St. Symeon writes, "Brothers and fathers, already Pascha, that joyous day, that day of all gladness and delight, the day of Christ’s Resurrection, has arrived in the annual cycle. Rather, it occurs daily and eternally in those who know its mystery, and so has filled our hearts with ineffable joy and exultation. At the same time, it has brought to an end the toil of the all-venerable Fast; or, better to say, it has perfected our souls and consoled them as well. Therefore, as you see, after inviting all the faithful together to rest and to thanksgiving, it has passed."
"For He sees the dispositions and intentions of our souls rather than the toils of our bodies, whereby we exercise ourselves in virtue, whether we intensify our asceticism out of eagerness of soul or practice less than the zealous because of the weakness of our bodies. In accordance with our intentions He measures out the prizes and the charisms of the Spirit to each one, either granting fame and glory to him who is zealous or leaving him still in a lowly state and in need of more strenuous purification."
"Most men believe in the Resurrection of Christ, but very few are they that have a clear vision thereof. Those who do not behold it cannot even worship Christ Jesus as Holy and Lord. As Scripture says, 'No one can say, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ except by the Holy Spirit,' and, elsewhere, 'God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.'"
"That most sacred phrase which is daily on our lips does not say, 'Having believed in the Resurrection of Christ,' but, 'Having beheld the Resurrection of Christ, let us worship the Holy Lord Jesus, the only sinless One.'"

I just realised I am completely dead in sin. I see nothing, perceive nothing therefore believe nothing. I know with my intellect that Jesus walked the earth, that men walked with Him, that people have seen Him resurrected, that books & letters speak of Him, but i do not nor ever have known Him. 35 years of make believe, am I insulting the Lord by pretending to be a Christian? This homily is truth I'm sure, I've just started conversion, I think i really need to reassess my agenda in going to the true church of Christ. Thank you for this upload, truth is the only way. Amen.

We are at the exact same point. I like to believe that maybe the intellectual aspect was my path. Going from Protestantism all my life, to baptism in orthodox in two weeks, I’ve decided to just go for it even though I don’t experience Jesus in the way I hear other faithfuls describe. Maybe I’ll be granted true faith when I’m 80 idk

Christ is closer to everyone than they might assume. When it comes to St Symeon the New Theologian, I think a better takeaway is that one should learn from a spiritual father how to attain theosis like Symeon did, rather than to feel helpless and like a failure, or that time has been wasted. It's good to realize there is something greater, but the point is to aspire toward that in actuality. Just my personal opinion.

I am leaving Protestantism and am in a period of discernment between Orthodox Christianity and Roman Catholicism. I believe one of them must be the church founded on Pentecost. Any resources you would recommend on the Orthodox perspective of the Filioque and Papal Supremacy?

God bless you as you discern the truth! I have a few suggestions for you: St. Photios the Great "The Mystagogy of the Holy Spirit" is a fundamental text against the filioque: www.myriobiblos.gr/texts/english/photios_mystagogy.html St. Mark of Ephesus' Encyclical Letter regarding the filoque and the Council of Florence: orthodoxethos.com/post/the-encyclical-letter-of-saint-mark-of-ephesus St. Justin Popovic "Papism as the Oldest Protestantism": orthodoxinfo.com/inquirers/papism.aspx A Comparison of the spirituality of St. Seraphim of Sarov and Francis of Assisi: orthodoxinfo.com/praxis/francis_sarov.aspx Craig Truglia has a lot of great stuff on his blog: orthodoxchristiantheology.com/ Jay Dyer (I don't recommend everything from him, though some of his content is really helpful) did a wonderful job breaking down Vatican 1 here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kLB7d5l-nry5pYk.html I've not read this book but have heard great things about it: Two Paths by Michael Whelton Ultimately, through all your reading and discernment: pray, fast, and go to the divine services. What you read, even the best most enlightening texts, won't have their potential effect on you if you are not trying to live a basic Christian life, at least as much as you can in whatever stage you are in. Find the best parish and best priest near you and learn from them and experience Orthodox life. Let me know if you need help finding a parish or also a monastery to visit near you.

