Follow us on Twitter ( / vicenews ) where we'll announce the next topic for On The Line.
On Thursday at 12pm EST VICE News correspondent Danny Gold ( / dgisserious ) joined On The Line to take your questions on the escalating violence between gangs and police in El Salvador.
El Salvador has now eclipsed neighboring Honduras as the most murderous peacetime country in the world. To combat the violence, the government has given police and military permission to shoot first, and ask questions later. The country's supreme court has ruled that gangs should be defined as terrorist organizations, and gang members can face terrorism charges.
Danny Gold traveled to El Salvador for VICE News to investigate what many are now calling a war between the street gangs and the government.

thanks so much Danny for making this documentary on El Salvador. As a person with Salvadorian parents (both who left ES to come to the USA due to the war back in the 80's). I just feel that ES is never really talked about anywhere on whats happening now. So thanks again man and great documentary!

I just got back from El Salvador. Did not see any gang members. Just regular people but there was a murder of a police officer in that town. I hit the beach and the local pubs and all good. I actually think the heat and the mosquitos are the true problem. Oh and i bought a shit load of cheese.

I really liked both the documentary and the On The Line piece but before I forget my question do you think these gangs both MS13 and MS18 have the potential to form a political power or support in the future. It seems the only way to stop these violence is to make a truce with the government but I would also like to see you guys do a documentary on the Mexican cartels, since I think it's one of the under reported topic in the media or is it too dangerous to cover this since it will uncover politicians ties with the cartels and how the cartels have bribed/threatened the local police to the point they operate without fear and total impunity. I really want to see an indepth documentary on the current situation in Mexico with the cartels and maybe talk to some cartel soldiers members and how they operate and how corrupt o ties the local and state government have with the cartels.

Yes well, if I had suffered at the hands of gangs I'd want the government to provide Justice as well. If it was me I'd have every Gang member identified & located, announce a state of emergency, declare War on all gangs & issue an execution order. All gangs affiliates are to be shot and killed on sight. I'd send out Commando Squads to get the job done, we'd start with everyone currently serving time in prison. After they're all dead, I'd reform the prisons, all cells would be solitary confinement, inmates would have zero communication with anyone, the reason gangs continue generation after generation is because of their influence, sometimes gangs issue orders from prisons and inmates tend to become more violent when they come out of prison then when the 1st went in. The confinements will have similar set up to the one in the movie OLD BOY, the Korean version.
