John, I'm glad you opened up comments for your videos. I've always wanted to tell you how much I enjoy them and, even more importantly, how much I've learned from them. As a relatively new bow hunter, your beginner's videos were crucial to dialing things in. The silverback was the cure for my target panic early on and allowed me to eventually move to the nock2it. Anyway, Thanks again and keep em coming.

This is something I've been back and forth on. I've felt like I can see my pin so much better with the one eye.. but im more accurate with and im more stable and steady with 2. I'm dealing with double vision issues. I might try a blinder thing out. See how that works for me. Good video brother

Thanks for all you do, I began shooting 3 years ago and felt that watching you got me hitting the ground running and I can confidently say I'm a pretty f'n great shot at this point. All the form tips and the really important thing for an archer of getting your gear setup dialed in. Ha! I’am literally the weirdo that is left handed and left eye dominant but shoot a bow right handed and I struggle with both eyes wide open. I typically squint my left eye so it’s not trying to take the image over.

I’ll give it a shot, I’ve never been able to shoot with two eyes open.

John, got back into archery this year at 64 years old. Broke out my 2000 Bowtech Generation 3 three wheel, had new string put on it and bought some modern arrows. Tried my best to convince myself "I don't need a newfangled bow". Watched nearly all of your instructional videos some several times and wish you were around 22 years ago doing this!!!! Studied all you were posting, have practiced my ass off with quality vs quantity mindset and reached a plateau with the technology at hand. Decided to dive deep into researching a new bow and settled on a Hoyt Ventum Pro 33 and after hundreds of more arrows and heeding your instructions I cant be more pleased with my progress. This week I have accomplished and achieved several 3-4" 40 yard groupings that would have NOT been possible with my old Bowtech. Watching this video a week ago and shooting with both eyes open and your advice of concentrating on target downrange vs zeroing in on the pin has literally shrunk my groupings 100 to 150% in one week, just frigging amazing!!! BLESS you sir, you have made this way "easier" than it would have been nd I am now subscribed. Main goal for me is to be consistent with "minute of whitetail vitals" groupings. TAKE CARE, STAY WELL and BLESSINGS!!!

That trick of squinting your left eye, helps your brain pay attention to the right channel. Over time you can learn to do a slow wink of your left eye to eventually be able to just pay to what the eye is seeing. We had to this sort of stuff some of the instruments we use in optometry. Takes time though! We were practicing it daily.

I usually shoot both eyes open, but added the short squint after I started shooting in my basement. Turns out my focus shifts to my off eye about 1 in every 100 arrows. I never realized this at the range, but I learned real quick when I put a flyer into the drywall! Checked with my off eye on the next shot and sure enough my aim was dead center on the whole in the drywall.

I’m RH shooter with right eye dominance. That’s how I shoot recurve with no issue. Have always both eyes open. Target shooter only. When I started compound last year, during some close distance shooting I noticed that sometimes my arrows landed extreme left of the target. With the guidance of the proshop that time I learned that my left eye try to take over. When “successful” the arrows goes far left. And got the same hint: close the left eye during alignment/ initial aim but open again before finally aim. Once the right eye “locked” in it remain the dominant eye. That works perfectly fine for me also during the recent indoor/lower light condition. I got a blinder but can’t shoot with glasses through peep/scope and my head has not yet found a cap which fits.

I learned to do it just like John accidentally. Glad to know I'm on the right track. Thanks for all the videos... learning everything this way.

Your eyes are meant to work together. If you close one, you'll loose depth or field movement. If you have cross-dominance when shooting a squint (or half wink) from the dominant eye will allow your brain to balance your eyesight and compensate. Works for any kind of focus, bow, gun even artist do it without knowing when they focus on their thumb looking at something.

From my photography background I'm fine to shoot both eyes open 👌, right eye and handed.

I shoot EVERYTHING with both eyes open since I was a kid. (Now 51) That’s how I was always taught. Scoped rifles Handguns My bows Rifle with open sights.

