At least one person has been killed and hundreds remain displaced in uMlalazi, north of KwaZulu-Natal, as the community continues to battle raging veld fires.

The amount of disrespect for generalizing rural people is beyond me. I live in rural areas & that is one thing elderly people always emphasize & very careful about so that the fire does not get out of control. Would you say the same thing about Cape town fires? Sadly it's usualy the same black people who grew up in rural areas who say unimaginable things about villages disregarding our indegenous knowledge. Well, let me educate you; There is always a young smoker who does n't give a blep about the rules, there is always a home headed by children who are trying to take care of their siblings, road accidents seen or unseen can cause fires etc & Stop the undermining interlectual ability of our elders just stop it. Nide nivumelane ngenqalo.

It is blown in order to create a fire break around the property so that the fire will actually die before it reaches the property...... Farmers usually do this as well to protect their fields from burning down

Yep. It's controlled burning. A normal tactic for break lines to control the fire
