Lucky passed away in March 2024. We were planning to get a puppy when he was alive, to have one older Golden and one puppy. But unfortunately it did not happen. Lucky had anaplasmosis (A.Platys). Since he lived on the streets for God knows how many years, it is no surprise that in the past he got bitten by a tic. We discovered that he tested positive, but the vet said that he is fine and he didn't want to treat him immediately, basically "no symptoms, no treatment". I looked up in the literature, because I am a biomedical researcher and I tend to take every information with a grain of salt, and indeed, there is no consensus about the treatment of anaplasmosis. So, one day we woke up, went out for a walk, as always, and when we came home he refused to drink and eat in the morning. Red flag. We went immediately to a different clinic and he received treatment (doxycycline for 21 days). He didn't support the antibiotics (vomited them) and on day 3 he got worse. Keep in mind, that we were everyday at the clinic. According to the vet, it is not very common to die from anaplasmosis, but it can happen. So we were pretty optimistic. So, on day 3 he was hospitalized to receive antibiotics and some other cocktail by IV. It was a horrible night. We couldn't sleep. Next morning, the vet called at 8h00 to tell us that we can visit Lucky at 10am. We were so happy that he was better. We went immediately direction the clinic, but first we stopped to grab a coffee because it was still early. Then the clinic called to tell us that he passed away... I cried my eyes out in front of everybody in the coffeeshop. We went to the clinic anyway, but they said that it is better not to kiss him goodbye and just keep good the memories. I swear... when they handed me his collar... I thought that my life was over... We came home to an empty house... We took the car and we drove to our family in Belgium and stayed there 20 days. We cleaned the car yesterday... we could't remove his hair. I still haven't washed his brush (still hair on it) ... When we came back to Sofia, we though... okay we will do as we said... even if Lucky is not here anymore, we will take a puppy and call him Leo. So said and done. The first day when we got Leo, he found Lucky's bed and fell a sleep on it. 1 more reason to cry. We are still I hearth broken. Lucky was really an angel on earth. I couldn't make a video telling this story without crying, so ... yeah.

You know… I often think about his siblings and I truly hope that they are adopted by nice loving families.. unfortunately I don’t know who these people are. I regret to not having taken his brother.. but you know … apartment .. 😔😔

Normalement c'est pareil partout dans le monde civilisé. Le problème est que la maman de Léo, n'était pas là. Une labrador l'allaitait lui et ses frères. Quand on est allé le chercher, on s'attendait de voir des chiots de 2-3 mois, mais non 5 semaines... Léo mangeait de la nourriture solide. J'avais dit à la personne que selon nous il est trop tôt d'adopter un chiot aussi petit!! J'étais vraiment, mais vraiment fâchée ce jours la. Mon companion a dit qu'il vaut mieux qu'on le prenne parce que on va réussir de lui donner une très belle vie et bonne éducation. On avait pas trop de confiance en ce monsieur. Je suis restée polie, mais à l'intérieur de mois, je vous dis pas....A mon avis, le monsieur voulait s'en débarrasser le plus vite possible, afin d'éviter de payer pour les vaccins, microchip, passeport ect. Le pauvre Léo, est arrivé à la maison remplis des puces. On en a tué 11 ! Il avait aussi des verres...Le lendemain on l'a emmené directement chez la vétérinaire. On a beaucoup parlé avec la vétérinaire et elle a dit que c'est un challenge mais que l'on allait se débrouiller très bien. Comme quoi.. il y a des gens dans ce monde qui font des choses pas bien réfléchis.. Le problème est que en Bulgarie, il n'y a pas une organisation qui contrôle ce genre de choses. Bref. Heureusement que maintenant tout va bien, il grandit bien et on attend avec impatience son 3ième vaccin pour pouvoir sortir :D ❤

🐾 Non taken! He had no passport.We made him one upon the first vet visit. (We took Leo a Saturday, and we made an appointment for Monday). The guy from whom we took Leo, gave us a piece of paper where he hand wrote some gibberish information, including the date of birth the 2nd of March 2024. He was trying to convince me that the puppy is fine thanks to mom’s immunity. I didn’t tell him that my specialty is immunology 😂😂. We did the first vaccine the 25th of April, which is not 💯 to schedule, because when we got him he had worms and additionally tested positive for Giardia (GI parasite found in areas with poor hygiene and water…) and he had to be treated and then receive the first vaccine. It was quite a journey. So, hopefully you understand why we just took Leo from the guy and we went home… I even bothered to sent the guy a message, informing him about the potential risk for Giardia for the other dogs! You know what he fed the other puppies? Some cheap kibble mixed with yogurt. I saw also the big green flies on the food… When I told the story to our vet, she said that we did good to follow our intuition 🐾🫶🏻

He stays at home, so I don’t think it’s a good idea to have a voller around the neck. However, lately I put the collar multiple times a day, which coincide with the times at which he will go for a walk. I keep the collar for 15-20 min and I remove it. Regarding the microchip, we will place the day he receives his third puppy vaccine 🐾🍀
