What's the weather like in Detroit right now? Cuz if it's not giving you goosebumps... this episode might. (zipzipzip rewind sound effects)
It’s October 14th 2006. We’re at Comerica Park in Detroit for game four of the ALCS between the Tigers and the Oakland A's. Detroit, leading the series 3 games to none, is eager to celebrate, but might not get to tonight. Because it's tied in the bottom of the ninth, with two outs.
For both teams, getting this close to the World Series is an accomplishment, but also, not enough. To fully understand why fans' hearts are in throats, fists are clenched, and prayers are streaming from the religious and nonreligious alike, we gotta rewind. (zipzipzip rewind sound effects)

One of the best sports related days of my life. I was an RA at Central Michigan University and everyone in the dorm I worked in was watching that game. When Magglio hit that the whole place erupted. A whole building full of 18 and 19 year olds who had never EVER had a playoff baseball team to root for. Doors slammed. People screamed. People cried. I got to know a lot of those folks for real that night. Go Tigers. Magglio forever.

Those A's of the early 2000s deserved so much better in the postseason, especially in 2002 and 2003. The 2006 team overperformed, with an amazing Frank Thomas season, the rotation was stacked with Zito on his last year, alongside Harden/Haren/Loaiza... and then everything imploded because of the Billy Beane/Ken Macha spat during this series. Hopefully, the A's and Tigers can get back on the winning ways and deliver us more playoff series, like they did back in 2012 and 2013.

They were one hit wonders that took advantage of the poor AL during the 2015 season. They wouldn't have gone to the 2014 WS if the A's don't trade Céspedes. And yes. The 2002 and 2003 teams deserved better than the ALDS exits. Especially in 2003, they didn't sweep the Sox in Boston because of the awful umpiring.

I’ll always remember this game. My whole family was watching it at my grandparents house. I thought I was bad luck, so I stepped out of the room to get ice when Magglio hit this shot. We all started going absolutely insane. One of the greatest sports memories in my lifetime

Great video. I would love to see a Rewinder on Evgeny Kuznetsov's overtime winner against the Pittsburg Penguins in 2018. There's a lot to go over. The Penguins coming off back to back Stanley Cups, and the way the Caps could not escape the second round for so many years, the long wait Caps fans had for Kuznetsov to come over from Russia, Kris Letang's turnover, the amount of depth the Caps had lost in the offseason coming off a President's Trophy, and much more.

Yes yes yes. Game 162 of the 2012 season, please!! That season was pure magic. A bunch of misfits that were predicted to lose over 100 games ended up winning 14 games on walk-offs, taking the tough AL West over the two-time defending AL champs Rangers and the Pujols/Trout-led Angels. Give us something good Secret Base, pretty please!!

Nothing positive since 1990. This is the best A's team in 30 years and we all know they were the WORST of those A's teams from 2000-2006, just got lucky against a Twins team that hasnt won a playoff series and 1 win since... the A's in 2002.

Growing up in metro Detroit, I was a huge into baseball and the Tigers because of my Dad. We called them the Cardiac Cats because they'd comeback at the last minute throughout the 06 season. Dad's health started to go down hill by fall and he passed from cancer literally 10 days before this moment. I like to think he had gotten a front row seat watching this from the top of the scoreboard kind of like Al from Angels in the Outfield. This was the team that reminded me what hope was when i needed it most. Bless you, boys. ❤️🤝

I remember watching this series as a little kid and thinking the Tigers would wipe the floor with whoever won the NLCS. Too bad that untimely errors and Guitar Hero messed things up for the Tigers. They could’ve won about 3 titles between 2006 and 2014

On Friday the 13th, 2006, at age 12, I went to bed excited to wake up the next morning and spend all day on my PS2 and watch the Tigers win the Pennant. My Uncle Tim had tickets to the game against the As and was going to celebrate after the Win like he always does. He’s a big MSU, Cowboys, and Detroit Tigers fan so having one shared team in common that we all rooted for was nice (I’m an MSU fan but my dad-his brother-is a Notre Dame fan). Then, everything changed when my grandpa passed away on the night of Friday the 13th, which we didn’t know about until the following morning around 6 am. We drove to Jackson in tears and my Uncle sold his tickets to the game so we could all tend to and mourn for my Grandpa. Most of us were in tears all the way through the bottom of the 9th, when Monroe hit that single and Polanco followed with another. And when Mags hit that 3 run homer, I cracked a very small smile for the very first time that day, only to go back into tears shortly after. Needless to say, the day the Tigers celebrated their ALCS victory was very bitter sweet for me.

I'll never, ever forget this moment. Was in my freshman year of high school, at dinner at a country club in West Michigan with my then girlfriend. It was the night of my homecoming dance, so I hadn't been paying attention the game until about 30 seconds before this happened. Some guy called out 'It's all on this!' and everyone stopped to watch. The moment Maggy crushed it, the place ERUPTED. Old and young alike were yelling and hugging, it was a wild experience. I was too young to understand the significance, but gaaaahdamn was it an awesome moment

I distinctly remember this moment: sitting at the Westway Diner, across from my sister and dad, just days after the Mets lost a heartbreaking Game 6 that might've sent them to the World Series too. There was a TV in the diner airing the game. We were just given our salads, and my dad, who was listening to the radio at the time, suddenly uttered "Home Run." Moments later, Maggs hits the walk-off. It's little moments like this that makes me truly appreciate sports. Doesn't matter where you are or what you're doing: you'll always remember where you were when certain moments in sports history occurred. And this one will always stick with me for that very reason.

