I remember the old Bullring markets which were just as exciting, if not more. My bus used to go around the top of them. I would get off the bus at New St, walk past the Rotunda and down a subway into them. There was more variety and more shouting. On the other hand the Patans (Afgani) community have cornered the veg and fruit market and have cut throat low prices. If you go towards the end of market day you can get 3 bowels for £1.75!

@ English Rose - t's funny that you mentioned the old bull ring in your comment. I can't even remember what the old Bull Ring used to look like any more. I do remember the long gone C&A store and going up towards Aston University then you had to go down under the dinghy stairway. All long gone.

@@khadijascorner. The bullring is one of my strongest memories of my teenage years. My mum took me to the old C+A to buy my school uniform in secret because my dad refused to pay for it, lol. I was 11 years old just starting secondary school. Later on we used to get dressed up and hang around town to show off our latest fashions and check out the latest craze of punks, mods and new romantics. All those screeching starlings nesting in the old buildings. I could never forget those days.

I have found that but check all the stalls before I buy. I've had strawberries and blueberries more than half the price of the supermarkets last me all week but I have had some things like Grapes go off very quickly.

I buy there most weeks, it is mostly good quality. They obtain it from Birmingham Wholesale market mostly. You just have judge how fresh it is so I tour all the sellers and make a judgement where to buy. It's much much cheaper than the supermarkets.

This shows the growing level of poverty in the UK aggravated by the rising cost of living. I think this is the new trend of Food Bank where people pay token rather than the usual free package associated with the food bank. I wish you and others the best in your endeavours.

Lanreath Oloyin : There is NO poverty in the UK . Where are the starving children? When/ where have you Ever seen a child walking without shoes on their feet going around with with a begging bowl ? Anyone and everyone Blessed to live in the UK has every one of their needs catered for by the Government. Benefits are given to provide the necessities and not luxuries, such as a galaxy iPhone, 60" television, designer label clothes ,a car etc. There is NO poverty in the UK, simply people living beyond their means, who forgot to acknowledge the Grace of God for their many Blessings .

@@lorrettacrowley5922 thanks for your reply. However, the damning report on the UK food bank system is an acknowledgement of the rising poverty in the UK and other Western World. Also, the current ongoing strike action by UK labour unions demanding for increased wages is a significant evidence that people are going much poorer with the current wages. The list is on and on. My prayers to you and others in the diaspora is for you all to have a blissful live wherever you are. I come in peace.

@@lanreoloyin4914 : then we should just agree to disagree, as I am steadfast in my belief ( knowing ) having lived over 60yrs in Birmingham, and grateful for the privilege of having had free school dinners ( also provided by St Patrick's Church during the 6 wks holidays) The free shoes provided by the Bham evening mail, the big box of " broken and mended" toys that were always delivered on a Christmas eve, or eating the left overs off the plates that I always volunteered to wash up for my friends mom, living by candlelight whenever the electric was cut off, using the same bar of lifebuoy soap to wash yourself in that you had to hand wash the clothes in. I was not at all embarrassed to wear someone else hand me down clothes , I was merely grateful that I was warm! But Never have I experienced or witnessed poverty in Bham in my life! The absolute truth of the matter was ( and still is today) misappropriation of the money given by the government ( Social allowance ,back then) to adequately feed and clothe ones children. Also in peace 👍
