To what Dad was saying towards the end, I fully agree. 80's, 90's, and very early 2000's rap & hip hop have WEIGHT to it, that is very hard to find in the modern stuff. It exists, but it's not common.

As being a new father... I appreciate the songs of my youth being first watched by pops. Hearing these songs now as a father hits different. Seeing the emotion of a song that I've heard many times is so awesome.

Your dad reminds me of my dad. Growing up, we weren’t allowed to listen to rap music. Now he sings along to the old school classics. Just goes to show you, sometimes we judge people because of outside influences. But, until you hear what they’re saying, you listen and form your own opinion, you won’t know what you’re missing.

What your dad said at the end is facts! Music like this was revered because the power behind the message. The only mainstream rappers who can have a message delivered in such a way where the majority of "hip hop fans" wouldn't call them "cOrNy" are J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar. You couldn't go a day without hearing Hate it or Love It on major hip hop radio stations when the song came out. Today, you'll never (or very rarely) hear anything close to this song, or artists who actually care about hip hop on the radio.

There's an interesting backstory to this film clip. This was filmed when 50 and Game were beginning to feud. That's why 50 was in the back of the car, not next to Game, 50 refused to sit next to him apparently. I'd love to see your Dad's reaction to some of their diss songs towards each other considering how much he loves their music together haha, was a good era.

I really enjoy watching your vids. It has introduced me to some music I've never heard (mostly the non-hip hop stuff) and have grown to like. Best parts of the channel though has to be the interaction between the two of you and of course Dad's open mindedness and genuine insights, some i haven't thought of before (I grew up on 90s hip hop).
