It is always fascinating where in the world you can find German model train layouts. Although we know that model railroading is an international hobby, the assumption is that American model railroaders build American model railroads, British railway modellers build British model railways and German railfans build German miniature worlds. But this assumption is not really true! However, in this video Pilentum Television presents the superb model rail layout build by Ignacio O'Callaghan, a steam locomotive and railway enthusiast from Barcelona in Spain, who loves German model trains.
Ignacio is a pharmacist and is available to his customers in his pharmacy from morning to night. After closing time, he dives into his little miniature world in HO scale, which is 3.7 meters long and 1.2 meters wide. On this nearly five square meters, he has built a beautiful German model railway layout that impresses with its particularly excellent track plan and with its rich details. The track plan is based on a simple dog-bone layout design, but was constructed with the help of several loops (horseshoe curves) to create a special visual effect: Although model trains depart in the same direction, it appears as if the trains are circulating in the opposite direction.
Spanish railroad history definitely also offers rich topics for rail transport modeling, but Ignacio has focused on German railways and railroads. He has named the train station in his miniature world “Waldburg”, which is based on a train station in Southern Germany. The other buildings are designed in Prussian style. The rolling stock consists of steam locomotives and trains from epoch II and epoch III, i.e. “Deutsche Reichsbahn” (German Reich Railways) and “Deutsche Bundesbahn” (German Federal Railway).
Ignacio has installed many other typical rail buildings on his model train layout, such as a multi-track train station, a train depot with engine shed and turntable, and a realistic landscape. Finally, the focus is not necessarily on authentic train compositions and train sets, but on lots of rail traffic along horseshoe curves, tunnels and loops.
Please note, Ignacio has used “Pilentum’s Upload Service” to show us his model railroad layout and to share his enthusiasm for model trains with us. Any follower of Pilentum Television can submit videos to present his model railway layout to an international audience, for free.
