This is an excellent video. I only have a two pound ankle weight but I wore it around the house and when I went to the rec center this afternoon. I noticed I could walk better and my surgical leg was not as stiff. It loosened up a little bit and wasn’t as stiff and swollen.

Nice! That’s great to hear… this is a common strategy used for stroke patients but I think it’s a great technique for anyone who is hesitant to put weight through one leg while walking and standing.

@@KneeReplacementTherapists Do you have a video or opinion on water therapy or aqua fitness classes for TKR therapy? Thank you.

@@slundgr Here is an old video talking about the benefits of aquatic therapy: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ipmnhNuKzM-sYYE.html ... unfortunately no videos actually demonstrating different exercises, but I think aquatic therapy is an awesome option, especially for people who don't tolerate standing weight bearing activities well because of pain.

I am afraid to walk on surgical leg. *I DO NOT KNOW WHY😪* I know it will take time I am 44 days out from surgery. I will be glad when this is over. This has been overwhelming

I'm sorry to hear about your struggles.. It does take time to develop confidence and trust in your surgical leg. A little bit each day and doing your exercises consistently is the key.

Sure wish I had seen your videos 3 years ago after my knee replacement. I still have a bad gait ever since my knee replacement even though I have had PT numerous times. I also had piriformis syndrome on the same side as my knee surgery since then which was excruciating and preventing me from walking. Fortunately that improved with me doing chair yoga. I'm trying to walk as you had instructed as I have developed a habit of dragging the left leg.

I'll try this. My TKR was 11/24. (The Mako robotic assist). I'm having trouble try to learn to walk "normal" again. My wife says I'm too impatient. Thank for the video....I'll give some feedback later.

I don’t have a video specifically about this topics. However, the guidelines are similar to going up and down stairs. Go up leading with the good (non surgical) leg and go down leading with the bad (surgical leg) first. The balance and strength and confidence really just comes with confidence. Try practicing using a bottom step of a staircase going up and down. Start with using the railing / arms for support and stability and then take away the support from the arms as you gain confidence. Hope this helps!

You may find this exercise helpful, especially if you find yourself taking smaller steps or not bearing weight through your surgical foot as much after surgery.

I dislocated my knee 3 times in my life as a 15 year old, which was July, 2022 it’s almost been a year now and I still can’t walk properly and it makes me very insecure and it’s still swollen, what should I do?

The best way to build stability in the knee, and in turn, improve the ease with walking, is to build strength in your legs. Particularly, your quadricep muscles of your thigh and your gluteal muscles. Exercises such as body weight squats, single leg deadlifts, step ups, step downs, lunges, lateral step ups, side stepping are just some good ones to check out and potentially try. Thanks for the question!

Thanks for the question... continue to work on range of motion exercises both extension and flexion... quad sets, heel slides, etc. Also, you may have an issue of quadricep / thigh muscle strength. Focus on building strength. And the last thing, just keep walking, practice makes perfect, or at least better.
