In this video, I go through easy hairstyles from the 1840s to 1940s using only one long braid. These are great for a daytime historical look or for adding a bit of vintage flair to your everyday look. All you need is a long braid, some hairpins and for the early 1900s look some sort of hair cushion. All of these can be easily done in under 5 minutes.

My Great Grandma, from Poland, had long hair for her whole life, til cancer came along. She wore two braids, I think, and had the crown or across just the top of her head. My hair is not that long, but I hope to have such a crown of glory, too! Loved this video!

Thank you for so much helpful advice and demonstration. I have coordination problems which make hairstyling very tricky, and I get so frustrated with videos which say, you just pin it.. like this... without actually explaining which movements to make. Love all your work!

Oh, the 1940s is very clever! I'd have never thought to use the braid itself as a basis for the rolls. A lot of 1940s styles shown all over tend to be for shorter hair, so it's nice to now know what to recommend if someone needs to dress up for just one occasion, and doesn't feel like attempting a very challenging brush out!

I'm a big fan of easy 1940s braid styles since my hair is a bit long for a proper brush put these days 😅

But, it also had many elaborate updos as well i think which is what most people with longer hair did at the time,i suppose.

@@jahirareyes1102 longer hair yes but mid thigh would be rare in any era 😆 elaborate hair was more typical for more formal occasions but most daily hair was relatively simple

@@sewthroughtime Well, obviously not that long.I did notice some updos in the 1940s for practical purposes as well. But ,from a modern perspective in this time ,the hairstyles for simple daily hair looks much different from what we see now, and the way it is styled can look quite complex it may or may not be depending on the hairstyle of course, which that would have its own reason to be that way in the 1940s.I see, hairstyles as an evolution in certain ways and each era has a distinct hairstyle but in the modern era perhaps since the 1970s (but idk? could be more recent) hairstyles have been less layered and more looser waves , or straight which Iam not sure on the history on that, but i know it had a reason to cause that to be (mostly) the default now. Its just nowadays mainstream hairstyles ,are mostly (to me at least it seems to be more boring) i suppose hairstyles now are more about individuality which is great and all,but it kind of leaves out those who would like for their hairstyles to be distinctly from the era they are in and are perhaps not so loose. I mean of course you can never (mostly) mix up a hairstyle from the 1940s with one from the early 1960s for instance they are distinct in that way. (Anyways,i hope i didn't mis understand what you said,as i really do love history (especially the fashion and hair aspect as a 16yr old girl and i like your videos☺ )

I think I like 1900s best, followed by the 1940s. I found it really interesting how they basically covered the braid with the side hair for the 1940s.

It's really neat how you can get so many styles. What about when you have really short hair?
