Everyone should know the real Sharon Tate story before they watch this movie to appreciate the alternate reality more.

The “hippies” at the Spahn movie ranch were The Manson Family. Tex, Sadie were two of the killers Manson sent out. Many books about it all. Tarantino tells a fairytale about what he wishes would have happened

Hollywood movies are basically about happy endings. In reality, Hollywood wasn't. The Spahn Movie Ranch hippies actually butchered a heavily pregnant Sharon Tate, Jay Sebring and two others in Polanski's rented home on Cielo Drive. (Also, Tarantino includes a sly reference to 'Natalie' (Wood?) who's alleged to have been killed by her husband ...while bitching on a motor cruiser) So, Tarantino remakes the reality into 'Once upon a time...' where the horrific ending of the Manson family murders is transposed into a traditional happy Hollywood ending. For those of us old enough to remember the Manson family murders, it quite brings a tear.

I wish there was a handbook people could read before they watch this movie so that they'd get at least some of the many references that it's packed with, some of which are crucial to an even basic understanding of the story and its setting.

I’m not sure if either of you are going to get the real life events this movie is dealing with, but it’s basically a re-telling of the horrific events if things had turned out a different way.The Charles Manson Murders was a pretty terrifying time, in Hollywood. Look up the Manson Murders, all the characters Dalton meets at the end are real famous people that were murdered that night, and the worst being a nine months pregnant Sharon Tate. This was a way of giving that night a happy ending.

I heard that the ending surprised everyone in the theater! They even said It was so shocking!

Growing up in the heyday of Charles Manson and “The Family” a band of hippies living on an old movie ranch, I had to see this movie when it came out. Read Helter Skelter, watch documentaries on Charles Manson or watch the movie of the real events that transpired that evening. Sharon Tate was a beautiful actress who met with a horrific, tragic demise at the hands of “The Family”. Manson and the family scared me silly even during the trials, and when the major players were in prison.

The guy looking for Terry was *Charles Manson* who started a cult, the hippies were members and in real life that night they brutally murdered a pregnant *Sharon Tate* and her guests, which you clearly didn’t know anything about. This movie was a rewriting of history Tarantino style. Rick and Cliff are the protagonists but they’re just fictional characters inserted into real life events, an excuse to retell a story in order to change the horrible real outcome. When they all meet at the end it’s very emotional not because Rick is going to get more roles but because by that time in reality they were all dead. *PLEASE* don’t forget about *Arlington Road* starring *Jeff Bridges* and *Tim Robbins*

This was the Golden Age of Hollywood where a lot of the actors were World War 2 Veterans and many were heavy drinkers but they loved life. Clint Eastwood is one of the few left from this era. Brad and Leo did a great job.

The cast in this film is out of this world, both real and referenced. Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, and Leo everyone knows. You also have legends Al Pacino and Bruce Dern (father of Laura Dern). You have fictional recreations of Bruce Lee, Steve McQueen, director Sam Wanamaker (father of actress Zoe Wanamaker). You have Maya Hawke (Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke's daughter) playing Linda Kasabian (which you spotted to be fair). Pussycat (who hitches a ride with Cliff) is played Margaret Qualley, who is Andie MacDowell's daughter. And Austin Butler is Tex.

That movie Sharon Tate (margo robbie) went too that she was in is Wrecking Crew one of the Mat Helm movies with Dean Martin 1.The Silencers 1966 2.Murders Row 1966 3.The Ambushers 1967 4.The Wrecking Crew 1969... These are SPY spoof movies, also based on books.

'Jay Sebring' was Jim Morrison's hair dresser; weird connections. Styleized and molded the face of the 60's and both had bizzare tragic ends at... the end of the 60's (69 & 71).

Definitely one of my favorite Tarantino films. It’s one thing to go into a movie blind. But this is one you guys really should have done some research on. You both had no idea what it’s based on. An alternate reality like Inglorious Bastards was an alternative telling of historical events. I can’t believe you guys cut out so much of the movie in this reaction.

Love the reaction guys. I have this film on blu-ray and 4K HD. My favorite film of all time right now and I know alot of other fans of yall have already said but the main plot of this film has to do with Charles Manson and his female followers he took in, in reality, killed Sharon Tate but this film Quentin just tool the true story and switched it up, in memory of Sharon and her unborn child😇🙏, her not get killed and how most people wished it could have happened.

as a kid who grew up during the madness of this manson thing, i was sooo dreading the end of this movie that i went outside for a smoke before the final scene because i knew the horrible events of that night already. then my wife texted me that it wasn't what i was expecting so i went in to watch the end, and it was an ecstatic moment of catharsis to see these psycho butchers on the receiving end of the horrors. yes it isn't real (once upon a time...), but still it was a great if imaginary moment. like when they whacked hitler and the entire german command in his ww2 pic. not sure how "right" it is, but i relished every second of the violence at the end.

