I have an early accumark 30-378, I took it to Zimbabwe last September. I used 180 grain barnes ttsx factory loads. Shot 6 plains game with it. All one shot kills. Impala to zebras to Eiland. One word- awesome!

I shot my guides 30-378 when I was hunting the Little Greys River area for mulies. It was very easy to ring steel at 500 yards, and with the muzzle brake the recoil was on the same level as a 270 Win. What a cartridge!

Oh…and how about chambering a few rifles in the 375 Weatherby again. Superb cartridge that would cost nothing to add to the line. At the very least as a Custom Shop offering.

So glad to have stumbled upon this video. I may have 200-400 shots left more than I had counted on. I bought one of these a couple of years ago and my dealer threw a box of cartridges into the deal. In getting the gun on paper it grouped as well as a good varmint rifle could. I went home and loaded up some test rounds, and then went back to the range. My final sight-in group was less than .2" (3 shots) at 100 yards-muzzle velocity averaging 3451fps with 180 GMX. Call me a liar if you like, but the gun room is minus inventory so I could buy a scope worthy enough to sit on the "King of Rifles."

I just purchased a 30-378 Accumark last week. Received the brass I purchased from you folks today, along with reloading dies and other essentials from MidwayUSA. The only thing I am lacking is an optic. Love the Accumark. I currently have the 257 WBY, 7mm WBY and the 30-378 i the Accumark. I do own a Remington Model 700 Classic chambered in 300 WBY. Given the oportunity, and permission from the wife, I would want to get the 300 WBY in an Accumark.

I just purchased my first Weatherby Mark V rifle in 7mm Wby Magnum. It had been stored in the previous owner's closet for over 40 years! He stated that he had never shot it! What a NICE FIND(closet queen) and in just the caliber I've been looking for...7mm Wby Mag! Gotta decide on what optics to mount on it! This became a birthday present to myself in March 2023! Lol!

I also love the Hammer bullets! I've loaded up a 92 gr Hammer Hunter in my 257 Weatherby and it's going 3866 FPS and shoots .3 inch groups.

I worked a couple years guiding mountain goat. The only round I ever heard the outfitter talk about that really impressed him was a guy who used a 30-378.

Think South Texas. If you try to harvest your does and management bucks from a stand or tripod with any caliber of rifle or bow, they adapt and move away quickly only to return long after the season is over especially during a wet year. The 30-378 is the perfect load for harvesting deer away from your blinds/stands that typically require a longer shot. That way hunters do not skip on harvesting does & management bucks while they are in the stand and before the rut.

This type of programming forum involving general discussions about the various projects and products produced by a company like Weatherby, by some of the main players in those developments...is an excellent idea! Especially, if you all have the time to possibly look at, or even reply to questions or comments by your viewers and consumers. I have spent a fair amount of time doing research with your various rifles and calibers over the years, starting naturally with a barreled action in .460 Weatherby that was stocked in a very nice piece of Bastogne walnut. It was my first or second rifle cartridge that I reloaded for back in 1973. Since then I have had every factory loaded caliber produced by Weatherby except the .224, .240, .270 and 7mm Weatherby magnums and the RPM's. The Rocket was not available, but definitely was interesting (as are the RPM'S)! It's hard to imagine just how important the contributions that Weatherby has made over the years to both the sporting and military side of things, but the landscape was changed thanks to your company! Your company provided the benchmark for a lot of testing that I have done with your cartridges and wildcats based on those and even some that I took several steps beyond, that were not suitable for production rifles/actions. On a number of occasions I would find a good deal on a Mark V rifle and then spend four or five times as much in load development! As one of the very first members of the .50 caliber shooters association, I have done a lot of experimentation with the .50 Bmg and it's alternatives and have written a number of articles for their magazine VHP. Some of the alternatives included .510 diameter calibers based on the equivalent of the Chey-tac case and another based on the .416 Rigby basic case necked to .510". It was on the latter cartridges load development program that I strayed over to the .460 case necked up to .510 (which happened to have a case capacity that was very close to the .50/416! The limited tests that I did with both showed significant promise with a 32" barreled railgun that I had built for that purpose. Testing was done with ~ two dozen powders. Muzzle energies easily exceeded 9,000 - 10,000 ft. lbs and peaked in the low to mid 11,000's with optimum burn rate propellents. Two projectiles approached 12,000 ft. lbs., with one of those (which was a not readily available projectile variant)... exceeding 12,000 within acceptible pressures! This was done with a load of 140 grains of the optimum propellent for those 750 grain projectiles. Briefly, the same Chey-tac equivalent cases were also used to test a .30 caliber improved variant that held ~ 50 grains more than the .30/378 and was found to be overpressure for any bullet weights over 110 grains... with any available propellent! It would handle up to 190 grain projectiles at above case failure levels and below gun damage levels. Later tests with .30 and .50 caliber propellent guns with chamber volumes of ~ 450 - 500 grains and 1,100 - 1,200 grains and l/d = 1 monolithic projectiles of 50 - 55 grains and ~ 225 grains respectively... would exceed the low to mid 6,000 ft./sec. range before hyper-velocity gouging onset would occur (almost every time)! The top velocity achieved (with the .50 caliber 225 gr.) was 6,980 > 7,100 fps... corrected to muzzle with inbore and (non-catastrophic) gun failure! The last part of this was in answer to the hyper-velocity portion of your program. By the way... the hyper-velocity gouging is a hard problem to get around in normal environments and with open and probably closed source venues. Sorry about the length of this... lastly, would a possible .40/.416 rpm straight case (or 9.3 RPM) be of any interest? Thanks for all you have done!

