Join us as we meet one of the living legends of Japanese car tuning and JDM car culture. As the founder and president of perhaps the most iconic and important aftermarket company for Honda sports cars, 'Spoon Sports' is a name that stands out amongst others. The philosophy of total balance and reliability yet providing exhilaration and huge fun factor is the core ethos of this small but influential tuner. It's unique commitment to following the racing spirit of Honda themselves, taking it to a higher level of refinement seen in F1 and high level racing and by using Honda OEM suppliers for parts to ensure reliability is what made 'Spoon' a respected and reputable brand even by non Honda owners. It is this simple but strict discipline to the finer arts of car tuning that is adopted by enthusiasts who realise the importance of 'drivable performance'.
We had the privilege to have a personal interview with the Tatsuru Ichishima, the JDM Grandmaster in Sodegaura Circuit during one of Spoon's testing for parts development. We get his thoughts and advice on what are the important things to do and look our for to prepare your car for a track day or spirited driving. This was a rare chance to hear directly from Ichishima san whose vast experience as a racing driver and developer of some of the best aftermarket parts. Our crew member @aonaminnie also had a chance to ride along him in his personal Honda S800 in Hakone during a shoot with Spoon's restored project Civic Type R EK9.
Enjoy this one!

Spoon represents the ideal balance of performance and practicality: their experience in the field of racing ensures the highest standards for performance, and their commitment to Honda's core philosophy of quality and practicality means that they also acknowledge the functionality that is synonymous with the brand's image. As a result, the driver sacrifices nothing. It's this complete approach that I find very inspiring.

@@ArtVandelayOfficial you’re right! Lol. Their performance parts are well worth the price because you’re getting great quality, but some of their accessories are wildly overpriced when you see the same part made by a different aftermarket manufacturer for a much lower price.

I do not own a honda nor will I probably ever own one, but Tatsuru certainly is someone worth listening to. He knows his stuff. Thanks for making this video Bradford and everyone else who was involved. If there is one aspect that might require fine tuning, it would be audio-balance in the intro-section. The music is little bit too loud, it's bit difficult to make out what you are saying at the times. I hope we'll get to see you visit other tuning/manufacturing shops as well!

Thanks for the video. In a VTEC club Best Motoring feature some 10-15 years ago Ichishima made a categoric advise that the transmission fluid should be changed much more often than the engine oil. Seems his advice had changed now which may be a result of advancement in oils etc but I would've liked to have seen more questioning on the subject.
