"Got any problems with that, King of the Pirates?" is such a great moment on how Zoro shows his loyalty for Luffy for the first time. Too bad it's not included in the LA.

its actually one of my criticism in the LA is that this powerful line where Zoro acknowledge luffy as the pirate king and became loyal to him as he pledge to him. it was just one of the things i wish they included.

His name is Dracule "Hawk Eyes" Mihawk, w/the middle one being his title. 'Me' is Japanese for 'eye', so his name Mihawk essentially is a wordplay on Hawkeye

Zoro vs Mihawk is such a good fight, the moment the main characters realize till now they have been big fishes in a small pond! I was a bit disappointed in the LA Sanji didn't witness this fight (and Luffy vs Don Krieg to a lesser extent), cause it was a great developing moment for his character too since he had actually given up on his own dream due to the gratitude he felt for Zeff, and didn't think his own ambition mattered more than Zeff's own dream (the restaurant). Seeing Zoro ready to die for his own ambition shook him.

Yeah if sanji and the audience watched zoro lose it would have made zoros speech less cringe in the LA, since his loss would have felt more humiliating. they dropped the ball here with those changes

Yeah, I agree.. I'm sure they could've included it, had they not forced Koby into the entire season where he/she didn't belong. 32:19 was an important scene that should've been interwoven in the LA. Where Sanji reflects on what Zoro said, and yells at Zoro that he should give up his ambition/dream if it means saving his own life, and that it was an easy choice to make. Because it highlights where Sanji is at in that moment, because that's basically what he did, himself.

Lets clear this "Mihawk" issue you guys are somehow having so much trouble with His name is Mihawk (Pronounced "Me + Hawk", not "My + Hawk") He has eyes like a hawk. So they also call him "Hawk eye"

"Hawk-eye" is Mihawk's nickname or pirate name, like how some people refer to Luffy as "Straw Hat". I love how you guys are talking about how well thought out the details are. Just wait until you're hundreds of episodes in. That meticulousness never fades and only gets stronger. The writer of this series is beyond human when it comes to carrying tiny details across hundreds of chapters. He is a master of recontextualization. Small details you learn 1000 chapters later can change how you look at everything. It blows my mind

People have probably said before but all of Zoros 3 sword attack names are puns of food😆He is trying to say a cool edgy name but because he has a sword in his mouth it sounds like he's saying food dishes instead. Like his special attack Oni Giri, what he is actually saying is Oni Kiri (Demon slash) but because the sword is in his mouth he can't pronounce the K sound so it sounds like he's saying Oni Giri (Rice balls). 😂

If you go back to the Live Action and watch the very first part of Episode 1, where Ian McShane is narrating the opening, they close up on Loguetown shore and they show a bunch of pirate ships on the docks. Within the group of ships, you see one really tiny ship floating amongst the other ships. That is Mihawk's ship. He was there to witness Roger's execution and they do a shot of a young Mihawk with his wild sideburns. Edit: Oh and you are right. The anime has its goofy and ridiculous moments and the pacing can get very irritating some times, but when it hits (like the Mihawk vs Zoro fight), it knocks it out of the park. I prefer reading the Manga overall to watching the Anime, but I have to admit, some of the hardest hitting moments come from the Anime.

This episode is where majority of the fandom started to like one piece. After this was that nami episode. Once past that, one piece kept on getting better and better. Can you imagine,with each arc thinking it can't get any better, darker and darker, but it does! For 25+ years straight.. Thank you for your reactions ❤ love your analysis! I'm so glad you guys are enjoying it.😁😁😁😁 I think they did a great job with this fight in the LA, but the extra blood in the anime adds a lot to the experience since you have a better grasp of how much damage these guys are taking. Even when the small knife "pierces Zoro's heart" you can tell that must hurt like hell.

This is one of the things i miss in the live action, here Mihawk stabs Zoro on his heart side, and one more step will kill him and he doesnt retreat, but in live action, stabs him in the oposite site feeling less epic/dangerous

The reason why Zeff chose to eat his leg is very simple, he’s a chef. Sanji got that from him and uses his legs just like Zeff to fight in order to avoid hurting his hands which are meant to cook.