I had a friend who was supposed to be at Sharon Tate's house for dinner that night. He couldn't make it. I bet he wished things would have turned out Tarantino's way.

My fav Tarantino film. The film really needs you to know the history of Sharon Tate tbh. If you don't, the impact of the ending doesn't hit you imo. Having grown up when the event was still fresh in people's mind, hearing Sharon's voice over the intercom makes me cry every time.

spahn ranch ws really there.I had been there myself ....it was a desertrd movie set and the Manson Family toook it over.......before they killed Sharon and friends.....this movie is about what would have been IF the Manson hadnt killed everyone and they all l ived...you HAVE to know the history of all that before the movie makes sense...

You two should research what actually happened with Charles Manson and the Manson Family Murders. Then maybe rewatch this movie again, after you know the real story.

For me, this is Tarantino's most earnest and wholesome film, and consequently my favorite of his.

This is loosely based on what happened in Hollywood in august of 1969 at sharon tates house...tarentino just switched the outcome.....

I'm not as about this one as his others. I love the storytelling but I also expect Quentin to be on point there. My favorite part is the acting though. I can be compelled by watching a great act even the story doesn't hold up. Leo took the cake here of course. The message though? Hollywood has very strong feelings about the Manson killings. I get that. I lived, worked and hung out with these people. It hit their own. I grew up in the region where Dahmer and the following copycats pulled that nonsense and now that sort of thing impacts you for the rest of your life. I also am related to someone related to the case whom had passed down Manson's watercolors to my father thus am deeply aware of the details of everything that happened. Add as we can see they even added some Hollywood perspective on Bruce Lee where he wasn't quite as revered in their circles as he would be in fans or even my own. However as a viewer it is still hard to feel the potency of this otherwise dated tragedy to the point of say rooting for the malice lobbed on the OG perpetrators and their dopplegangers. I don't have that kind of spite harbored in my heart against those people despite agreeing what they did was wrong, utter lunacy really. And of course that is hardly an isolated incident anymore in America and more sadly mass murder has become a trend. Worse still one inspired by the media popularity of persons like Dahmer and Manson and the desire to obtain the same thing. Something I was thinking about recently when coming across a Psycho reaction video. But hence the title of the story and who this one was really for which would be Quentin's colleagues in the industry who were directly effected by those events. Though original of him to broach the subject at least. Again though the acting did more than make up for it but I can't say it leaves the profound impact on my person that films like Pulp Fiction did due being unable to relate to it. And I did not feel anything when Dahmer was shanked for that matter. I guess in my book harboring that level of animosity towards the abuser is akin to re-inflicting the wound for them as opposed to moving past them. But hats off to the cast regardless.

That's why you don't fuck with old Marines/soldiers too. They'll turn you into Hamburger Helper.

Like Inglorious Basterds , Tarantino gives us a happy ending , not the reality , the Manson "family" were opposite of hippies they were murderous nut jobs , they killed Sharon and her friends.

Fun fact both Bruce Lee and action Star Steve McQueen were both invited to Sharon Tates house that night in advance but advised they couldn't make it. It makes you wonder if IRL it would have turned out differently.

Gotta look up the real life story. It will make more sense

In real life Sharon Tate was murdered by the Manson cult. This movie of course takes things into the direction of "what should've happened", as catharsis for the tragedy. The whole title "once upon a time" ... refers to fairy tales and Hollywood endings.

In real life, Polanski is living outside the US in exile, fleeing a US arrest warrant for m0lesting a 14 yo girl. The French have been sheltering him for decades because they don't see a problem with what he is alleged to have done.

It seems to me you don't know about the real Charles Manson story. He and his hippy "family" assassinated the actress Sharon Tate (who was pregnant) wife of the legendary director Roman Polanski (by the way Marylin Manson is named after Charles) and other three persons that night.

This story was lost on them because they didn't know the backstory and how they redid history.

Your ignorance of the horrific real events of that night are sooooo frustrating! Read up on the Tate Murders, then rewatch from the begining and you will feel the slow impending doom that the moive is slowly heading toward, then the giant feeling of joy and relief when history is altered!

This movie centers around Tarantino's rewrite about the Charles Manson cult who murdered director Roman Polanski's wife Sharon Tate, an 8½ month pregnant actress and several of her friends one night in their Hollywood Hills home on Cielo Drive. In the movie it all turns out OK and it's the murderers who end up getting killed. But in real life, it was two nights of bloody, gruesome, tragic cult murders. Charles Manson has been a very notorious name in America for 55 years.
