At this point niall is the only one who plays an instrument but now they all play guitar and a few of them play piano. Also I totally recommend watching "why one direction concerts are like no other"...I think you'll change your mind about niall and louis only focusing on the singing😂

1) The microphones have different colors to tell them apart. Harry's green, Louis' blue, Liam's red, Zayn's yellow and Niall has an irish flag bc he's colorblind and there are some colors he can't see (and also he's irish). 2) haha Liam always does those mic flips and the fans live for it 3) yes when they were in 1d Niall was the only one who played guitar (all of them except Zayn knew how to play a little of some instruments but Niall was the only one who could play really well. They play instruments more now). 4) I don't think that Liam & Harry thing is planned, they're just vibing on stage and it just happens. And yeah it was probably weird for the boys to go solo, they had to adjust to this change. I've seen many performances from their solo careers on ytb and you can see they're all great on stage on their own for different reasons, I'd love to see them all live.

It’s crazy to me how this is one of my favourite 1D live performances, because ‘clouds’ isn’t even in my top ten 1D songs. I think it’s the insane energy levels they bring to this performance and how they each had a moment to shine vocally, whilst somehow collectively creating this unison with their varying ranges and tones (special shout out to Liam for his harmonies). This performance is just so uplifting to me. It’s one of the reasons why even though they’re on hiatus and pursuing solo projects, I want them back even if for one night of live performances only.

And about the instruments, Nearly all of them played instruments in the ‘little things’ music video but ‘little things’ was on their second album. We see them holding instruments in a recording studio during the video (except Zayn I just went through it quickly and I didn’t see him with an instrument in his hand, but doesn’t mean he couldn’t play one back then) P.s no hate to any of them, they are all talented in their own way

Liam and Harry were always the two who had the most stage presence but harry interacted with the crowd more and I would say he still does. Louis only got really comfortable on stage by the last 2 years or so and niall was kind of in the middle area. I guess it really just depends on their personalities because when you know what kind of person they are you start to see it on stage too.

i think the purpose of coloured mics is sound people will efficiently understand sound system since they are 5 people with niall's guitar too and during specific solos they turn down others mics.

When you said Zayn had left by this point you were dead on. This was filmed March 19th and Z exited the morning of filming. Public announcement was the 25th. The boys must have had a backup plan because Z’s parts were covered flawlessly. The whole Coca-Cola concert series was some of my favorite renditions.

I only got into 1D 4 years ago, but have now watched almost everything on KZfaq, you really need to watch Why 1d are like no other band and Harry king of entertaining, the more you watch of them live, the easier it is to know them, to me Liam always gives 110% and never stands still ( Liam's voice in this is brilliant) just keep watching them, you can't help but love them all ❤

One of my favorite live performance is Drag me down I bealive you would love that. The boys are just feeling each other, it´s not planned at all it´s just the way they used to performed. You can see they are very comfortable with each other and each of them knows his place. Liam was always jumping around with Harry, doing his mike flipps, Louis was making funny faces and doing vocals and Niall was just a happy irish puppy with his guitaire.

The different mic colors is to tell them apart easily if they needed to turn someone's mic up more then the others or something!! They always have the same mics Liam❤ Niall🇮🇪 Harry💚 Zayn💛 Louis💙 So its known in the fandom sense day one each color represent who!! The boys know about it too!! Back in 2013-2014 The fans did a big fan project where the fans went to the concert wearing their favorite member color to show their love so its kinda universal (in the fandom) on what those colors are!!

Liam initiall wasnt gonna be an artist post 1D, but later someone convinced him to start a solo carrier.

Yeah Zayn was part of the studio version, but he left early on when they started their fourth tour and live performances so we didn’t get to hear him in most of the live performances of their fourth album. Zayn actually had one of the parts Louis sang in this song. But I honestly prefer Louis singing it bcz he gives it that punk-rock edge that I don’t think anyone else can. Oh well.

