Big fan, watched for years. Why not use a trailer hitch and rent a trailer from U-Haul for the couch and stuff you’re leaving behind. A hitch installed and the rental wouldn’t cost as much as what you’re leaving behind.

Personally, I suggest you make the extra trip that way if there is more stuff that you need to take down, you can do that on those extra two trips later down the road after your permanently down there. It gives you a little bit more flexibility plus you might be able to get your couch down there in the next trip with your big heavy TV.

I'm just wondering .......with all the stress of all the separate trips to and from....gas per trip....wear and tear on your van plus probably needing to buy a new couch. Would renting a U-Haul have been cheaper.....or at least comparable to what its cost you without the stress? Keep in mind I haven't checked prices myself.....and I know its expensive. But just looking at the big picture.

Buy the new couch (regardless whether you take an extra trip), trust me it will be worth it a year from now (doesn't seem like it I know). I do worry about the miles on the van (cause from an outsider's point of view, it seems a lot) as well as the driving effort but if that's what it is going to take, then take one extra trip to get your stuff down there.