This is truth in action that we are born again allowing God's spirit within us to do the will of God. So sad that that we forget to say may the Holy Spirit be one with you in thought and deed but rather we say may the Theotokos be with you. Unfortunately pagan worship has crept into our theology worshiping many gods rather than the true God. We should venerate saints and the Virgin Mary but neither are the saints God or the Virgin a Goddess. She is the Theotokos not the mother of God. If she were the mother of God then surely Jesus Christ would have referred to her as his mother and if she were the mother of God then Jesus Christ would have said there is no one that is good except my father and mother. The Theotokos is our mother in God not Jesus's mother. That's why at the cross Jesus trusted John to look after her.

Jesus is true, he really died on the cross, ask the culprits who invades the skies and changed religion from the time of ancient mesopotamia. Jesus saved us from them.

He said the same thing 15 times. Christ is risen. He rose to show His power over death and hell. He gives us the same thing but not by our power but by His. There is no mystery in this since this is what the Bible tells us. The Orthodox and the RC are always talking about secrets and mysteries but God does not keep anything from us. We have His Word the Bible that we can understand what God has done for us. The only mystery I know of is the date of Christ's return.
@OrthodoxWisdom

When we speak of mystery we usually mean something that we grasp in part, but because it’s something of God, Whose ways are above our ways and Whose thoughts are above our thoughts, there is at the same time a sense in which we don’t understand it. It’s not a mystery that we solve like Sherlock Holmes, it’s a mystery that we enter in and experience by the grace of God. If someone does not sense that their experience of Christ and their supra-rational knowledge is still in many ways a mystery then maybe their experience of Christ is not truly Christ, or at least not the purifying, illuminating, and defying energies of Christ that are only the Mysteries (or Sacraments) of the Orthodox Church. Would someone who believes that the only mystery is the date of Christ’s return write, as St. Paul wrote, “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen” (Romans 11:33-36). Or would he say, “For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away” (1 Cor 13:9-10)? Christ is the greatest Mystery, and His Body, the Church, is His presence on earth where we don’t merely understand and know Christ with our mind, but we humbly and noetically enter into His Life through the Mysteries (i.e. Sacraments) He has given us for the purification of our souls “Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ” (Eph 4:13).

@@OrthodoxWisdom God lets us know in part but when we are ready we will know the all. We are to be guided by the Holy Spirit. We do not need Mary or any saints' help. I do not need a priest or any church father's help. He the Spirit will help me. Sacraments are not knowledge nor do they give knowledge. They are things we have to worship Jesus and the Father. No bread (wafer) or cup of wine will give anyone any knowledge about God or the scriptures. They represent His death on the cross and that is all they do. Romans 11:33-36 is a doxology by Paul. It says what any Christian should know. We will never know everything about God or His thoughts. That includes your mystics. I have not ever seen or read one thing that was not in the Bible. They like to talk in circles and repeat themselves to make themselves sound like they know a lot but everything is in the Bible. At least anything they have to say. 1 Cor 13:9-10 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. The completeness is when He comes back. We can understand the Bible because the Holy Spirit can help us discern them. Eph 4:13 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. I do not need your mystics or a priest to help me learn about Jesus and God. This verse proves that since it was made for those that follow Jesus.

@@bcalvert321 No. You share delusion. There are many people who say the same thing that you do, 'Im only here to share the truth, nothing more. I am teaching, not listening!' who would disagree with things you say and with whom you'd disagree. So you should see that this whole approach you have is a rotten tree as it produces rotten fruit. What's the rotten fruit? Arrogance and division, since as I mentioned, there are many people like you who have the same approach of 'I am only here to share the truth' and yet there are many and different contradictions between what you guys believe.
