@@jake.s7065 Yeah it's kinda interesting how much communist values of solidarity and taking care of your fellow man overlaps with Jesus' teachings. I'm not a big fan of religion and feel like we should grow beyond the need for such things, but I feel a lot of peoples would've turned more socialist if we didn't have that anti-religious reputation.

Military Music in the GDR has its very own style but still if you here it you know it is a german march. Awesome that they sticked to the german/prussian style while giving their music its own touch
@lpflore
@lpflore 4 жыл бұрын
The Russians actually told the east German generals that wanted to weak Russian style clothing: "You are German, dress accordingly!" The Russians basically wanted East Germany to be socialist but keep it's German spirit. Many people misinterpret socialism and connect it with mixing cultures. It actually does the opposite. If everyone has the same chances you don't need to go somewhere for economical benefit and can live in the culture you love. I for an example like eastern European culture and good thing I live in East Germany, sadly in eastern European country's people earn less so it would only make my life harder if I would go there.

@imatreebelieveme6094
@imatreebelieveme6094 2 жыл бұрын
@@lpflore Socialism allows for a national identity that isn't based on the supremacy of your own nation but on the fight against oppression. That doesn't mean that it is inherently against mixing cultures. Minority cultures in, for example, Vietnam are actively kept alive by teaching their languages in school. Cultures will influence each other if they are allowed to connect and that is okay. If people don't have to commercialize their culture they can express it freely, so it might look like cultures are being kept separate, but that is just because,you see the majority culture being displayed proudly more often. Because cultures don't have compete for market space, however, this doesn't result in a silencing of minority cultures. A socialist Germany in the modern day would definitely prominently feature a lot of cultures in its cultural tapestry with minority representation in political organs. Simply because the proletariat of the German nation is culturally diverse in the current age. If this is a bad thing for you then you might be the very thing that is denounced in some parts of this song. There can't be a communist movement that isn't internationalistic in its spirit. You are right, however, that you would probably see a development of prominent geographical cultures simply because of those cultures developing separately and there being little need to move. Free travel, trade and migration should always keep up some minimum level of cultural exchange though. Current German patriotism can't really be socialist though since we're part of the imperial core. We'd have to change our nation if we want to be proud of it, otherwise it is too easy to fall prey to exceptionalism and play into the hands of the capitalist class by paving the way for fascist violence ripping apart the working class.

Here in Chile the army was modernized between the 1880's and the 1930's with German instructors. Even their uniforms were adopted, which are used to this day in ceremonies. Unfortunately, the Yankee influence after WWII has turned the Latin American Armed Forces, the Chilean ones included, into mere security guards of capitalism, useful only to repress the people, but with a dubious capacity for conventional warfare (well, the Chilean Army was never kind to the people, but until the 1960's its capacity as a combat force was undeniable). It is weird to think that if the CIA had not managed to sabotage Salvador Allende's socialist government, the Army would have resumed the German tradition, this time in the Eastern version.

140 people died along the border from the 60s to the late 80s/early 90s. I think more people die at the Mexican American border every year, and is the same number of Palestinian civilians murdered by the IDF in 2019. How many of these ‚Maueropfer‘ drove through the zone with their car like a terrorist, or was a west German spy/reactionary trying to escape aka appropriate defense of a sovereign nation? Could the same be said about the asylum seeking civilians dying at your border? If your KZfaq Account still active, go search for Republic of Molossia vs East Germany. This micronation believes that his country is still at war with East Germany because a part of land (now called Ernst Thälmann Island) that was given from Fidel Castro in 1972 was never mentioned in the document when DDR had joined West Germany. So technically that island in cuban waters is still part of DDR someway.