I'm left handed and right eye dominant. I shoot with both eyes open and see two sights in view. I just concentrate on the set of pins on the right. Focusing on the target and letting the actual pin become out of focus.

Wow, I thought I was weird. I literally started doing the same thing for the same reason. I found out that with both eyes open it was taking a lot longer to acquire my target because I was distracted by the big picture so I started squinting. I think the most important thing though is to just be consistent, if you sight in with both eyes shoot with both eyes and vice versa, don't mix and match. For me it led to target panic.

Shoot with both eyes open with any weapon is the correct way if you can. Your missing half the picture with one eye. I shoot both eyes open with rifles with open sights and Scopes pistols the same thing or my bow

I start with one eye open to acquire my pin and bubble then open both eyes to get a good sight picture like when I shoot my pistols

I’m RH and cross eye dominant, I started into archery left handed right from the start. I shoot shotgun and rifle left handed and my job requires me to scan left handed, it just felt right to use a LH bow..

Do you put your focus on the pin or the target or the peep for that matter? I usually go down the line peep, pin, target and focus on the target. However makes my pin more blurry the further out you focus.

I struggled with this a few years ago. Now I shoot both eyes open but long draw duration can cause double vision, then I squint my left. Your foundation course has me stacking arrows at 50 yards, thanks.

Being left I eye dominant and right handed is challenge especially looking through a tiny peep only way is to close the left eye and my right is squinted to clear my vision up making hard as heck to get clear sight picture

I am right eye dominant at the same time my right eye vision is worse than left. So I have no choice but to shoot with both eyes open.

Should you always pull through your shot? I was always told your trigger hand should not move.

I used to shoot one eye open, but now I use both eyes open. It’s easy when you get the hang of it, and I think better. I used to ‘squint’, but don’t even need to do that anymore.

Hey, Thank for the tip. A quick on ( I am right hand dominant with Left eye dominant). What will be your tip? To get the RH bow and retrain for the left hand ( Same eye dominant), or shoot with both eyes with the dominant hand, and if so, can i move the sight - etc? Cheers!

I switched to shooting LH because of my eyes. Best decision I made. I can shoot with 2 eyes open finally. I also shoot my rifles with both eyes open

doesn't squinting change ligting isnt it easier to close an eye so you dont have shuttering light when aiming and less consistency

I'm right handed, left eye dominant and shoot left handed. Never heard heard of people shooting opposite their dominate eye. What's the rational for that?

I have to close my right eye then get on target then open my right eye.

When you talk about the "eclipse" I find it hard sometimes because my peep is so blury when centering it around my sight housing. What things cause the blurriness? Is it the size of the peep or distance between the peep and sight housing, distance of string to eye, or just a combination of things? I feel like I shouldn't have as much blurring as I do. The pin blur on target doesn't bother me. It's just the blur when lining up my peep and sight housing. Thanks!

What's a good pointer for someone who is right-hand dominate but they have a right eye that's lazy so they have a hard time focusing through the peep sight and the pins

Why four on fletching? I keep seeing these youtube commandos saying 4 isnt very good and you can see 3 putting a faster spin on arrow. Do a 3 Vs. 4 video if you can.

How to aim with out sing pin n pinhole in compound bow

Just getting into the sport, and have a Take down recurve with a 4 pin sight. But it's too high to aim with. I'm I doing something wrong? Can a recurve use a sight ring with pins?

Thank you for your videos and great products; they've been very helpful as I've recently begun my bow hunting adventure. I'm cross dominant (RH, LE) and shoot a right handed bow while closing or mostly closing my left eye. I don't favor the reduced field of view or the dimming effect especially in lower light conditions. With my primary goal to become a proficient bow hunter do you recommend I continue to hone my current technique or switch to a left handed bow? Thanks again!

Hey I have been teaching myself but I am still new to this what pointers give give me. I am using a recurve take down bow.

Quick question, I have been playing around with the backstrap. I seem to group high and left compared to regular trigger release. My theory is that when I’m pulling through my bow arm rides up and away, pulled off target by the back tension..any tips to better lock in my bow arm?
