Two notes: The lugs are 22mm on the Seiko 5 and when I was calculating the time in Japan, I initially said said 8am (which was correct), I accidentally later set to 9am (incorrect). I should've read from where the GMT hand was pointed and not what was at 12 o'clock, great example for why you shouldn't try to read off of the bezel for primary timekeeping and stick to just using for calculations, unless you're in the resting position w/12 and 24 hrs aligned.

James Harrison, an inventor had his workshop in Greenwich, and after winning the prize for creating a chronometer that could keep time at sea, the prime meridian was fixed to to Greenwich, giving use GMT. This is chronicled in a great book titled Longitude: The True Story of a Lone Genius Who Solved the Greatest Scientific Problem of His Time.

Excellent video ! Though GMT wasn't set to Big Ben. Greenwich Nean Time (GMT) is the local time at the Greenwich Royal Observatory measured from 12 midnight. It is in London though so you're close and Big Ben is indeed very accurate.,😊 Thanks for the useful information !

Zulu time as you know is UTC and is used by various militaries (and the shipping industry) around the world and they use zulu always. Even if you are in Los Angeles say and it is 2am local, zulu is 1000hrs. This method means whoever you are talking to around the world there can never be any confusion with local time and daylight saving adjustments. Imagine arranging a USAF airdrop from a European airfield to Australian soldiers on the ground in the middle East - could get confusing, but not if everyone sticks to zulu time. Military time zones are defined in the ACP 121(I) standard, which is used by the armed forces for Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the United States, and many other nations. The names are identical to the NATO phonetic alphabet. Going east from the prime meridian at Greenwich, letters "Alfa" to "Mike" (skipping "J") represent the 12 time zones with positive UTC offsets until reaching the international Date Line. Going west from Greenwich, letters "November" to "Yankee" represent zones with negative offsets. The letters are typically used in conjunction with military time. For example, 6:00 a.m. in zone UTC−5 is written "0600R" and spoken "zero six hundred Romeo" The letter "Z" ("Zulu") indicates Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). Hello Sir! I have the same Seiko GMT. When adjusting the GMT hour hand, it acts in the same jumpy and jerky way as in your video. However, it used to run smoothly while adjusting. Could it be a broken part or is it fine? It's still under warranty. The watch is brand new

You don't really need the numbered rehaut to track a third time one. You only need to remember that 2400 is at the 12 hour marker and every marker around the dial jumps 2 hours. The only ones that can't track 3 time zones are ones where the GMT is not adjustable like my 1675. On the friction bezel - 24 hour click bezels are common. What the friction bezel gets you is the ability to track a time zone with a 1/2 hour adjustment. Very common in Asia.

The map you have is wrong. It shows most of western europe, France, Spain, Germany, Italy etc being in UTC 0 or GMT 0 when in fact they are all UTC+1. Only Portugal in Western europe is the same as UTC 0 or GMT 0.
