It is art. Madonna pushed the envelope, when this came out I was 17 it didn’t look or feel porn then as much as it does not today either because it was stylishly put together. But in 1990 it was something new that was probably seen in soft porn (I wouldn’t even call this that) and open peoples eyes about what was around and Madonna made it normal and out in the main stream. This was a flavour of Madonna’s next direction in music for a new decade with the Erotica album (1992) which is still my favourite album by Madonna.

The depictions of "sex" was not the problem. This video got banned because it had men with men. the girl on girl action was pushing the limit but would've been "OK" at the time but as soon as they noticed that 2 boys where sitting too close on the couch they said NOPE. Then they saw the women in drag and said NOPE NOPE, Then they noticed the 2 dudes with hardly any of their drag makeup on and they said HELL NO. The video did eventually get played, but only after midnight with a hugh warning message beforehand. Imagine a Lil Nas X video in 1990 lol

This amazing, Jean-Baptiste Mondino directed video was so 'apparently' shocking' at the time of release, that MTV banned it, but Madonna was savvy enough to release it as a VHS video single. It co-starred her beau at the time, model Tony Ward (Who later appeared in the film, 'Hustler White'). Also making an appearance in the video is Jose Gutierez Xtravaganza, who was in the video for 'Vogue', and was one of the dancers on the 'Blond Ambition Tour'. He is the current father of the House of Xtravaganza on the NYC Ballroom scene. ;) xx
