Thoroughbreds are my most favorite breeds! This episode brought back so many happy childhood memories. My parents leased a retired race horse for me when I was a child, and she was the kindest most caring horse I ever had the pleasure of knowing. I miss her to this very day!

My last mare who I evented with was QH/TB. Had the speed of a thoroughbred and the agility of a Quarter horse. She could turn on a dime and give you 9 cents change. Thoroughbreds are a great breed.

Secretariat raced in 1973 and still holds all 3 of the Triple Crown track records. He was a gorgeous chestnut, still miss him. I live in Ohio so Kentucky is a neighbor. Beautiful state.

not only marwari even kathiyawari horses also have curved ears which touch and makes heart shape. both indian breeds. Kathiyawari known to be much more tough, though little shorter

Lots of the big horses at my Pony Club are Thoroughbreds. They look very cheeky, but they are very good at dressage and jumping. From Laura :-)

Wow! Brought me back to Jonabell when it was a private home. I do commissioned animal portraiture and visited to photograph reference of 2 dogs there, among many other area clients around Lexington. Many of those client's walls held framed halters of syndicated TB's, high end portraiture and sculpture and fine art. My husband and I were treated to private tours of Darley Farms to shoot reference for paintings for the Cross Gate Gallery. Quite an experience over several years, but I was always happy to return to my little farm and muck my stalls.

The three stallions were the foundation for the modern Thoroughbred. There were already English Thoroughbreds whose pedigrees went far back. The English Thoroughbred mares were who they crossed the three oriental sires on to get the ancestors of our Thoroughbred of today.

It must be great to visit that unique park.🥰 Also so special you could ride on those retired racehorses. So nice to know a retiringhome for those horses. New vocation is a project witch should have so many more of them. That's such a good solution for ex racehorses.👍

Ohhh...I thought you were going to have the chance to go flat out on your thoroughbred! I was raised in the KY Bluegrass. Now that I live in NY, I know I'm almost home on the drive down, when I start seeing those miles of fence...and when I turn left at Keeneland. :)

I have two type horses for riding purposes.One a black and white Paint,the other the Quarter horse.They are pleasure horses,that love just hanging out with me,but, actually eating is their favorite thing to do. I can't even imagine not having horses after being a horse lovers for forty-two years now. Now, being at age 68,riding and being with my horses is my favorite thing in life.

I have been a member of the Secretariat Fan Club since it's beginning. I'm just starting this video so I hope he's mentioned. He's considered the most perfect thoroughbred ever seen. His Belmont race is for the ages.

I have ridden two thoroughbreds, one was a retired race horse, the other one never raced and was used as a show jumper. They were both very sweet and well behaved. I went hacking on both, and allowed them to really stretch in their own pace, the speed was INSANE. I have mostly ridden European warmbloods, so I felt like a jet pilot. Amazing breed. Without Darley, Byerley and Godolphin - no thoroughbred as we know them today. Without the thoroughbred - no sport horse breeds as we know them today. But I must admit - I am really not a fan of horse racing.

What about the German breeds? Hanoverian, Holsteiner, Westfalen, Takehner, have you tried any of them?

You really notice the difference in a thoroughbred when you canter them, especially in a straight or a gradual incline on a good surface, they have more gears and sometimes no brakes until they get tired, so if they are fit and the rider is riding out of the saddle over their centre of gravity , that might not be for a while. But one should not use their upper gears if you are trying to rehab them for a new role- its not fair to confuse them.

My APHA gelding has a thoroughbred body at 16.3 hands. He’s smart but stupid at the same time. He crowds and various other things I’m working out of him. “Pay attention to me, not whatever in the distance “. He knocked one petite owner flying with that habit. My main hirer is my Tennessee Walker mare. My sister had her and sold her to someone with too many horses and no knowledge of how to ride a Walker. We saw them at the horse park and my sis had to adjust tack and after they complained Glory wouldn’t gait, sis rode her and she gaited right out. The owner eventually needed to downsize and asked my sister if she wanted the mare back-for free. No, but she knew I did. I had to re-teach the mare some manners and now all is well. Love my big boy, too. Quite a few say don’t keep him, he’s dangerous. Every horse can be dangerous. Tying him to a tree (tree therapy) and walking away doesn’t really help the problem with him panicking cause he’s not with his buddies. Funny how he can be a big baby if you give him a job and scratch on him and give him love too.

Just an FYI, almost 40mph is an average speed at the Kentucky Derby that includes the process of getting up to speed all the way to the race finish. In reality they’ll occasionally hit speeds up to 45mph when they hit their final sprint. Only the finest Thoroughbred horses are capable of these speeds 😉

As much as I love these videos and the fact that they have so much amazing information, this video was making the racing industry out to be an amazing, loving industry, (which it is not). I think that being this video was based on Thoroughbreds and racing, the real side of the industry needs to be brought to attention and people need to know the truth about what goes on behind closed doors in this industry. From the horses being started way too young, to the amount of deaths PER DAY on the track.. I could go on but the truth needs to be exposed in videos like this and the industry has got to STOP being glorified or the abuse will simply never end..

These horses are the lucky few, and I'm happy you enjoyed your time with them. The racing industry uses horses for making money, and when they don't, horses go to slaughter. I'm sorry, it's just the way things are. 😞

OTTBs make an awesome barrel horse, once they learn there is more to riding life than a wide left turn at a high rate of speed!

One of the fastest? It is the fastest. On short distances a Quarter Horse is faster, but soon after the TB outruns him.

If you want distance and speed, you get a thoroughbred. If you want distance at a trot you get an Arabian 😉

I love thoroughbreds, but akhal teke are my favorites. I love to see the horseraces, but... It is in certain way horse abuse. Because they start to race at 2y till 4,5years old. A horse becomes adult from +/-3 to 4years. So at 3 years they could be starting with training, not with racing. But the fact is that they are faster between 2- 4,5yo. And most money comes from procreations, more than from the race. Most racemares are sold with obligation to kill them after raceage. So the breeder can breed, but the people who bought a mare can't breed. A colt or stallion is diferent, i believe. It's heartbreaking that such beautiful horses are killed. So many people would like to have a horse like that for recreation or other horsesports. I follow a lafy in UK who bougt a racehorse witch is now an eventing horse and crosscountry. The big problem is that the race sport is the one who recieve most money. In other sports with horses the winner don't has the same money from the cost. I don't include the breeding in those sports. But such nice places that you are showing, and such beautiful horses. It must be a big sensation to ride on a famous horse who won already half a million $. But i think people should be more horsefriendly to the racehorses when they aren't used as racehorse, like the one you were riding. A horse with 5 years is only beginning his live as an adult. 😰

Horse racing is a very cruel and abusive industry. The horse's skeleton isn't fully mature yet, which is why so many racehorses break their legs and have to be put down. I wish you would have visited a racehorse rehabilitation farm instead of a horse racing farm.

They are beautiful but the ones that can’t fun fast enough mostly end up as dog meat.......there are too many being bred
