The song "Can't Help Falling in Love With You", which he sang at the closing of this concert, is almost the last proud roar of a wounded lion. It was definitely a very passionate and powerful signing.

These pictures are sad to look at but also very special because they are from his last performance. His fans all over this world agree 💯 with your statement that he was the greatest talent and such a sweet person. Thank you for always keeping his memory alive for future generations. He may have thought no one would remember him but we know different. We miss you Elvis and will not let you be forgotten. Thank you for giving so much of yourself to us.❤

So thankful I got to witness the beginning of this amazing man's life. I was on the way home when the news of his death came on the car radio and it shocked me to the core. I'd seen him perform in Austin on March 28th, he looked good, sounded fantastic. He'll be remembered as long as there's music. 💔👑⚡

I saw Elvis at the Chicago Stadium In May of 1977.His voice was so strong you could feel the floor vibrate during one song ,I couldn't believe it!He had them turn on the house lights to see the fans and me and my girlfriends were jumping up and down and waving and yelling Elvis!I don't know if he saw us we're lucky we didn't fall over the railings!I am so grateful I finally got to see Elvis but sad because i didn't know that would be my last chance to see him again.😢❤😢

Even with everything he endured, only 42 years old, the people that used him like Priscilla, Col Parker, others, the bad decisions of his manager, etc, He Accomplished so much, did so many first, changed the culture and music forever, He will never be forgotten. I only wish he had told his story, his autobiography. His truth. Not to be told by others and certainly not the ExWife (only married maybe 5 years). Too one sided. Too bad someone would do a real documentary on him, early life, how he changed the culture and broke race barriers, helped the bkack community, his vocal ability ( so many genres, rock, country, r&b, gospel, rockabilly, ballads and contemporary music), fashion on and off stage, dance moves, charisma and stage presence. His kindness and generosity, his military service. His real hereditary illnesses. How he influenced all who came after him. So much more of this man than his addiction, and weight.

True, tired beyond words of every movie or documentary that has to have the seal of approval from Priscilla Presley, or for that matter, «sanctioned» people like Jerry Schilling. If addiction and weight gain is what you have «taken» from the the whole Elvis experience, then I feel sorry for you. If so, you’ve really missed out on a great experience. It is much easier to be cynical about something, because then you don’t have to feel obliged to feel anything. People like Elvis should have lived to be 1000years, we need people who bring joy to others.

David Stanley on Current Affair said he was making out with Priscilla in his car after she asked him out for drinks.on the night of Elvis funeral. She was the aggressor. David said she was already planning on selling film rights. One maid also said she felt bad Priscilla was crying at the funeral but saw that she was laughing on her way upstairs to Elvis bedroom. I forget who of the MM said that Priscilla immediately took the jewelry box & anything of real value, cash ect... that she felt at that time. Its on Current Affair, David Stanley. David said he also found syringes on the floor of the bathroom & three packages of empty pill envelopes.

If Indianapolis city officials simply renovated the arena instead of tearing it down, thousands of fans would be making an annual pilgrimage to watch the '77 CBS Special on a big screen in that very arena and local businesses would be making mint. Mindless.

But that wouldn't make sense. None of the CBS program was taped in Indianapolis. It was made from concerts the week before in Nebraska and South Dakota. The only recording of his final concert in Indianapolis is some audience audio and a couple of 8mm film clips also taken from the audience. It wasn't professionally recorded, unfortunately.

I remember while watching the CBS special thinking how tired and worn he looked. Five years earlier, seeing him in person (Nov '72), I saw him near his peak physical shape as he was two months away from the Aloha from Hawaii Satellite Special. From my view, the differences of his performances from these two different 70s concerts are best described as this: 1972 I saw a man working hard to deliver his best, and boy did he deliver. 1977 I saw a man worked over, delivering the best he could possibly give. Elvis always gave the best that he could.

