thanks for mentioning getting a bit heavier before getting lighter is not necessarily a bad thing, rather a step in the process.

Hackamores don’t require contact! Say it again for the people in the back! 👏👏 I’m tired of seeing people on the internet pulling on their poor horses mouths in a harsh bit.

Lovely description of the process of achieving collection, & clever use of a very simple exercise, that is so useful & looks very accurate. I'm watching from Victoria in Australia, so can't come to visit, but your facilities look beautiful & the idea of a 2 day sounds fabulous. Love to see your work Callie, thankyou for sharing! 🐴🐎💐🙏

what do you recommend for working with a young horse who tries to avoid that following movement, I know it sounds odd but it stems from past use with a tie down. what he does when on a gentle contact is either crane his neck and become spooky or rushed, or if he's feeling lazy he will hide his ears and tuck to his chest and go super slow. if you get him moving forward he then tends to try to crane his neck again and hollow and get wiggly and spooky. if I keep a stiffer contact (pulling more than my trainer would like) he will keep his head more still and move off my leg better but is then tense in his rib cage and can't actually follow through with his hind legs, making the contact "bouncy" when we change our gait or move off into a circle or other direction change/ movement besides forward on the rail. when we got him as a 2 year old he'd had 60 days with the amish. after about 7 months he developed a really bad bolting problem so he got some time off and then I restarted hon from the very basics. at that time we did not have an arena or coach, all of our work was done in the paddock or on the road or local trails. after 4 months of ground work I felt he was ready for saddle work and he did ok but became unpredictable and would bolt and rear up, in desperation to continue his training I decided to try a tie down to his breast collar. it worked, he tried to bolt and rear and he couldn't. it's been 2 years since removing the tie down, and although we had success at eliminating the bolt and rear he now has this evasion to contact. I am a part of your online class but I dont use any social media for connecting with you and the other riders and this video seemed very relevant to our current issue in training, hopefully you'll see this and perhaps have some insight. kristi and Chauncey in MN

Can you make a video on how to avoid pulling on your horse's mouth while jumping? I have been trained wrong (jumping quite high, while balancing myself off of reins) and I just cant figure out how to train this bad habit out.

Hi what do YOU do if you get the horse to stretch but then they slow way down? I want them seeking long and low but they have to push from behind right?

Yeah, I have to give, then not following the horse's movement. I have found taking both reins through both hands seems to help the horse become more balanced & light...?

Hello, thank you so much! What should you do when you are schooling a horse… off the track and pony keeps lifting his head and getting very tense. He then speeds up to run away from contact. Even if I sit deep. I then end up using to much hand to slow pony down… he is in a Micklem bridle with a French link Thank you

Check out Warwick Schiller's video about bending to a stop. If you teach your horse that properly, you won't have to pull hard to get them to slow down, then you would at least have a good break if he starts running off. He probably also has some videos on how to help stressed horses meditate/relax. You probably also have to reteach the cues, at least trotters are taught to run faster from pressure on the bit, so your horse may just be misunderstanding you.
