On this special episode we preview the upcoming Trekker 39 release from Raven watches. Steve and the Raven brand have really been building some momentum as of late and I think excellent litter divers are going to continue that trend. While more mainstream brands will release vintage inspired divers that forgo some of the more modern niceties as not to compete with some other more high-end modern offerings, Raven goes the other direction and gives us all something that packs a huge punch, both in terms of spec/materials and design/execution. Even in these slightly rougher prototype forms, it's tough not to understand the appeal of what's to come. Let me know what you all think in the comments below, thanks guys!

This is an awesome new spin on the Trekker. I bought my brother the 40mm, which is perfect for his larger wrist. I think I will be picking one of these up for my 6.75" wrist. Met Steve at WindUp, he's a very nice guy. I'm happy to see him continuing to put out great stuff.

Hey mr bros you convinced me of getting the current pre order that raven is having (blue version). I know a lot of people say its generic, movement and blah blah blah but when you browse and own micros like i do all the time you can appreciate when a watch is well done. The finishing and just glow of this thing in video outdoes most if not all micros out there.... i bet it looks even better in person. However I only considered it in pre order price cus i find it to be a good deal. A miyota movement has nothing to envy on say a 2824 and its just as reliable and accurate imo, people get too hung up on the movement.

Love the Tudor like indices and if I could change one thing it would definitely be the crown tube that sticks out way too much and looks like ira unscrewed. Really don’t like that, otherwise it’s nice and although I’d prefer a 2824 or sellita at this price I feel they really did a great job with the little details. Edit: saw the video. Nice it’s getting fixed!

Great looking piece. IMHO the crown looks great. 39mm is on the small side for me though especially for a diver. 42mm would be perfect.

Another great vid, and I've been "window shopping" the trekker for a bit now and appreciate seeing a great review of it. I'm not down on Miyota because an ETA 2824 costs about $120 off the shelf and the Miyota 9015/9039 etc runs $75-$90 per. So, in the grand scheme it's a bit of splitting hairs imo. Raven doesn't spend millions of $$$ on marketing and that's one of the biggest differences in price to the big boys. It's on my list to buy but I am busy saving to buy movements for custom builds. I need a fast-forward button.-

these watches are so good. I think the glossy sapphire bezel is great and the steel option is just great. 20mm - 16mm is perfect tapering for a bracelet. Raven is one of the best micros out there, quality and value is fantastic.

For that price I expect at least a Swiss movement.

What's wrong with the Miyota? The 2824-2 is a very standard movement with only 38 hour power reserve. Yes, it's easily serviceable but so is a Miyota 9-series and it's cheaper. I could understand the critique if it was a NH35, not because of the quality, but because of its purchase price pr unit. It doesn't belong in a $700. The Miyota though is perfectly fine. However, we can agree that $700 for a microbrand isn't exactly cheap. Is a Black Bay 58 5-6x better than the Raven? Probably not, but it has demand, heritage, in-house movement and it's a luxury watch. The Raven on the other hand... is "just" a good looking watch that costs $700. I'm not ready to shell out that kind of money for a microbrand. It's the same with NTH.

My last 2824 watch was running around $500 which really makes this a hard buy. Love the size and style but can't justify where that extra $200.

@@parkpy Really? How about you do some research. i.e. Borealis, Zelos, Heslon, Helm, Steinhart, and many more. All of which i currently have. Its not like it has top grade decorated swiss mvmnt, or german steel, or zaratsu polishing, or added complications. No difference aside from design, compared to other micros.
@hulkingmass
@hulkingmass 3 жыл бұрын
@@elboogy4784 steinhart is an homage brand, and is therefore in a different category. The other brands I agree offer objectively higher sterile value prop. But design matters, and I find this watch to be more appealing than those. And this isn't chance, its design work. I mean you could argue that a 39mm case alone adds value. It's a rare size. I do like the helson shark diver though. But it just feels way less refined or intentional compared to this piece. Feels like a sub/skx mutant. And it's not much cheaper. I dont own a raven. Just my opinion and I respect yours.

If these were actually available on the second hand market. They would probably settle around 475-500. Picked up the Helson Shark diver with applied indicies for 475. It is easily the nicest watch for the money. Maybe this trekker could give it a run for its money. But I aint paying 700 retail for it. If it had an eta maybe.

Great looking watches. Random question: why do you overlap your audio when cutting between shots? Really weird.
@AverageBros
@AverageBros 4 жыл бұрын
My current format is comprised of 4 different shots, the off the cuff format often leaves room for these videos to run pretty long, in comparison to the typical 5-10min review you see on KZfaq. So I try and trim the shots together as tight as possible, which does, at times end up with some audio overlapping. Sorry if it's off putting, pretty small operation here, I record all of these once then Wife and Kids are asleep and try to keep editing to a minimum. As the channel grows, I do plan to continue to refine and expand the format though, so hopefully it might improve your viewing experience in the future.

@@Shane756 I don't think it's a question of being snobbish, but it's well known that the unidirectional rotor on the myotas are noisy, as they spin like crazy in the off direction. Now to be fair, I don't personally have any experience with these movements; I'm speaking anecdotally. So, it may be overblown, but I'd be hesitant to purchase a watch with this movement based solely on that part of it's reputation. I see it compared a lot to the ETA 2824, et al, but I know that movement doesn't have this issue.

I own the Blue Nacken and the brushed ETA Trekker 40, and honestly prefer the Raven, it just feels more rugged and unique.
@Emaratilfy
@Emaratilfy 4 жыл бұрын
I know I'm nitpicking here, but I rather have brushed sides and a polished chamfered edge at the top. I don't really understand the aesthetic choice of making the bottom half chamfered and polished. Also, at $700 it is in stiff competition with established brands. When the hype around the Seiko SBDC101 dies and it's no longer a Japan-only watch, I reckon it will be close to $900-1000 and therefore close to the Raven MSRP.

If you want to buy just a name, seiko is a better choice. But if u want to buy a better quality watch, u'll definitely choose a raven or any other microbrand watch at this price point, and you will not be frustrated cause u spent that amount of money on a watch that might come with a missaligned bezel, a shitty bracelet (for the price u pay), an ordinary movement (raven's myiota 9series is still ordinary, but nicer, thinner, and beats faster than 6r35 from sbdc101).
