If you really think both Mai and Sakuta from the first time line are dead. Cuz Mai died and Sakuta came back to the past to change it and died instead of the other Sakuta. Now knowing that It makes this movie even more sad.

They didnt make it clear in the movie but Mai acting in that hearth donor movie , inspired some random guy (not sakuta nor mai) to be a hearth donor , thats how shoko survived , she received a hearth from someone else

Just wanted to explain the ending more clearly for you guys. Sakuta went back in time when he and Mai fell asleep at the hospital but this time he didn't remember what happened in the future so it was like an "unexplained dream" to them and so he redid everything (went to the same school, met mai, futaba, kunimi) but this time never met Shoko which makes them complete strangers until the beach scene at the ending. When Sakuta and Shoko saw each other at the ending all of their memories from the future came back to them that's why they were able to recognize each other. Mai's movie inspired someone to donate a heart that's why Shoko is alive and healthy. P.S. Im still not sure so this is still like a theory to me: The reason why is Sakuta and Shoko are the only one who remembered each other is because they've experience time travel.

Fun fact: the person who sings the ending song in this anime is the voice actor that plays the character being shown. Since u hear multiple people singing at the end, that's actually the voice actors of mai, kaede, futaba, makinohara, nodoka and tomoe

I'm so glad they made this movie to adapt Shoko's arc and close her story with Sakuta. The story didn't end tho, there's much more in the novel and Sakuta and Mai's relationship gets better and better! By now, theres already enough content for season 2, so we can still hope. One of, if not the best couple i've seen in a show.

@@FernandoMartinez-wk4xr Anime was pretty faithful to the novel, the only difference is that Mai kisses Sakuta at the end of season 1 and in the movie as well. Movie covered volume 6~7, so i would just continue from there.

It was a beautiful anime and it's my fav in the romance genre, I cried a lot with this movie. I watched all the anime again with you guys and i'm glad I did. Hope they release a 2nd season, I need to see more of Mai and Sakuta.

The light novel is still ongoing, the first season and the movie only covered the first seven volumes so maybe they'll create a second season in the future.

What you don’t know is that the reason that Shoko lived is because of Mai taking the role in the movie, and a whole bunch of people became donors, and that is because Mai probably dreamed about those memories from the other timeline, and felt the need to play the role, also, the younger Shoko created a future that they never met her, that’s why they didn’t remember. Note: Mai also remembered all their memories at the same time that Sakuta did, as that is mentioned in a later light novel (yes the story continues, let’s hope that a season 2 will be animated).

Seems like you were confused at the ending, so here is the explanation of it. When they went back to change the past, everything that happened in the series from episode 1 became all a dream. Makinohara managed to get through her anxiety for her future so her puberty syndrome didn't develop. Sakuta and Makinohara never met. He only knew her through his dreams. All of the things that happened about Makinohara became only a dream for Sakuta, that's why he didn't recognized her right away at the end.

@@zakwanjohari159 No, the movie Mai made in honor of Makinohara had encouraged the population of Japan to donate more to people like her. She was saved because of the movie Mai starred in at the potential cost of everyone forgetting her, but as we know Sakuta is stubborn and refuses to forget about people he cares about. Sakuta defied the rules like he did for Mai just so he could remember her again

Didnt even realize I started crying till I went to cratch my face at the end and only felt tears on the side of my face.... What can I say?... Bunny Girl Senpai is a true work of art, an unbelievable story packed into 13 eps and 1 movie, so much emotion, one of the most beautiful shows i've ever seen, SUCH A SHAME it probably wont get a s2, thank you Brianxstephanie sooo much for reacting to this 1 in a million love story between a Bunny girl, and her kohai😉😂❤️

What happened in the end is that when they fell asleep in the hospital, Sakuta returned to the past as a last desperate attempt to save Shoko in some way. When he returned to the past (the present actually, when Shoko was in her classroom) everything that happened in the "future" with Mai and everyone else happened again as it was (just like in Koga's arc) without the influence of Shoko, BUT due to the quantum theory (quantum entanglement maybe, or also the Laplace demon thing) everyone saw the future only as a "dream", in Mai's case, everything was reflected as the desire to take the role in a movie about a girl with a heart disease and thus, with the interpretation of that role, inspired more people to become donators and with that last effort Sakura managed to save Shoko at the end. PD: When I saw this movie I cried like a baby for hours xD