Liam was always so smooth with the mic flip, that was just kind of his thing & his cute moves just entertaining the crowd & of course Harry would entertain in any way he saw fit depending on the venue, on how much room they had to move around , which brings me to my next point, Niall & Louis were a lot of fun too, on tour bc they always had a ginormous stage, catwalk, ramps, rails, all kinds of things they would run on & jump over and the awesome water fights, there were times they were total freakin chaos but I feel like they wouldn’t have been them without the chaos. It was just electric when they were on stage. Niall is colorblind so his mic is done in his flag 🇮🇪 bc of course all the other colors would just look the same & as far as I know they’re colors they picked for themselves for different reasons and so they could keep them separate.✌🏼

The boys microphones are color coded based on their eye color. Two of the boys have brown eyes (Zayn and Liam), two have blue eyes (Niall and Louis), and Harry has green eyes. Liam had a red mic, and Zayn had yellow... and you may wonder how that makes any sense? Well, if you mix red and yellow paint in the proper proportions, you get an orangy-brown. Since two had blue, and you can't use the same technique as with the brown (blue is a primary color), Louis got the blue mic, and Niall got green-white-orange... the colors of the Irish flag. The audio guy needs consistent audio channels as each singers mic is equalized and amplified in the audio mixer board to suit their individual voices. If they were to be on different mixer channels each time because of mixing up their microphones, the audio mixer setup would have to be changed.

With the colours on the microphones, I read/watched something somewhere that Niall gets confused with certain colours. Since he has the Ireland flag colours on his mic, it’s easier for him to grab amongst the others because he had 3 on his most times. Where as the others have/had one colour, so it would be harder for Niall to work out what colour is what. Not sure why the other 4 have always have the colour they have most times but it is/was nice. Liam normally has/had Red, Zayn has/had Yellow, Harry has/had green and Louis has/had blue (If I got something wrong let me know)

The collared bits on the microphones are mic grips, so it makes them easier not to drop and they all picked different colors for their microphone grips.

Idk, correct me if I’m wrong but Liam and Harry had a very sweet brotherly friendship. Their interactions are fun but cool and loving. There’s this series of 6 short videos showing that. yeah you're totally right, they each had their own thing on stage and on interviews. for example, harry was usually the one to give deep and meaningful answers, liam answered the "prepared" ones (the questions they got asked a hundred times) and louis usually said a few funny comments. louis actually talked about how when doing solo interviews his first instinct was always to say something funny but he couldn't do that all the time because now the whole interview relied on him so he had to do all the parts.

Niall learned how to play guitar really young. The others were in the process of learning while in the band. Niall can play guitar, piano, and drums. Harry now can play guitar and some drums and piano. Louis now plays guitar and has played a little piano over the years. Zayn plays guitar and I'm not sure beyond that. Liam I believe can play some guitar and piano as well, but he never does in performances. They all have different performing styles, but all (except Zayn who doesn't perform live anymore due to anxiety) perform with great energy. I see others explained the mic colors. Besides it helping the boys know which mic is theirs it helps the sound engineers out.

Listening to you talk about how Liam and Harry are the more obvious performers and Louis being more in the "background" reminded me of how Louis' role was much bigger behind the scenes. They've all talked about how Louis was the leader, he was the one who negotiated label stuff, and I think it was Niall who once said in an interview that if they hadn't had Louis, they would have lost the plot very early on. It's super interesting to me that they had these different areas where they were important to the band, and where they made the band work as long as it did, bringing all that together. Also, I'll sit here forever singing Olivia to myself until you actuall do it. XD

Zayn was a part of this song. The second pre Louis does was Zayn’s solo. And Zayn also does high notes at the end of the song too. They just really adjusted the best they could without Zayn. They sung more songs that didn’t have such a strong Zayn presence, they know only Zayn could hit notes the way he did.

yeah, I remember when Louis was asked what he felt first time performing on his own he answered "empty space" but they all adjusted and now their shows feel like them also their dinamics on live shows are even more energetic then this video(it's obvs live but like there was no audience): Harry always jumping around, Niall playing guitar and sometimes joined Harry dancing, Liam and Louis used to have waterfights, Liam sometimes danced and Louis has his mannerism which I adore, Zayn always slayed his high notes while looking absolutely unbothered. They also sometimes changed lyrics(mostly Harry and Louis) and had a lot of fun inbetween songs, they read questions from twitter and joked around and there're a literal half an hour videos abt "Harry entertaining the croud". So their concerts always were an experience, even on their last tour(On the road again/OTRA, bit of trivia for you) when they were really tired and overworked but nobody could tell from the outside(which is sad but it proofs that they're real professionals) bit of a long comment, but I can rant about 2015 1d for days so consider it to be a short summary thanks for tour reaction if you're gonna do more live performances I recommend a TV special from Universals (my favourite is Little sings)

That was the thing, people said they weren't a 'real band' because they didn't play instruments. Niall played the guitar all the time during concerts. The others can play instruments, they just didn't. If you see more video of them in concert all the boys would interact with each other and goof around...it gets pretty crazy, they are hilarious. The coloring of the mics...when the boys are performing and want their mic turned up or down they can signal to the crew and they adjust it, so I would think each mic has to have a set signal.