@Joseph Tarkington Uncle Karl knows the difference. Would love to see the sifu of dialectics get shitfaced at Octoberfest and start a dozen brawls over minor political disagreements. What the future that could've been if the commies had the organization and ruthlessness to overthrow Weimar instead of the liberals and social democrats effectively giving the country to the nazis out of fear of communists, that would have been something to see. Rich people be looking to their left for some poor street urchin coming for their pocket watch and then from their right comes a fanatical war-worshipping crusade that levels everything about their country that was supposed to be great. If the DDR had formed under the genuine revolutionary violence of Germans against the German bourgeoisie it would be fascinating to see how it differed from the Soviet cookie cutter version, they needed to create as an anti-fascist placeholder. If the first marxist revolution had happened in the home country of Marx, even if it failed eventually it would have been a very different story than with all these post-colonial countries on the periphery trying to use Communism as a "develop your way out of the imperialist enforced stone age you'd been kept in" when Marx was writing about a natural evolution from one mode of production to another. Sometimes I can't stop myself from imagining what Germany couldn't have been: Marx's Germany if the spartacist uprising had been anywhere near as organized and efficient as the Stasi once would be. If there had been A Soviet Russia and a Socialist Germany though who knows, perhaps WW2 would have ended up as a war between socialist countries rocking the name not just for branding... Still, Germany missed out and we missed out, in getting to see what that technologically advanced, industrial communist country (which produced the father of marxism directly) could have been. I wonder whether they would have tried to integrate or just went the French Revolutionary path of fighting everyone. Despite Germany's status as the most industrialized country of the time and the country that produced so much of what Socialism is today it gets stuck with these lazy coat of nazi lacquer all over its name, I would pay so much to read an alt history fanfic where instead of stooping to the Holocaust by some strange miracle they ended up going hardcore communist, but not in some Lenin-impersonating way. Yeah, sometimes history does need a push but it sucks when one man and not the advantageous material conditions are doing the pushing.

@@DinoCism Ah, good old social-fascism doctrine, Stalin would be proud. "Marx was writing about a natural evolution from one mode of production to another." Which is why Russia, the most reactionary place becomming Socialist was bound to failure. The USSR should have continued Bukharin's NEP, not forced collectivization and terror. It's not like Soviet Russia in the 30s was a shining beacon of humanity either. You can't really expect germans to have a positive opinion of Communism after all the bloody stories comming out of Russia. The Stalinist model was a failure and its export in the Eastern Block was a failure.

@Norwegian Baron danke mein bruder! I hit the like button and can't wait to listen to all of these songs. I play classical piano and studied in Vienna, like Haans Eisler who wrote the tune to the National Anthem of the DDR lyrics below. I was born in the USA but I am Bavarian, Russian, Cossack, English and Norwegian. "Auferstanden aus Ruinen" translated in English to Rise from Ruins. DDR had some problems but good people looked out for one another, I also had family in East Berlin and Leipzig so my family was split up as well. DDR was the last patriotic German state that kept some of the Prussian traditions alive. Katyusha andВ Путь (V Put), and Varshavianka is Polish Russian so 3 are Russian one is Italian and the rest are German.

They sure did Willy Sanchez. I mean there is a reason why it was called Auferstanden aus Ruien. Now Haans Eisler wrote that song, and some of the German songs that Norwegian Barron pointed to. For your historical refrerence, Johannes R. Becher who later on became the Minister of Culture, wrote the lyrics. I thought it would be nice to give people the historical background as well. Haans Eisler like many East Germans, were influenced heavily by Soviet Communist style music. If you listen to both, you will notice they are very similar and Eisler and other German composers wrote Russian songs. Did you know even Beethoven had a Russian style song? Anyways I find it fascinating because on my mom and dad's side I am German and on my dad's side I am Russian. I really love the history sure there were some problems but DDR lasted so long because good people looked out for one another and they kept many Prussian traditions alive. They achieved some amazing things and yes there was Stazi but at least they did not steal resources from other countries. You have to at least give Walter Ulbricht and Erik Horneker(two DDR leaders) credit for that.

@Halvecock Valenari but I have Nordic features I'm 6 feet 5 , large broad shoulders, have blond hair and blue eyes. I am also a zebra stripe or farmer's tan so on my lower arms I might pass as French or Italian but you can clearly see by my face and my upper arms, body and legs I am Nordic. On the Russian side my dad comes from St Petersburg Rock City and has the same features as me Northern Russian Slavic and you have Scandanvian in that area as well. Bavarian, like on my mom's side are Nords and 30% of the English Royal Family is also German btw so Germans and English share a common DNA. I am the definition of an American boy, a Euro mutt but I am proud of my cultures be it Cossack, Norwegian, English, Bavarian etc. Are you trying to be a keyboard warrior right now just asking? Nobody likes that guy we are here discussing DDR music and history. so if you don't want to contribute to that then please screw off.