And then when they see each other again on the beach they remember the past timelines and everyone lives happily ever after 🙏🏼😭😭😭 I just finished the show and movie it was a masterpiece

At the end, the little Makinohara figured out how time travel works and when did her puberty syndrom started, so she was the one who decided to sleep to go back in time, not Sakuto. Actually, the reason why Makinohara's notes were switching was because they were actually in the future all this time, "her future". Meanwhile in the present her younger self was typing and scratching thoughts about the future in the paper at the classroom. But even if they go back to change the future, they'll dream about these alternative routes. That's why, even if Makinohara managed to make a present where Sakuto and her never met, they dreamed about what they've experienced the whole time, and that's how they recognized each other at the end.

The way Shoko survived was that the movie Mai did raised awareness about organ donation and she received a transplant sometime after that. Also, this is not the end. The light novels (the source material) are still ongoing covering their time in college.

Technically Shouko stood to her word when she "died" and they restarted everything from the beginning thays why the reality disintegrated into nothing and then moved to Mai in her childhood finishing her assignment

basically in the end, Makino restarts the story and in essence rewrites the future by coming to terms with her condition and finishing her class assignment as shown in the elementary 4-1 scene at the end . Now the story goes exactly as Futaba theorized where Sakuta never meets Makino at the beach but instead just has dreams of it. He still goes through all the wild puberty syndrome situations that we all know of but without his chest scars or the presence of Makino... the end also suggests that Mai doing a movie about heart disease raised awareness ( also Sakuta's donations and prayers) and in turn helped the recovery of Makino. They didn't know exactly why they felt the need or urge to take on those actions but the viewers know its cuz they have a direct connection to Makino and those feelings and memories were returned when they met at the beach in the end. :D

Here is explanation, why all stuff about Makinohara in end was forgotten by everyone. Remember last dialogue between Sakuta and Shouko? Shouko said, that she will go back in the past end fix everything. She wrote her expectations for future in elementary school, thats it. So she fixed her Puberty Syndrome in very beginning) Thats why all stuff Sakuta went through was just like a dream

i think i know why they both forgot about shouko (or at least everybody knew idk) in the future shes supposed to be alive but in reality shes ded thats why she came back to her more younger self with her full memory from the previous "life" thats why the movie show shouko finished writing her future plan work thingy, bcs thats what happened to sakuta when he save himself . He rejoin his oldself with full memory of the "world" where mai died, mai supposed to die but she didnt thats why sakuta rejoin his oldself same thing thats happened to shouko after shes asleep(?) shes back to another world with no concern about her future and thats make her immune(?) to the puberty syndrom and thats why sakuta forgot bcs shouko never met sakuta at the beach. they never met eachother on the new "Life", thats why Sakuta and Mai doesnt remember or know her

Apparently the faded memory of Shouko in Mai, made her make the movie(in-anime). Which caused many people get motivated about organ donation. That's how Shouko lives, even though she choosed to die in the new future she made. "If you sacrifice or do good things for greater good, the greater good will eventually found you too", is what this movie is try to say in its whole premise.

To anyone who doesn't understand, Mai doesn't die since sakuta can't imagine a future without her and Mai won't let Sakuta die so either Shoko dies in the end or someone else gives her a heart. An actually that is probably the best ending possible.

