999 Calls: Police reveal unbelievable time-wasters

Greater Manchester Police has released calls made to emergency service operators, asking for help with maggots and parking spaces. The shocking interactions between police staff and callers were released in order to highlight the sometimes ridiculous ways in which the 999 line was used. One woman called the emergency line because the council wouldn't come out to clear maggots from her bin and she was concerned this would cause friction with her neighbours.
Another man rang in because someone took what he perceived to be 'his' parking space.
GMP have made these available to stress the importance of only calling 999 in real emergencies, and not tying up operators with non-police problems. Report by Louise Hulland.

I once accidentally called 911 when I was dusting a telephone and hit the auto-dial key. Talk about embarrassing!

Never did get those pregnancy pills. Now the Missus and me have got a screaming crocodile-thing crawling across the ceiling and turning it's head 360, and you can see his eyes even when it's dark.

If I was the operator, I would just hang up. The moment it's obvious it is not serious then they should just hang up and stop wasting time.

@@supercoolg1234_is_autistic I know what you mean, and I understand that. But when it is obvious they are just stupid calls, I would just hang up. I'm quite good at reading people so I'm sure I would know if they were under duress or just calling because they stupid and wasting time when someone could really need the police's help. I have been in a similar situation where I needed the police, because a drunk man wanted to have sex with me and I had to ring the police because I didn't want his advances. I had to pretend I was calling a friend because he was right in front of me and if he knew I was calling the police on him, I would have been is serious danger, so yeah, I agree with you!

maryrife123 5 months ago Es78xx, not foreign since 999 is England's emergency system. America's 911 gets the same dumb calls :-( Nope! It's the UKs Emergency Services Number for the Police, Ambulance, Fire & Rescue and the Coastguard.

I call 999 by mistake I left the hospital stuck my phone in my pocket and boom I heard my phone ring took it out am like mm hang up wait wait don't brain they will call you back . Just told them am so sorry I have just left the hospital and my pocket rang 999 by mistake . He said it okay have a good day

There's a girl in the news today with an IQ of 162 and these people are helping pull the average back to 100. A lot of evolution went into creating the human being and its incredible that we have mastered so much and yet there are people like the callers in existence, If they were the majority we'd still be using flint hand-tools and be grunting.
