😲 One of the greatest rides you will ever see at the Cheltenham Festival!

Corach Rambler came from the rear of the field to score an unlikely victory in the 2022 Ultima Handicap Chase at Cheltenham.
Derek Fox produced the Lucinda Russell-trained eight-year-old with a incredible late run to land the spoils in cosy fashion, going away.
Fox was patient on the 10-1 shot after being slowly way due to the standing start. Corach Rambler only had one horse, Belargus, behind him in the early stages of the three-mile-one-furlong stamina test.
He still had more horses in front than behind him at the top of the hill, but he made relentless progress on the downhill section of the course to challenge the two leaders, Gericault Roque and Oscar Elite, at the final fence.
That pair looked to have the race between them but Fox had other ideas and Corach Rambler came between them in the closing stages to win by two and a quarter lengths from Gericault Roque. Oscar Elite was a head away in third with Tea Clipper eight lengths back in fourth.

Rambler and Fox were weaving through traffic like it was a Nascar Race. I love to see horse and rider, working their way to the front, and then come charging past the leaders: to Win. Beautiful !

Brilliant but no surprise to anyone who saw his ride on One for Arthur in the National (imo the best national ride ever), and the ride on Arthur in the Warwick chase the Jan before when he nearly got brought down at the second. Fox is a fantastic judge of pace and unafraid to save energy (at the expense of a little distance) by going wide on better ground

I backed him because of the jockey, IMO probably the best consistently, he had not ridden at Cheltenham festival 2022 until this. He had been riding at other meetings and I believe it was his only mount there.

Right on ! How on Earth would you predict he'd win from half a mile out. Just hacked the first circuit then motored on the second. I laughed when they passed the winning post first time. The horse looked over to something on the outside of the course ... maybe the stables ... before jockey Derek Fox corrected him. I imagine the horse said 'Hey Del Boy, I'd quite like to run over there !'

The horse didn't know he was in a race until 4 out, the jockey worked hard when the weaving started and the relentless galloping did the rest

the jockey has to know how to pace the horse so there's enough Go at the end for the sprint home. The horse has to trust the jockey

Jockey has to navigate the horse through big fields. Manage the jumps judge pace and understand intuitively when to push on or hold depending on horses capabilities. It's a combination of trainer horse and Jockey trusting distance ground and talent of breeding

Only winner I backed at last year’s Festival, but as satisfying as any I can remember and paid for the week nonetheless. Shades of McCoy on Wichita Lineman if you ask me

Some comments on here about how all the jockey did was scrub and push an outpaced horse who jumped poorly at times. Then putting up AP on Wichita Lineman as the best ride😏. Most watchers of the sport will know that getting a "thinker" to win is far harder, so JT on Rith Dubh obviously trumps them both.

having ridden work it seems that.assume " oh , just another " gallop ".until.it becomes time to.be ' requested ' to overtake those coming back to.them.& that instinctive desire we often watch in the paddock at home , to lengthen stride , quirk. one ear back to ensure no.one overtakes , . Whether the race course , eventing , even dressage arena that instinctive understanding.that tells them.they achieved what they have been bred to.guve us .
