For many of us countrymen Patrick Macnee represents everything English dare I say even British. Pride in the past, resilience and restraint with a dignified charm unmatchable anywhere in the world and where many around the world aspire to be likewise. Yet this can never be bought, sold or easily won. Steed and Mrs Peel weren't just an act, both are humans with attributes and failings like anyone, except they set an example for all to see and enjoy, and did it better than anyone then and since..

Very nice! I loved the Avengers series when I was a boy and still watch the re-runs now. Bless you Patrick! I live in Hastings, East Sussex so will see if I can visit Bosham.

I love that smile at 2:37! The man may have been older and greyer, but you can tell he was John Steed and still had that same charming smile! RIP, Mr Macnee - I'll miss you.

He is (Was) and always will be John Steed, the epitome of an English gentleman, and if lucky a friend.

I sense the same with the English Gentleman tag ! although many people know he was Scottish..but he's still our John Steed.

*Robert Harding* You were not entirely incorrect.... He was of Scottish *descent*, and very proud of it. His father was the grandson of the Scottish painter Sir Daniel Macnee...

He made John Steed the greatest secret agent on TV in the fantastic Avengers the Immortal classic show and the companions were just as in important but one I think that stould out was Emma Peel Diana Rigg truly the best of course Kathy was the first their first class and had charm and wit and smart to Them I say thank you for everything and RIP to the original Avengers three stars who shine forever.

Not mentioning Linda Thorson as Tara King does not do this legendary TV series justice at all.

I wonder what the village with the picture postcard cottage was? Somewhere near Chichester and Bosham presumably.
@michaelportaloo19814 жыл бұрын
Oh, the village in the shots is Bosham. Doesn't quite make sense; why would his landlady need to tell him about Bosham Harbour(?), unless the cottage wasn't in Bosham.
@michsmi82973 жыл бұрын
I think the cottage was actually in Runcton, so it wasn't in Bosham.

i feel rather guilty having to correct Mr Macnee but he is wrong about king Canute. The statement he was making was simply this i may be king but i have no more power over nature than any one else.So as to the old myth that he tried to turn back the tide. The opposite was true. He was also a Christian king and by doing this he was showing is humility