I don't know how it was elsewhere in the world, but apart from showing this concert in 1977 after Elvis died they never repeated showing it in Europe especially around August 16. And I still have the dubbel album that I bought then with a fit Elvis on the cover. Not with the sun dial suit but a white jumpsuit with a black embroidered eagle I believe (just went to look, not seeing the head but large wings) And no pictures of Elvis during that concert but on the inside covers 2 large pictures of Elvis wearing a white jumpsuit with a gem studded eagle in different colors. Similar to the one of "Aloha" and yet different. Never saw him perform with this suit. The back cover mentioning all the songs has an Elvis in a blue jumpsuit with silver trimmings. Now record number 1 was from the aired show with the comments in between and starting off with the fans praises of Elvis. Just like when it was shown on tv at that time to cover up Elvis's slurs and somewhat incoherent speech in between the songs. You can see the full concert now on KZfaq without the fans comments but because of this and Elvis not looking his best,I only got to see that concert again a few years ago on KZfaq.

Um one of those sites had a article it says about Elvis did his last performance in Indianapolis dome stadium and I was shock as I was reading the article stateing "says ,Elvis last performance they says that"Elvis wasn't much in good mood and it says ,Elvis was a bit out of date coming towards the 1980's !It's either the people in the area said it or other people from other areas said it . The article says Elvis was becoming out of date . I wonder any body came across a article somewhere. Yet that written "Elvis was out of date . The point you ate making about us not knowing it was going to be his last concert is correct. We wre there with the UK Fan Club and when I got home, I said to my girlfriend that we should immediately send our deposits for 1978 - he was that good. There's no doubt that with us only seeing the two shows- Cincinnati and Indianapolis, we didn't have much to compare with but by the time we went in June, I had already seen John Herman's film of the Pittsburgh show at a Gerry McLafferty film so in Glasgow so I was not naive. Bridge was great and I did not expect I Can't Stop Loving You but the pandemonium in front of the stage with seats collapsing and people being crushed by fans trying to get to Elvis is vivid.

@@ElvisistheMan_ I think Elvis was really ashamed to face the public after the book came out. He was super proud and I think facing 20000 people wondering “what happened” was too much for him and pouring himself into that last Indy show was important. I also think he agreed to the TV special because he wanted to leave it as a last hurrah. I’ve never thought his death was accidental. We’ll never know.

An Objective view of the last show: Before I knew anything about Elvis, I recall seeing the 1977 CBS TV Special (his last show) as a teenager. I barely noticed he was ill. I just thought he was on the heavy side, but not fat. I thought he looked cool with that hair & sideburns, and I immediately grew mine. I loved this show, so much, that mom bought me the soundtrack from Xmas of 1977 and I played it several hundred times. Not knowing much of him, I immediately liked his voice: strong & deep. I think after CBS editing out of some of his speech slurs during the monologues, this is a good show. My point in writing this is, I wasn't comparing Elvis against his former self (1970 Thats The Way It Is; nor 1960s movie Elvis; nor 1950s bursting on the scene. Rather, I was just a newcomer without any real context and thought he was a solid performer. This, coming from a 14 year old who liked Pop Music of the time, as well as some Heavy Metal. I switched course in 1977 after this show.

I was reviewing the Indy clips again to today and see different versions emphasize different (fan-made/ audience-filmed clips. Some are better than others. He looks pretty cool on one of them coming out for CC Rider. (The other is too far away). He’s more relaxed and noticeably slimmer even in one week since the CBS-taped shows . He’s walking more naturally and moving with more confidence &!ease & looks less bloated facially. I wouldn’t overstate his voice (still some of the ‘77 weaknesses) but he is mostly singing better (as I recall) & does a one or two interesting songs not heard in the CBS show like “Bridge..” “Hurt “ does have extra “over-drive” at the end. I remember the import CD (also on YT) & other versions had a rare and moving final spoken word segment where he does an extended thanks to his fans, the band etc… & even a poignant wish to come back again. I didn’t see it in the video clips but it’s part of the import’s audio. His last song” Can’t Help..” is moving knowing it’s the last version & last performance of any song publicly. He looks energized and even playfully mocks his own sweating when his arms-are up. (More than once.) A nice companion piece on KZfaq is the local Indianapolis TV news report showing and interviewing fans lining up to buy tickets back in the winter or early spring. It’s only been released in recent years & adds some perspective and again is moving in showing the fan excitement was alive and well in 1977.
