As a OP fan who is currently watching the Anime Wano Arc this is easily THE BEST Shonen Jump Game I have ever played. It is easy but as a RPG it’s Top Tier. I can only hope Dragon Quest 12 reaches these heights.

Great game. I think the difficulty imbalance comes from enemies challenges that usually level you up 1-2 levels each time. Can't wait for the dlcs

I hope my lite familiarity of One Piece's story would be enough to make the game enjoyable to me if I ever do play this. I mostly only know of the early OP stuff, before they changed their looks/outfits.

I only watched the first two episodes of OP, you will have no problem. What the review doesn't mention is that there are narrated (one big manga page), that tells the story up to that point (about 7 of those in each main part of the game). So I don't really get the part of them saying hard for newcomers.

For those looking to catch up, read the manga instead of watching the anime. The current anime has high production value with select scenes of awesome animation (brilliant sakuga), but it has long suffered pacing issues.

Facts I always say for new fans who wanna catch up to just read the manga first so they can enjoy the anime at their own pace. It’s how I caught up when I first got into one piece around the cake island arc.

I decided to do this last year and it was definitely the way to go. Took me about 3 months to get fully caught up. Even though I'm not a particularly fast reader I was able to easily get through each volume in less than an hour. At over 100 volumes it's still a commitment, but it's pretty reasonable considering it's been running for over 25 years. To put it in perspective, I like to say that it take me less time to catch up on all of One Piece than it took me to beat Persona 5.

Watch the anime There's no reason to quickly rush and finish the series like it's a job or something. You're watching it for entertainment so if it's good then the more the better. Also the manga is very consistent in quality but it can never reach the peaks that the anime can offer due to the medium.

Tbh I kinda wish this game had the tales combat system. Turn base can be really fun and I enjoy it but for one piece it’s definitely better if I can fully control my character.

Maybe it's just the desert and the dungeon shown, but the exploration in the game really reminds me of Final Fantasy XII, in a good way. I'm not super up to date on my One Piece lore (I gave up a while ago, it was just too much to catch up on) but I might check this out anyway, seems fun.

You should just watch/read it anyway. It’s a good story. If the length is an issue, read it. Becomes a non issue at that point. Although take your time with it. Don’t read/watch it to “catch up”. Read/watch it at your own pace.

Okay should I finish watching the review. Finding time for 750 necessary catch up episodes is a gargantuan undertaking.

If you'd rather read the manga, you can get through the same content in under 25% of the time it would take to watch it. The Dressrossa arc ends in volume 80 and each volume takes less than an hour to read. You can get the whole manga for $3 a month if you don't mind reading it through Viz's website. If you're worried about the review spoiling the main series, I didn't see anything I would count as a spoiler. Maybe avoid it if you know absolutely nothing about One Piece and want to avoid seeing the characters that join Luffy's crew, but that's really the extent of it.

What does “Oda was involved” mean? He made some character designs for the original characters sure, but what did he do besides that? Was he just a yes-man like with all the films? I like the guy but project besides one piece like the films have all been mediocre so his involvement must be limited.

If you just want a great JRPG go for Dragon Quest, but for hardcore One Piece fans Odyssey is amazing. A bit like the South Park games the original voice actors and staying close to the anime designs makes it feel like you're playing an episode of the show at times.

This game is WAY TOO EASY, luckily PC modders are able to crank up the difficulty. With harder difficulty you need to actually strategize your gameplay and is much more fun! I’d give it a 8.5 if you’re able to make it a bit more challenging

Man, I was so down for a One Piece-flavored Dragon Quest knockoff, but I physically cannot, will not, watch 750 episodes just to understand what's going on in the story. Wishing this game all the best, but I'm out!

@@jinchuriki7022 _'Dub sucks in general'_ only apply if you still stuck at the 90's or early 2000. But nowadays english dub for video games are decent to great. Some of my favorite Japanese games like Nier Replicant & Automata, Persona, Catherine, MGS, RE, FF, Bayonetta, and Danganronpa have great english dubs.

I'm sure they're working extremely hard to get all the content they are already able to put out. They have a much smaller review team with Jones and Ben leaving in the last year and the other members have had to pick up extra roles like Brad taking over Frame Trap. I think that explains the obvious drop off in reviews and hopefully we can be more empathetic to that
