I am a former trainer. The only thing that I seen that your trainer didn’t tell you to do first of all when you hooked to a trailer you tug on the trailer don’t just look up under the trailer at the jaws and say it’s OK. Secondly, when you’re backing up, always put your four-way flashers on no matter if you’re bob tailing, or if you have a trailer one other thing you need to buy a tire thumper you just cannot look at tires and tell they’re not flat or not you have to thump the tires every time with the tires thumper other than it did you both did a great job Just remember to do this and Remember dispatcher or not your friends all they care about is getting that load off the board in front of them so don’t try to be friends with any dispatcher. I told you earlier that I was a former trainer I have more than 55 years experience of driving and over 4 million miles. Good luck to both of y’all hope to se👀see on the road

It is fun to see people entering the trucking field… Ive been doing it for 32 years so far, it has changed a LOT, but yet, you still drive, move freight. Biggest thing I can say is dont rage quit, dont do things impulsively, that includes while driving. Let everyone else be the idiot assholes who end up being featured on youtube bad drivers. Courtesy goes a long way, particularly with the veteran drivers. We do notice those who are safe, not blocking fuel islands, not being aggressive in driving. Dont rely on your truck nannies to get you out of situations, YOU are the last line, and as long as you are smart out here you will be fine. Also, no question is ever a dumb one… just my 2 cents!

Drove otr for around 5yrs. And drove for Schneider part of it, bit of advice get a pilot card and save up on it. I was able to buy a cooler for 80$ and a cb with the money I saved up on there. It's free money, you don't pay for the fuel, doesn't seem like much but if you don't spend it, it can add up. Good luck otr, and be safe, driver.

Thank you Joe! Getting my own truck and going owner operator is definitely the goal. Do you recommend leasing your truck to a company or starting your own authority when starting out?
@joelopez2348
@joelopez2348 2 жыл бұрын
@@TikiTheTruckerNEVER EVER TRY A LEASE PURCHASE WITH A MEGA CARRIER, It doesn’t matter what mega carrier your with or how good you think the company is, it’s a scam‼️ but for being an owner operator I would say for the first year or two you should find a good company to lease your truck under for 1-2 years and then start your own authority, but if you watch “justtruckin” on KZfaq he started his authority and bought himself a truck straight out of CDL school without even working for a company. Basically it’s all about if you believe you can do it or not, last thing is no matter how much you hate trucking at times being a company driving DO NOT QUITE, when your owner operator you’ll have all the freedom in the world do whatever you want! I wish you good luck on your trucking career brother✊

Enjoyed watching your video. First time seeing you. I started out at Schneider in dry van back in 2017 in Dallas and drove OTR for two years mostly up in the northeast region and I-75/I-95 corridors. Moved over to liquid bulk in 2019 then became a TE until I left them in 2021. I'm now driving for a local ISO/Intermodal company in New Orleans. Home nightly and off weekends. Your video brought back good memories of my two weeks with my TE and all the great valuable lessons I learned. I see you have another video so I'll check that out as well. Hope you stick with it. Safety first and safe travels out there.

So don't tape yourself driving the truck or Schneider my terminate you. There are other videos on KZfaq by Schneider drivers that can confirm what I'm saying. Good luck!

Damn, I should have waited fifteen years or so before trying the trucking thing. When I was with a trainer around 2004, we seemed to be driving for 16 hours a day, and slept on the truck. Training was also like six weeks......all on the truck. No hotel rooms during the training. Oh yeah, and there was a lot of shifting (grinding) of gears. Automatics were very few. I never seen one. Eventually I quit because it was just way too long of a time to spend with another person for so long in a small cab. But.........I got to see about 46 of the 50 states, so there is that.

It looks like your trainer was doing everything for you (like fueling and pre-trip). Did he have you do things yourself and guide you through the processes? I feel like the hallmark of a good trainer is guiding you through the job with ample commentary while you do the hands-on work so you get a really good feel for what things will be like on your own.

