One of these days, humanity will hear the phrase "what is love" without feeling the urge to reply "baby don't hurt me." And on that day, humanity will say "baby don't hurt me" no more.

I'm glad Todd was able to articulate that "gothic" bigness of 90s dance music. That's exactly why I love it so much, but I was never able to put it into words until now. In fact, I think that video is kinda sexy!

I was struck by that statement too. Like Todd, I'm more of a classic rock guy (or more of a straight up oldies guy actually) but I like a lot of 90s dance music hits. I think that "bigness" has a lot to do with it. The songs are catchy and they sound epic.

Thanks for reminding me of that record, "I've Been Thinking About You" by Londonbeat; always really liked it. One of the oddest one hit wonders was "Living in Oblivion" by Anything Box. The lyrics in the hook are so melodramatic as to be unintentionally campy and yet the record was quite catchy. "What is Love" was a big dance club hit in the clubs here. That was when Arista Records was really putting out a lot of great pop and dance tunes (Taylor Dane, Expose, Haddaway, Ace of Base). The production on this record is a big part of its hook. I never even heard any of Haddaway's follow-up singles once here in L.A.

Because every time I hear that song, it makes me think of someone being electrocuted by the nipples.

Never charted tbh. It was the only successful Flobots song, partly thanks to Logan Paul

don't need the song to chart if a lot of people know it and, well, a lot of people know it. It's recognizable. And the music video? art.
@austinadams51096 жыл бұрын
Ummm no. The song was a massive hit in my teenage years. That had nothing to do with Logan Paul, because that cover was recent...

I don't know about Seal being a nobody in 1990. Around the same time that Adamski's 'Killer' came out, he had his solo debut in the R&B jam 'Crazy.' Both this and a remake of 'Killer' were on his first album in 1991. He HAS gone on to greater things, but he did have recognition at the beginning - not enough to have upfront credit on 'Killer' at first, but eventually.

This song already warrants many headbobs, but can you imagine if they made a metal cover of it?

Can somebody please make a remix of this and Phantom of the Opera?!

Sailor Italy look on KZfaq for Harajuku’s Phantom of the Opera. It’s gloriously cheesy and epic.

Which song would be best to use, though? Phantom? All I Ask of You? Angel of Music? ...I'd kind of like to see if someone could mix Point of No Return with this.

First of all how dare you I love Mr Vain. Secondly early nineties dance music is my childhood.

I do agree that "What Is Love" conveys the atmosphere that you are in a cathedral or opera house while listening to it, but it wasn't just dance music that was doing that in the '90s, "The One" by Elton John conveys that atmosphere as well.

I really liked this song, it was so popular and held up well against Culture Beat, Urban Cookie Collective and other eurodance acts. This music was super popular in the UK charts, it was everywhere. This has brought back so many memories to me of the happier side of the 90s