So my opinion about this anime is, this is all in shoko mind, i mean shoko 4th grade can see through future. Theres 3 future if shoko get puberty syndrome 1.sakuta dead 2 mai dead and 3 shoko dead. So shoko 4th grade done the task (the "future" Task that shoko's teacher give) So the future be different. And the mai and sakuta scene is the future that shoko want (somehow sakuta and may still meet and all of the weird thing in s1 happen. I mean of course its happen without shoko's and sakuta's meeting cause that the path of future that shoko took) and somehow sakuta can remmember shoko (all the memory that happen with her , he can remmember although they didnt meet. I think its cause sakuta go to the pass in the movie to save himself) and shoko still alive cause the film that may san play people get sympathetic and someone donate his heart for shoko. sorry if my english bad, im not good at it

Shouko proceeds to change the past where she never met Sakuta (she went back to the past when she was asleep). That's why the next day they don't remember Shouko but still remembers the whole situation like how Sakuta merged into one, because Shouko already change the past where she never met Sakuta. When Sakuta met dying Shouko, meaning by Asleep is that Shouko died that day and that took her back to the past and redo everything without getting Sakuta and Mai involved. Thats why she promised Sakuta that she'll spare him from the pain by not getting involved with him. Thats why back to the new present, Sakuta and Mai didnt got to know Shouko at all, same timeline happened but of course a small change in the timeline can lead to different events and one of that is Mai taking a role in a movie which raised charity for patients that needs organ donors and thankfully Shouko was one of those who benifit from it. So Shouko battled on her own and managed to survive in the new timeline she created after she died. But of course for some unknown reason as well, it flashes back to Sakuta when she saw Shouko at the beach remembering what all happened, good thing that Shouko is aware of it too. Soon Mai would know it as well. That made all of them free from Puberty Syndrome.

I saw the movie in a theater & when Mai got hit by the car, I can tell you there wasn’t a dry eye there. Even after watching the movie, I never thought it was the conclusion to the series. I still feel like I have more questions than answers. Thankfully, the story will continue, although I don’t know if it’ll be a movie or tv sequel.

I just watch this movie.. I have to admit, I usually cry in silence when watching sad stuff but this movie is the first ever movie to had me Sobbing like a baby (You guys should check out this anime "I want to eat your pancreas" if you guys haven't already)

Bruh I'm happy because I get to see both mai and shoukou live. But I'm pissed for one reason its the website anime club, I was watching the movie at the part where mai san got hit by the car, my jaw was dropped and it paused and said you need premium or some bs, so I didn't get to see the ending until I saw these guys reaction which is great.

I dont know who went to the past either shoko or sakuta my bet is on shoko when she was "asleep" in the operation room and she said so herself that she will fixed the past so she never meet him to make him forget all the bad memories with her, she changed the past so that shoko never meet sakuta, that is why mai doesnt remember her clearly but so does sakuta, but my guess is the "past" mai remember shoko but not clearly as to why she want to take the donor girl role film, to help raise awarness for donoring heart and that is why shoko is alive, and when they met each other at the beach all the memories are flooded in, that's my theory

When makinohara fell asleep in the hospital, what he did was go to the past and change everything, so in the end it looks like Sakuta begins to remember everything because he is forgetting it since Shouko changed his past, that's why when Sakuta looks at her he does not know, but then all the timelines come together and that's when they both remember everyone. I am waiting for the second season which has already been confirmed for this year if I remember correctly.

The reason why I loved this anime, was because it was so close to reality and yet so far from it... If anyone reads this in the future that is... It'll be a little long but if anyone sees this, please try to understand.... The anime part: In the start (of the series and not the movie) we saw Mai's syndrome, which is basically how we sometimes want to cease being noticed by people, and if we actually think about it, nobody wants it to really happen. Yet, here in this series we see stuff like that happening, all the syndrome's are how your brain/heart actually feels, like Kaede felt like someone was physically hurting her, when she read those texts, and that became the reality. The close-to-reality part: Unlike anime like Dragon Ball series, Naruto series and MOST of the anime series, where it is almost the golden answer always comes out no matter how hard it is, like you neither lose your close ones, neither do you lose your nor do you lose an innocent person, meanwhile in this anime, they showed that it is not always possible to get golden way out, you can't see/have only the good side of a coin (more like yin and yang, every good has a bad, and every bad has a good i.e, you can't observe only the good side neither can you observe only the bad side). But yeah the ending again became the anime, but this was and will always be one of the best emotional rollercoaster of an anime forever........
