I called Kohler warranty about a leak in my tub faucet and they are going to send me another Mixing Valve GP77759 (they sent one in 2016 after original failed after 6 yrs) but they said that they will not send a Pressure Balancer as they said that would not cause leaking? Just wanted your opinion Thanks,

I'm just an amateur plumber, so I would have to take Kohler's opinion. I did another video showing how to replace Moen and Delta cartridges (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ort5nJN21qy5iKs.html). Kohler was the first one I have seen where the cartridge is in two parts: the mixing valve and the pressure balancer. Delta and Moen have those two parts combined in one cartridge. So it is quite possible that the mixing valve part of the cartridge is usually to blame for the leaking. I'm not sure.

Changed the part, hot water restored, but the shower won’t shut off. Rotated 180 degrees and still running. Put old part back and still running. Any suggestions?

Are you referring to the main handle? There is no footage of the removal, but at 6:04 it is replaced by threading it on with the collar. Removal is the opposite obviously, but if it is on too tight, you may need a strap wrench to get it started.

Is there a way to know what kohler cartridge you would need before you take it out our do you have to take it out to find out what kind there’s different kinds of Cartridges for Kohler

This video was a great help. But after replacing the cartridge and using new o rings etc. it’s still dripping!!

It's hard to know what the problem is without seeing it. It could be a defective replacement cartridge, an error in the installation (bad or broken o-ring, mis-seated cartridge or holding ring, etc). I would try repeating the installation again, maybe with a different replacement cartridge. If that doesn't work, the last resort is to pay a plumber to make it his problem. Sorry to hear about your issue, but I wish you the best in fixing it.

If the hot and cold are now reversed, (in reference to the plate) which part do you flip? The valve or the internal balancer.

In the video, I believe it shows the position of the "Cold" printing on the rear valve. That printing should be facing down and on the right side if you are facing wall. Are you saying your cartridge is reversed?

Just a heads up. The video helped a lot. But you have it backwards. The cold was facing the other direction and I had the exact same model and everything. The rest of the video was outstanding.

How important is the silicon grease

The silicone grease just lubricates the o-rings and helps them seat better. If you were able to install the cartridge without grease and it works fine with no leaks, I would leave it alone.

Apparently, the 116995-6 code is on a variety of different valves; it does not indicate the model. Take a picture of your valve and call 1-800-4KOHLER to get the correct replacement model.

I had this valve and from day 1 it never worked. Hot was about 2% of the turn, then you move it and only the last 2% the other way change it. Its a stupid design. Kohler sucks. This valve is obviously over complicated. My advice is, get a plumber to rip this stupid valve assembly out and put a non-Kohler valve in place. It probably wont work from day 1 and if you give it about a year, it will be broken anyways.

Sorry to hear about your issues with the Kohler valve. I don't have much experience with that valve other than in my brother's rental.
