Excellent. We are headed to Antartica on NCL and will stop by Port Stanley for a few hours on our way back to Buenos Aires. How did you get there to see these penguins. Is this a tour company that you can use at the port? What was the cost? We are a group of ten. Any information will be appreciated.

You need to choose the trip to Volunteer Point, that is where the colony of about 3000 King penguins is. There are also Megalenic and Gentoo there. We booked the ship excursion and I think it was about £160 each. 40 miles by Land Rover convoy, 18 miles on tarmac road, 11 miles on gravel road then 11 miles across the moorland. There are cheaper and nearer trips but they don't have the King penguins. Had about 2 1/2 hours with the penguins. The highlight of our South America cruise.

Think it was 2 hours each way, 18 miles on tarmac, 10 miles on gravel and 10 miles across the moor but well worth the effort.

The Gentoo penguins are very quiet and don't make much noise unlike their neighbours the King penguins
