Getting started on the rear half of the truck. In this video we're taking off the bed and installing C-notches to allow more clearance and travel for the axels. After this we'll be putting in new brake lines, an under bed gas tank, and 2" drop blocks.

This is where I am, bed extraction...I think I'm gonna go this route with it & use some of my old lumber around here to build a similar frame...my long bed is still a long bed though, so it'll be interesting to see where the balance point is...

Great content, thanks for sharing with us! Just a comment about lifting the bed. I also work alone, picked the bed (mine is still a long bed) with one 2x6, a strap, and a shackle to connect to the hoist hook. The 2x6 was cut to fit snugly under the upper bed sides and ended up against the stake pockets for balance. I oriented the board vertically, not flat, but I think it’s strong enough either way. It was easy to adjust and balance with one person. I put it on a cart similar to what Paul built for his cab. Nothing wrong with Paul’s design except a bit of overkill. Thanks for this series, Paul! I’m a few years behind you but this series is really valuable!

I really enjoy watching your videos, I have a square body project and am a one man show myself. I appreciate the ingenuity and planning as you tackle each step of your build. You’ve been an inspiration to me and spurred on my stalled build. Thanks for sharing your project with us!

Awesome videos, really wanted to make something similar to remove my bed but the cost of lumber is absurd... I just hooked to the bed itself with some ratchet straps, worked good!

I wish I could go back in time and recommend to you some new casters for that Pittsburgh engine hoist. I just started using mine and quickly realized why they are so cheap. Some decent quality casters makes that engine hoist so much easier to roll around. Same with the Harbor Freight engine stands.

I’d definitely go get a few 1 inch welds at the corners on that after it’s driving. If you put any power in that truck the frame twist will be exaggerated. Might cost you $40 at a shop, strengthen in be 100%

Was the c notch needed for the 5" lowering springs or the additional 2" blocks? I think I'm do springs only and is c notch necessary?
@paulkc10
@paulkc10 4 жыл бұрын
With 5” springs you may hit at full compression. I never did but I didn’t have too many miles on it before I put the notch and the blocks in.

Aren't you going to weld it up? Pretty sure the bolts are just to get it aligned and clamped in the right place, then it should be welded
@paulkc10
@paulkc10 5 жыл бұрын
Nope. Bolt in kits don’t need to be welded.

You might have answered the question. But with that c notch how many inches are you dropping the rear? Obviously I imagine you are changing springs? Thank you
@paulkc10
@paulkc10 4 жыл бұрын
C-notch doesn’t lower it at all. I put in 5” lower springs prior to this. Coupled with the 2” lowering block it’s a 7” drop

nice to see someone do a decent video of the c notch install, I still haven't put mine in iv been procrastinating because im nervous ill mess it up but im good now after watching you do it. Did you put your brackets back in for the coil springs? you need them the keep the frame from flexing thought id mention it because I didn't notice them after you put the c notch in

@@paulkc10 did you get instructions with your notch? The instructions that came with my cpp notch say to trim the edge off the bracket so the notch can sit flush against the frame. If I could id post a pic of the install instructions

If I was going to be towing or hauling gravel or something I’d want it there. But for normal use it’s not needed. Most kit instructions assume you’re keeping the bed on, so it says to just cut the bracket and remove the lower part.