I found a used 30-378 made around 2004-2007. Still has some life in it. Finally got to shoot it, not a kicker to shoot but it did rattle the windows on the range shack.

My 2 fave rifles are a .257Weatherby and a .30-378...i cant think of any mammal i would hunt i couldnt take with those 2. 30-378 is my all time fave round!! Have been trying to work at Weatherby in Sheridan for about a year, just as a nite...hint hint...lol

The all-time greatest .30 EVER!! Maybe best cartridge period!!! Wish it wasn't $10+ a round, but dang it's awesome!!!

I would like to see a 7mm x 300 or 378 Weatherby case. A 170 or 175 Nosler Partition bullet would make an amazing deer and elk round. Never have to worry about windage or elevation.

The use of molybdenum when shooting high velocity bullets back in the day- the 22-250 was my initial fast bullet 50gr at 3650 FPS. I meet a Gentleman at the range that had worked up loads for artillery rounds during the Korea war: he told me it was to save the bore of the tanks and artillery guns. When I started on the 340 Weatherby with 250gr bullets I was able to get excellent accuracy at 3200 FPS- this was my Elk rifle- the shot that really sold me was 585 yards and another hunter came over to me who had seen the whole thing: he couldn’t believe how that Elk literally died were it was hit.

The best PG cartridge if you can handle the recoil.

I have an Accumark and a Mark V Deluxe. Both are chambered for the 300 Weatherby. I use Hodgdon load data for H4895, duplicating the performance of the 308 Winchester. In an 8.2-pound rifle, the recoil is very mild, and the accuracy is excellent. These loads are perfectly adequate for close-range deer and black bear hunting but will not burn barrels when plinking at the range. For reduced loads, it’s a good idea to follow Hodgdon’s reduced load data for H4895 but don’t go too low, or the necks will not seal properly, and carbon will blow back and impregnate your brass, causing it to look like crap - forever! Additionally, H4895 does not produce that burned gunpowder smell that millions of people have grown to love; instead, it smells like burned popcorn. But the performance is incredible. As for the 30-378…it’s really a bit much.

How about necking up a 340 to 358 (for us 35 caliber lovers) or even 366? Then how about chambering the vanguard in 270WM and 7mmWM? (You sales would increase) a hyper velocity 270 option other than 27 Nosler Maybe a 338rpm necked up to 358 or 366

What would be your recommendation for a Hammer bullet for the 30-378?

In 2019 me and my son took the Mark Thompson Long Range class and I gotta say for a 63 year old guy that thought he knew alot about shooting learned a heck of a lot of info from Mark Thompson. We both bought the Weatherby Mark V 30-378 and I have shot my New Mexico Oryx at 700 yards and killed a cow Elk at 300 yards I do all my own Reloading for this gun and am amazed how accurate and easy the Fixed Reticle Leopold scope is consistently hitting targets. We both Love this Rifle. Keep up the great podcasts. Adam is doing a great job with his hunting podcasts with his wife. I'm going to drop by the new Weatherby Firearms factory in April. I used to go into the Firestone Weatherby store with my Dad as a young Kid.

I have Like mark an sam after work a 31.5 inch barrel in a mauser 98 custom 30-378 for elr and wow 250 gr happily at 3225 fps very happy and 175-180 at 3700 very pleased

Such a cool cartridge. But those diminishing returns are just too diminishing OUT OF NORMAL BARREL LENGTHS. For conventional hunting rifles, I went with my .300 win mag for practicality reasons BUT feel that it’s awfully hard to meaningfully beat the original .300 weatherby and the .300 RUM as the perfect 30 caliber magnums. Roy had a lot right the first time.

I never had a good luck in a Accumark with heavy bullets...with 165-180s MOA...with 210-225 not so good--I have a custom that Dave Manson did for me we shoot 225s and 230s out of it--and yeah it's king.

Let's just glean over the recoil and expense. lol

I would love it if you guys would do a 7mm-378Wby. An absolute lazer beam and would be good for anything. Im thinking one in the carbon backcountry model rifle would be the ultimate backcountry deer and elk rifle

I’m alarmed that people who work for a guns ammo company think bullets moving to fast will pencil an animal. They don’t. If it’s moving too fast they explode on impact.

Need a .257 rpm and 6.5-300 ammo loaded with hammer bullets.

Saying "this is NOT for you" sounds kind of fud elitist. Wouldnt it be better to say "this isnt the best choice"? Because any gun is for anyone because second amendment purposes.