I loved Magglio's game and this run and his comeback in general was one of those things in life that shows a person who needs a sign that life can be special and magnificent and beautiful all crammed together... and that all was translated and presented to the world through the church of baseball. It's a game that, in many facets, can be a microcosm or lessons for life's many struggles that with dedication and perseverance can be conquered or straight up transcended. These are the things that build a person stronger when they see them through to the other side of it. What a Tigers team that was.

This moment will always make me choke up. I was 10 years old downstairs with my late father watching the game. When the ball left Magg's bat we knew we would get to watch our beloved Tigers play in the world series. Considering 3 years prior we had 100+ loses and just stunk as a team. We never believed we would get to see them play in the post season let alone the world series together before the cancer took him a couple of years later. Thank you Magg's for giving me that moment with my dad, you will always be my favorite Tiger.

I was in the barbershop watching this. My dad was at home watching. I sat in the chair and said..."Come on Mags. Crush this fu*king thing.". I'll be damned if he didn't. I jumped up and went home to celebrate with him.. without a haircut. 😅 My dad passed two years later. Still one of my favorite memories with him.

I love fox’s broadcast when it happened but tigers radio Dan Dickerson had the fckn call of all time. “A swing and a A fly ball to left field, that’s deep!!!!! ITS WAYYYY BACK!! Oh dude…….I’ll never forget that day. I was 12, I remember playing whiffle ball with friends before the game. Went to my friends house to watch his family had a ton of people over for it. When he walked off everyone was going nuts. I’ll never forget that moment. Nothing better than a walk off to go to the World Series.

I was living in England at the time, and because of the time difference I wasn't able to watch much baseball. I had time for this game though, and as an outfielder myself in high school I had a soft spot for guys like Magglio Ordonez; on top of that, the Tigers were absolutely electric that season and so much fun to watch even if you weren't a fan. I was able to catch the last few innings of this game, and I remember watching this at-bat thinking to myself, "He's going to do it. Ordonez is going to take the Tigers to the World Series NOW!" And then he did. One of my favorite outfielders that I remember seeing play had an immaculate hero moment that he absolutely deserved to have. He didn't even play for my favorite team, but as a baseball fan I loved seeing him do as well as he had.

As an Oakland A’s fan, this game was gut wrenching. I remember staying silent as I watched this live game live. However the Tigers dominated the the ALCS as went into this game 3-0. So the A’s had no chance on coming back. This game was just a nail in the coffin for the 2006 A’s season.

As a Twins fan I remember this year very clearly. I was at game 162 and 163. Beating the Tigers felt like winning it all but I was also glad they did what was unthinkable to my mind at the time. So perhaps there is hope for my Vikings someday...

As a Red Sox fan, wanted the Tigers to win that year as they were 3 years removed from nearly losing 120 games. Luckily Verlander fell into them as Padres made one of the biggest blunders in draft day history in the draft in 2004.

The Athletics and Tigers used to be strong teams, but it's a shame that these two teams haven't been able to win a championship since the 1990s. In particular, the 2006 World Series, in which the Tigers lost to the Cardinals, is still impressive.

I remember eating in a little Mexican restaurant during the game. Everyone was crowded around the little TV there and when Magglio hit that, the place just exploded. Definitely a memory I’ll never forget

Life long Tigers fan, I remember that Jim Leyland "pep talk" they are referring to. They dropped a game on a Sunday and to paraphrase what Leyland said to the media, they "had their heads up their assess" and were "more concerned about getting on the plane to Oakland that they were the ****ing game." Tigers I think went on to sweep the next series of I remember, and then hung 16 runs in 1 game on the Royals in the next weekend, if I recall.

I remember watching this at my birthday party at the bowling alley and celebrating with my friends when magglio hit the HR. we even named our cat maggie after him!

I was a little kid when this happened, so I haven't thought about it in a while, but I remember that year my family's TV was somehow messed up in a way that made it so we had static on the main screen, but we could watch just fine in the picture in picture, so I watched that whole playoffs sitting right next to the screen. It's too bad the Tigers couldn't get it done in the World Series.

considering this is where Detroit sports peaked (minus the Lions of course) leading into the Red Wings winning the cup 2 years later then losing the cup, it was nice to relive some nostalgia from long ago, Pistons won it in 04, Tigers went to the Series and lost in 06 and the Wings won it in 08 and it all fell apart right after the Tigers lost the Series again in 12, please we need help our only hope is the Lions....

Just as epic as this HR, on this very night I was at cedar village apartment party in East Lansing playing beer pong. There was one red solo cup left. I launch a high archer and call “Magglio!” In tribute to the moonshot we witnessed hours earlier. My shot was dead on target and sank the last cup. Cheers, adulation and my new nickname, Magglio, rang out. I peaked that night, I’ll never fly that high again. Side note, I was wearing my Granderson T-shirt. Tigers forever baby.
