This song is about the homeless, which is something Gilmour really cares about. He sold one of his homes for almost 4 million and gave it all to a homeless charity.

This song has an important message and features one of my favorite David Gilmour guitar solos. In my opinion, this live version is much better than the studio version. The extended guitar solo at the end is thrilling to listen to (as are the background singers).

The GREATEST PINK FLOYD MASTERPIECE after Roger Waters left the band ..!! I was so blessed to be at Earls Court in London in 1994 (The Pulse Tour) and the night I was there I got to see Floyd play this ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE SONG LIVE..!! Last track of Set 1 before the Half-Time Interval..!! They played the song for over 10mins with Gilmour's solo at the end of the track lasting over 6/7mins long 🫶 it brought tears to my eyes as I was praying that they would play "On The Turning Away ", because for the 10 nights at Earls Court they hadn't played it once..!! And it is my absolute FAVOURITE PINK FLOYD SONG since Roger Waters had left the band in 1985..!! Gilmour's guitar solo can best be described as a song without lyrics but his Solo sounds and plays with all the emotions and spine-chingingling of something more powerful than singing lyrics..!! If anyone can name a fellow artist who can make a Guitar SPEAK just through strumming the guitar 😂and play it like it's talking to you with INCREDIBLE POWERFUL EMOTIONS.!! QUITE SIMPLY NOBODY CAN MIMIC GILMOUR'S GUITAR PLAYING..!! SIMPLY SAID..!! AN ABSOLUTE GENUI3

Yes, peaceful at first; then the lyrics deliver the "Five Point Palm Exploding Conscience Punch." Floyd was not just a psychedelic band; it packed powerful messages to all societies in its songs and entire albums. "No more turning away from the weak and the weary. ... Is it only a dream that there'll be no more turning away?" Pretty much a commentary on our world's current situation.

Pink Floyd is so vast in style . . . that it is difficult to pin any one of their songs for review. Some to look at . . . Wish You Were Here . . . The Great Gig in the Sky . . . One of These Days . . . Comfortably Numb . . . Learning to Fly . . . ALL OF THESE SHOULD BE REVIEWED IN THEIR LIVE VERSIONS. I have had the privilege to see these guys live . . . 5 times from 1974 to 1979

Filmed at Nassau Coliseum, Long Island NY, 1988....they played 5 nights so the concert had songs from all 5 nights, me, after 15 years of wanting to see them but never had, this was my one chance so I tore ass to make sure I got tickets and I did, about 15 feet of center right if you're looking from the floor, 22nd row...gotta say awesome and that round screen is massive, nobody missed Roger Waters that night.

This live album came out in 1988, when I was 14. It was my gateway into Pink Floyd, in a journey that keeps on going to this very day. In the Pulse tour, I was there, a grown man in college, in a sea of faces, almost crying my eyes out during this and other timeless classics. Keep your journey going young one, It will be worth it.

They hypnotized everybody, that's why when you see a gigantic audience watching a Pink Floyd concert in the middle of the song very few people are actually moving! Go back to the 1994 Pulse concert and watch them perform "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" which is what they open the concert with!! Or try an incredible song called "High Hopes", another beyond beautiful song with David playing the lap steel guitar for his solo!!!! Or a synthesizer song replicating a nightmare at an airport watch them play the song from Dark Side of the Moon "On the Run" during their 94 Pulse concert to watch a full-size airplane crash into the stage and explode!!!!!

Listen to it again and read the lyrics along with the song. On the turning away From the pale and downtrodden And the words they say Which we won't understand Don't accept that what's happening Is just a case of others' suffering Or you'll find that you're joining in The turning away It's a sin that somehow Light is changing to shadow And casting its shroud Over all we have known Unaware how the ranks have grown Driven on by a heart of stone We could find that we're all alone In the dream of the proud On the wings of the night As the daytime is stirring Where the speechless unite in a silent accord Using words, you will find, are strange Mesmerised as they light the flame Feel the new wind of change On the wings of the night No more turning away From the weak and the weary No more turning away From the coldness inside Just a world that we all must share It's not enough just to stand and stare Is it only a dream that there'll be No more turning away?

Remarkable performance! I was fortunate to see them play this live earlier on this tour and it was an incredible experience to be there live. Hey, I don’t know how you take requests for new bands but I have a current band that will blow your mind and entertain you immensely. Have you heard of Band-Maid? Don’t let the outfits fool you, they are top-flight musicians and I think you love them. Try their songs - “Domination” - official live video - “Freedom” - official live video - “Influencer” - official MV If these don’t peak your interest, I’ll be surprised. Then, like bands like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Rush and Yes, they have a catalog of 100+ great songs to enjoy. Take care and rock on 🤘🏼

to each their own. Imagining someone who listens to the music but doesn't listen to the words as much is like going to a play and liking the music and props more than the dialogue. At least this time he didn't say anything about what parts of the song he preferred.

I like tthe Delicate Sound of Thunder concert video nearly as much as Pulse. As for this song I prefer this one because you can a couple things David does as he plays. Especially at about 8:30 he does a small "tap" to fret a string with a finger on his pick hand. It is a small thing, but it just adds so much. As a guitar payer those things always catch my eye. Great reaction!!

Pink Floyd draws you in, and transports you to different places, places you have never been to. Some more obscure PF tracks you should listen to are "If", from Atom Heart Mother; "Free Four", "Wot's, uh, the Deal", and "Obscured by Clouds", all from Obscured by Clouds (the title track is an instrumental); the title track of the album Wish You Were Here (not obscure, and no, it's not about Syd Barrett, though David Gilmour has said he can't perform the song without thinking about Syd - the song is actually about the inability to grasp or deal with reality); "The Great Gig in the Sky", and "Brain Damage/Eclipse" (together, look for the video that has both, they belong together), which are both from Dark Side of the Moon (one of the greatest conceptual albums of all time). "Great Gig" is an absolute must listen, try to find the original studio version, with Claire Tory, other artists have done the song justice, but Claire is the OG... Fun Fact, DSotM spent more time on Billboard's Top 200 Album chart than any other record in history. It's recorded 966 weeks on the Top 200 since 1973... second place is Bob Marley, "Legend" with 765 weeks...
