On Top of Vancouver Island | Climbing Mount Albert Edward | Hiking Vancouver Island, BC, Canada
Welcome back! This is the account of a 4 day, 3 night hike into Strathcona Park's Mount Albert Edward, located on Vancouver Island, in British Columbia, in Canada. I did this hike with my old neighbour and his family, who I grew up with on Vancouver Island. This trip was a blast.
The mountain itself was monumental, but some of the highlights were definitely the fishing as well. Armed with a casting rod with spinners and a fly rod, my and Liam were able to catch 5 good sized fish, and kept 4 of them to cook up and eat. They were mostly Rainbow Trout, but it's possible that we caught one Cutthroat trout. These lakes are stocked, but please fish responsibly when you're up there.
We started the hike from Mount Washington, a famous ski resort near Courtney, which is north of Parksville and Nanaimo and south of Comox. Mount Albert Edward is at the top of the Forbidden Plateau; to get up there we had to pass many lakes such as Lake Helen Mackenzie,
Battleship Lake, Kwai Lake, and Circlet Lake.
We camped on Circlet Lake for the first two nights, and on the third night we went to down to Kwai Lake and camped and did some fishing there. On the third day, we also went to Cruickshank Canyon, passing by Mariwood Lake and Lake Beautiful. The views were foggy and visibility was low but we were able to see the new logging projects that had been started in the valley below.
On the summit, we met a family who was mourning the loss of their son, who died in a helicopter crash near Greece: Captain Kevin Hagen. Our condolences go out to their family. He will be remembered.
I hope you enjoyed this!

I hope you enjoyed and watched the full video of On Top of Vancouver Island | Climbing Mount Albert Edward | Hiking Vancouver Island, Canada.
The hike was filmed using a GoPro Hero 8 and a Canon 60D. The lenses on the latter were
Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6, and the Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM Lens. I am happy with how the time lapse photography and the photograph of the hike in general turned out.
Mount Albert Edward is the sixth-highest peak on Vancouver Island and one of the most easily accessible. Located in Strathcona Provincial Park, the mountain is a popular destination both in summer for hikers and in winter for skiers and snowshoers.
Elevation: 2,093 m (6,867 ft) Prominence: 1,203 m (3,947 ft)
Strathcona Provincial Park is the oldest provincial park in British Columbia, Canada, and the largest on Vancouver Island. Founded in 1911, the park was named for Donald Alexander Smith, 1st Baron Strathcona, and Mount Royal, a wealthy philanthropist and railway pioneer. It lies within the Strathcona Regional District. The Clayoquot Sound Biosphere Reserve, established in 2000, includes three watersheds in the western area of the park.

Lol I ran out of water back there and kept staring at the lakes going is this worth getting sick for 😆 It never hurts to have lots of food and water. I went way past there and discovered tons of nice campgrounds. I am definitely going back there.

Great footage bud, found ya on Reddit in the Nanaimo thread. I grew up in Port Alberni but moved to the NorthWest Territories and I miss this kind of stuff that you're doing every day. Keep it up, life is beautiful and it's short, nice to see you taking advantage of it.