I retired from SNI in 2016 after 21 years and just short of 3 million safe miles. Learn the basics and regulation compliance from SNI. After about 2 years you will be ready to move on if you've maintained a safe driving record. Trouble with SNI is they will treat you like a rookie despite your age or experience. Believe me the grass is greener across the fence.

Manager told me to wait while he called the receiver, then called me and told me a lady named Susan said they would take the load. When I tried again and told them that Susan said to let me into the docks they responded with Susan hadn’t worked there in the last 3 months. Management are lying S O B s

Another great learning lesson for your 2nd mile. Good luck k brother. I had a little over 1 million miles before switching careers. I do stay up on the times as I am about to retire again. I have been thinking about coming back to driving but not sure. Don't want anything FULL Time. I am 51 and have been working some form of employment since age 7. I think I am done with full time. Stay safe out there and just know it's going to take you 2 to 5 years to understand the job and the many opportunities out there. One word of advice, Don't get talked into an owner operator think with any company. Stay a company driver and save your money. If you ever want to own you own trucking company, get your own authority and buy your own Truck / Trailer and do it yourself. You will make more in the long run. Good Luck

Hey bro, how you feel about being only one week with a trainer. Most companies do 3 to 4 weeks over the road, and Schnider being the few that does 1 week over the road. I personally feel 1 week on the road is not enough when you are new.
@TikiTheTrucker
@TikiTheTrucker 2 жыл бұрын
I personally feel like they could do more than one week with a trainer. I definitely learned a lot being out within that one week, however taking that information out with me on my own has become a game of "remembering" rather than "repetition". Here's the thing though, if you don't feel comfortable after 1 week of training, you definitely have the ability to let your driver leader and trainer know that you definitely need more time training, and they will assign you another week of training. Christian, the girl I was training with, decided that she needed more training time and she requested to go out with another trainer. So Schneider is sending her out with another trainer. I hope this helps bro! Thanks for watching 🤘🏼

I'm an older lady, who has thought about getting a CDL for the last 2 yrs. I'm single with no kids. I wouldn't want to do this full time ( 60-70+hrs. week). I want to have some semblance of a life. Honestly, I'd be scared driving on mountain or steep roads. Especially on ice/snow. I moved to a small town recently where some of the roads are extremely steep and it scares the bejeezus out of me. I work well by myself and really enjoy driving and I am a safe driver. I can't afford to waste the nearly $5,000 to get a CDL so can I ask some of the older drivers out there if they think it's worth it to get a CDL if you only want to drive part time. Also, please tell me how you go to the bathroom in your truck if you really need to. I have no problem asking because I want/need to know. I'm not a real girly girl, but I do like to keep clean and fresh. Thanks everyone.

Hey Carol - I don't have info for you since I am just getting into trucking. I'm 57 and have had a Class B CDL for about 20 years. Just decided this spring to take the plunge into class A. The way I look at it is I'm going to give a one year commitment to a local trucking company with an excellent reputation. If I absolutely hate the distance hauls that will end my commitment. If I love it, I'll continue on. If I end it, I can go to local hauling. So for me I look at it as a great experience. As for bathrooms, I live with a composting toilet now and have for the last four years so I have no problem carrying a small one in my truck.

Ooooo buddy as somebody that used to work in Loss Prevention at a Hotel/Resort I can tell you that those kids have just cost those parents and the hotel A LOT of money and have a permanent mark on their stay now. If they ever visit that same "brand" of hotel everybody is going to see that note attached and they'll more than likely be kicked out and banned from all locations in the future if there's ANY sort of trouble or complaint about them again no matter how small.

Well I want to start the same Schneider is a great company to learn with for sure I was with them for my first year except for I was local. Also kind of a mistake but there’s a story behind that. Anyways like the other driver commented don’t do anything impulsive that’s what I did I left Snyder to work for dump truck company. I made decent money but the real money is in trucking. So I am going to be going back with Schneider now I have to get a crash course in a we can training again while I’m also saving up for my authority but baby steps your video was amazing just be safe always remember keep a good distance between you and other cars you’re gonna do great
