LYRICS
I know they don't like me that much
Guess that I don't dress how they want
I just wanna be myself I
Can’t be someone else
Try to color inside their lines
Try to live a life by design
I just wanna be myself I can’t be someone else
They yell, they preach
I’ve heard it all before
Be this, Be that
I’ve heard it before
Heard it before
Chorus:
Big boys don’t cry
Shoot low, aim high
Eat up, stay thin
Stand-out fit-in
Good girls don’t fight
Be you dress right
white face tan skin
Stand-out fit-in
Lately it’s been too much all day
Words shot like a cannon at me
I just wanna be myself I
Can’t be someone else
They yell they preach
I’ve heard it all before
Be this Be that
I’ve heard it before
Heard it before
Big boys don’t cry
Shoot low Aim high
Eat up Stay thin
Stand-out fit-in
I am who I am
No matter what
never changing
no matter what

I'm American, but this song still speaks to me a lot. It's a very relatable and important song for today's world. I have struggled with not fitting in , and I've felt like such an outsider, one of those quiet kids who walk around in the presence of the popular people. There's nothing wrong with that, but it makes you feel more lonely. I love some of their songs (I don't do a lot of hard rock, so I like certain ones more), and they have so many relatable and important themes.

Great song! This lyric really got me. "I am who I am no matter what Never changing no matter what No matter what". Remember OOR Ambitions Japan Tour? When they was playing "we are" taka said this “Never ever think “I wish I could become someone else”. You are YOU! Don’t blame others or run from your dream. Look at yourself! Don’t have anxiety. You are capable of so many things! Put your hand to your heart and think “what is it I want to do the most?” From tomorrow, you’ll definitely be able to achieve it. Go for it!!!”. Godspeed for all of us.

This really hits me deep, because in my childhood I grew up in a neighborhood with a very low Asian population. My elementary school had only a total of 3 Asian kids including myself. Kids can be relentlessly cruel. Some of them made fun of my eye shape and others would tell me to go back to China (I'm not Chinese). I'm so glad I moved away and found a place where I belong and can be myself.

if you've moved away, that means you didn't fit in. that's what the problem with this world. People live in a diverse world or country, but still, they live in their own community. that's why racism (prejudice) will never end. I like this MV cause the Asian boy eventually blends in.

wingsofphire Even though I am a white American this song touched me because I am from a small town in Alaska and Alaska has a completely different culture than the rest of the United States. It was hard to live in new state, people would call me strange, and the Alaskan values that I cherish where laughed at and I never, even now in my adult life, felt like I belong. So I relate to the different Ethnic groups who live as Americans but aren’t recognized as one. This song has a great message but the music video is even more powerful. Beautiful!

Why can we just start to show some more interest and love and accept the new things?? I don't think that's a hard thing to do. And thank you ONE OK ROCK and the supporters for creating amazing music as ALWAYS. You guys are my heroes and inspiration. Stay being amazing.

I was born and raised in America but I’m Mexican and I’ve experience a lot of bullying in my time in school from elementary till I graduate from high school. Elementary and middle school was mainly cuz I was Mexican. They were about 5 Hispanic in the entire school. In high school there were more Hispanic there but I was still bully if I was the only Hispanic in there. I was also bullied by the Hispanic girls cuz I hung out with the guys. I’m a tomboy and all my neighbors on my street are boys so I grew up with them so I felt more comfortable with them. The girls never understood that so they always picked on me. ted yancey I was born and raised in America but my parents are from Mexico so I’m Mexican but yes I do consider myself American but the point was I was bullied for my race and looks. And in High school I was bullied by the Hispanic girls cuz I wasn’t like them and I was around the boys. They also picked on me cuz my Spanish wasn’t that good. Yes I’m Mexican who doesn’t speak Spanish well enough but that’s because I grew up speaking English. my parents wanted to learn more English so I grew speaking more English than Spanish. But luckily I did my best to keep up my Spanish despite I do have a accent when I talk. I’m proud to be an American but I’m also proud to be Mexican.

This hits way close to home, as an Asian kid I’ve always felt embarrassed, ashamed, and judged. I feel as most of the time, people avoid talking to me. People say discrimination towards asians is “okay” but it’s racism in every way, not being able to feel accepted, being the weird kid in class, being one of the quiet unpopular kids. It was very hard for me to cope when I was suffering anxiety, and trauma, I felt most of the time alone in this big wide world, my culture was the reason why I’m alone and so on. But moving forward I will fight even if the roads are rocky, embrace my culture even if it’s embarrassing. I know I won’t be able to do everything perfectly. But I’ll try.

even though i'm not the biggest fan of their musical change, their message has never changed. be yourself. live your life. be proud of who you are. only you are the master of your own destiny. no matter how the packaging has changed, their core has always stayed the same. with that, they'll always be the OOR i know and love.

This video and song/lyrics made me tear up when reflecting on what I went through as an asian child in a westernized community. I can’t help but look back on it with guilt. I regret having been ashamed of my own ancestry, embarrassed by my own family and I wish I had never rejected aspects of my culture or even ethnicity. Thankfully as middle school passed I worried less and less about fitting in. I fortunately grew out of it in high school and have become a me who is proud to be who I am. Children try so desperately to fit in as it is in human beings’ nature to try to not be ostracized by their own community/society. I hope that as more and more representation in the media happens, there’ll be less and less mocking, as there are more asian figures to look up to with pride. One day hopefully we will all be seen as just normal people with different (not weird) backgrounds and cultures.

This song really got me. Tears are annoying my vision. As an Asian born in a country in Latin America, I can relate the experience of being excluded. About being obligated to change just to fit in a society that you didn't chose to be. Life was hard, and sometimes it still is. But not because people treat you like this, you need to stop trying. I was lucky to have friends (sadly not my family) for me to show me that my tiny world was not as terrible as I though. Is true, while growing up I changed just to fit in, but I also showed them who I really was. Not someone that everybody expected me, with all the Asian stereotype or other traits, but myself.

I've never been this proud of a band, or a mv, until this very moment. I'm an asian myself and although I never really went through this because I grew up in an asian community, I know how hard it can be because I know plenty of people who have gone through this and have thrown away their culture just to fit in within society. I actually teared up a bit when I saw the guy finally accepting his culture, I was so proud of him. This struggle isn't a dream or something out of a novel you guys. This is real and people do go through this. Not only is the person suffering, but so is the parents and family. Honestly seeing the parents in pain reminds me of my own parents. I probably have done so many stupid things regarding my own culture that must have made my parents so sad. I never realised the shit they had to go through in order to let me live here in Canada so I could have a better life and all I probably did in return was add onto the list of shitty things. If you're an asian or really, any culture out there , don't be afraid or embarrass of who you are. If you're the minority, it might be hard, but what's so bad about being different? You're your own person. You're unique. You're special. You might look different, speak a different language, eat different things, have different traditions, but no matter what, I think that is what makes a person beautiful. If you're struggling out there or gave up on your culture, don't, because that's who you are and you should be proud of it. Let people laugh if they want. They don't know what their missing out if their losing the chance to be friends with someone different and if you give up, then you wouldn't know of the other world you could have experience because you turned away from it. You go One Ok Rock!! Love the message
