My grandmother always had a sweet potato vine growing in her kitchen. She would let the vines grow long and loop them around the window and the cabinets. Good memories!

Your Sweet Potato slips reminded me of growing up in the Suburbs of Chicago. My mother taught third grade in an urban school where many of her students had never seen a garden, and one of her science units was one where she demonstrated how sweet potatoes and regular potatoes were utilized to plant a crop for a new season. She would have regular seed potatoes that she cut up and had the students plant in large garden pots of potting soil and she would have teams of students take their sweet potatoes in a jar of water and care for them until they could take the slips and plant them in large pots with potting soil. They never produced potatoes of any size, but they learned where the potatoes came from and how they grew. I always appreciated spending summers on my mother's family farm and was thrilled when we moved there when I was 14 years old.

I need to start making me some slips soon. The purple sweet potatoes are very starchy, more like a regular potato. Some people may really enjoy them if they don’t like regular ones. ❤ from Maryland

That's what I do every year, I start my own slips. And I get my irish white potatoes i used some of my old potatoes from last year. I always have some of the best potatoes. My dad takes me to grow my own sweet potato slips and start my Irish potatoes. Thank you ms lori so many people don't know how to do these. Sweet potatoes are very important for ladies to eat it help with so many issues from young ladies to 70 years old. Going through the "change" in life at every woman's life. Those sweet potatoes are so good to help with those. And sweet potatoes are just good how every you cook them.

I love sweet potato pie!!! You certainly have a green thumb. My mother used to do well with her garden. Mine is hit and miss. Some years are wonderful, others are flops. Of course, sometimes little furry critters get under the fence and they get more out of it than I do. I can't say that I really mind. They have to eat too. I hope you have a bumper crop. God Bless!

I’ve got a few in water with roots already plus 2 in jars. Can’t wait to plant them. I remember back in the late 50’s early 60’s mom would put sweet potatoes in a jar like that and one she’d just let grow. I think that’s where I get my love of gardening.

I never raised sweet potatoes, or at least I didn't think I have. I have started sweet potatoes just like you did using the sweet potatoes. Then I planted ir in a hanging flower pot just for the vines. Since I seen what you do, I thinking it might had made some baby sweet potatoes in the pot. I never thought about it. Glad you shown us this ,it gives me some ideas. About the rain, you can have it, I just received over 6 inches of rain this past week, I don't need any more for awhile. It wash my garden away and got to start all over again when it get dry enough. My place stays wetter than a lot of other people, cause I'm at the bottom of 3 hills. Good job Ms Laurie, yes my sweet tators slips are ready to plant too here in NE Alabama. It makes me feel real good knowing I'm able to feed myself without going to grocery stores much at all. Honestly there's no nutrition in anything in grocery stores and the food is full of chemicals nowadays. I try to encourage everyone I know to start growing thier own food.