For those of you who like technical stuff... There's something peculiar between the anime and the live action about Kuina's (Zoro's childhood friend) death... In the anime/manga it's said that she had an accident at a ladder. At the live action this information is ommited. But there's a detail at her funeral when Zoro overcomes a ladder to reach her sword... I took it as a symbol of what he has to do for her from that moment onwards (like overcoming every challange that she can't anymore to reach the position of the best swordmaster).

I don't remember anything about a ladder. I watched the anime and read the manga the other day and it said stairs. It didn't say anything about a ladder.

@Gutslinger , I'm sorry, but english is not my first language... Thus, some stairs and a ladder are pretty much the same to me because in my first language there's a specific word for structures with footholds for climbing... After some research over those words, I don't really know why you make it so difficult... Stairs are fixed steps, ladders are movable steps that must be leaned to a wall and stepladders have no needs of external support... They are all steps, and a step is just a pace that climbs higher... The source is not in english and it wasn't even drawn in the manga, so what makes you so sure that it was some stairs and not a ladder? It is much more easy to suffer an accident with a ladder and die than with some stairs... I'll keep with "ladder" over "stairs"... Because ladders are more dangerous...

Sanji reflected on what Zoro said a few seconds earlier, and then basically says that Zoro should've given up on that ambition/dream if it'll save you, and that it's an easy choice.. And that's kinda highlighting Sanji's current position, because he currently has given up his dream/ambition to stay at that restaurant.

Today's episode vocabulary: kaizoku = pirate ou = king( a "u" after a o is like a prolonged o) ore = Me/I = (informal use by men) naru = become *_"Kaizoku Ou ni, Ore wa Naru" -> "King of the Pirates, I will become!"_* sekai = world saikyou = strongest kenshi = swordsman *_"Sekai saikyou no kenshi" -> "Strongest swordsman in the world"_*

I find it funny that while Zoro's name was, IIRC, inspiration from the Californian hero Zorro, it's Mihawk who actually has some of the aesthetics of the character. Or at least his alter ego Don Diego, I guess, lol. And then Oda crossed it with classic Dracula/vampire aesthetics, because why not. XD So for the Aniki/aneki: Aniki: older brother Aneki: older sister. it's often used for a type of a rough guy or yakuza lingo in fiction when the characters talk to someone respected. Not a boss or anything, but someone who the speaker thinks highly of. It's not usually used for actual family members. Johnny and Yozak have a way of speaking that gives off the vibe of yakuza underlings. It's really hard to translate so it's kind of lost in translation. It's not like it's a super important thing, but it's a fun detail.

I'm going to save you by not mentioning how to say Mihawk as I'm sure you are tired of it by now from me reading the comments. I will say that Dracule (Hawk-Eye) Mihawk is my favorite of The Seven Warlords. He's very wise and he was not even using 1/10 of his strength against Zoro. Man was just playing with him but I'm sure you guessed that.

It is Dracule “Hawkeye” Mihawk (pronounced Me-hawk) Hawkeye is a nickname due to his eyes and his skills as a hunter. Also you are correct. To cut down on time for the live action, they had Mihawk (Mee-hawk) fight him on the beach and defeat him there. In the anime Krieg escapes with very few of his men and we get the Baratie arc (Bah-rah-tee-eh, think French pronunciation). Hope you don’t mind me correcting your pronunciation of some of the names. :)

His name is Dracule Mihawk. Hawk Eye is one of his ephitet. Or the most known as The Strongest Swordman in the world. If you finished east blue, try to watch One Piece TV special East Blue. Its an episode only and recaping the esst blue saga. But with new and smother animation. Zoro vs Mihawk is really good in there.

Probably because the english language has very inconsistent phonetics when it comes to vowels. Each has multiple different ways ro be pronounced whereas other languages might only have 1. Maybr also because english speaking people are less exposed to other languages and their different sounds cause their language is spoken everywhere

The thing you must never forget...garp never sent mihawk...it was the most stupid thing the live action never did...they changed garp personnality entierly...they even spoiled his relation to luffy from the start when in the anime is was a hell of a twist 300 episodes later...they did shanks and garp wrong...
