☝️😌

I was raised by my Senior Aunt and Uncle (from 3 months to 8 years. We watched Laurence Welk, and my uncle taught me to dance at a young age. He is the reason, I know how to waltz. We attended several of their high school reunions, and I danced the night away at every one. I have never heard this song, and must say, it got me. My uncle played a pivital role in my life, and luckily, he got assigned as one of my guardian angels.

I lost my daddy when I was 8. I’m the youngest of 5. He was killed here in Oregon in the woods falling a tree. God let him live through WW11 to be shot down over Germany and survive 18 months POW. He had 5 children. Makes you wonder why. I still miss him!😢

My Father-n-Law passed away unexpectedly in 2007 and my In-Laws loved each other so deeply. I can remember my Mother-n-Law saying as my FIL took his last breath that she had him for 36 years but she wanted 36 more. Unfortunately, I came from a home where love was not present but I made it a mission if I had children they would live in a home of love ❤. It will be a year tomorrow that my Dad passed away and the only person he loved was himself up to his last breath.
