Sooo grateful for this video. I work at a car production plant on the Doorline. I have a better understanding of functions within the panel. I used my knowledge I learned from work and applied it to my own car! Turns out the pins were bent in the lock switch! I lined them up correctly and got the switch working better than when I first bought the car (it would only unlock SOMETIMES). Now I am able to lock and unlock using the switch

dude, i have been struggling with my unlock button on my drivers side since i bought the car. sometimes it would work, sometimes it wouldnt. i kinda chalked it up to being a quirk of the car, the passenger side just straight up didnt work. after watching this i thought, meh, i think i can do that. went in, cleaned the terminal and i swear i heard angels singing as i pushed the button back and forth and it worked. i go and try the other side and find out THE WIRE WASNT EVEN ATTACHED TO THE BUTTON!!! I clean the terminals anyway, reattach the wire and boom, that side works now too. Thank you so much for making this video. maybe now my wife wont hate driving my "quirky" car.

A couple of things to note: 1) The plastic cover behind the door handle is meant to be released from the back side. While you can open it from the front, you will likely put a lot of stress on the clips, possibly even breaking them. Go easy. 2) On my car (2012 Mazdaspeed 3), the driver's side door lock switch does not have a blue piece, just two clear pieces. It does not matter which way they go back together. 3) Do not scrape the contacts with a screwdriver. They are gold plated to prevent corrosion, and if you scratch the gold off, they will rust and eventually, fail completely. Instead, use isopropyl alcohol (highest concentration you can get so it evaporates quickly), and a cotton swap (Q-tip). This will prevent any accidental damage to either contact pad.

Ok so to your first point do you mean you should pry from close to the locks or the door handle? Because I’ve always pulled it off as shown in the video. Right by the door handle (you saw me finish pushing near the locks but it was already loose so didn’t matter at that point.). 2: mazda 3 speed always has small differences but it is good info for anyone watching that has the speed 3. 3: your method is defiantly a better method. but, a light scrape to get off any debris isn’t going to hurt it. Thanks for watching!

This also works on a 2012 Mazda CX-9. Info: I do not have a key fob, just an aftermarket key. The drivers door would not lock while inside the car or using the key in the door while outside. I thought it would need a new door lock actuator. I saw this video and tried this on my car. I cleaned the contacts with alcohol and now everything works like is is supposed to. All four doors and the hatch lock and unlock. Thanks so much for this video!!!!!

The reason I looked into a solution now is that the front door has started locking itself shortly after getting out - once when the keys were inside the car, and once when they weren't. Hoping the two issues (finicky button & random locking) are connected and this fixed both... 🤞🏼

This hack worked on 2013 CX-9. The driver side switch was intermittent but the front passenger side lock switch was operational. Once opened up, dirt was visible on the upper contact. Note it can be done without removing the interior door panel, but a thumbwheel ratcheting screwdriver would help. Worth doing when you have to do a regulator/motor replacement while you have easy access.

It is pretty incredible how it works. This has been a big thing on these cars. I never really knew why though. Ya using iso is the smarter choice. If I redid the video that’s what I would have shown. All of them usually look clean but, it works to do this about 90% of the time. My gf does so I have a few videos out. Have a transmission removal video. I have some more coming for it like making the headlights tied to a relay to auto shut off with the key. I also have a remote start video coming a little later on. If there’s anything you want to see I can make videos on it. Thanks for watching!

@@JunkyardJunkie not sure what year yours is, but this is a great, easy car to learn diy suspension work, brake work, etc. there are already a number of vids out there but more of those are always welcome. Mine also came without cruise control and I've been told its just a matter of getting and installing the steering wheel module (hoping to do a junkyard pull) and convincing the dealer to reprogram the system. (the wiring/etc are supposedly already there). I've been tempted to look at replacing the center cup holder console, have seen a few discussions about mods for that (i have a 2012 m3).

So when they do go up and down to they sound ok? If so this is most likely your problem. If it makes a plastic grinding noise or just strains to go up and down then it may be your window motor regulator. Do you use a key fob or the physical key to lock from the outside?
@dankizzle

@@francischoi4469 I use the locks inside! I think my issue is the screws weren’t screwed in all the way, but now my locks on my actual door handle won’t move very much.

Ok first remove the switch completely see if it works again (I assume it was working before?). If it works again just grab a new switch and swap it out. If it doesn’t more diag is required. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

Had to do this on my motorcycle switch, good to see it’s worth trying on my Mazda, I’ll give it a whirl! Edit: they didn’t even look dirty, but a little gentle scrape and clean with contact cleaner and they work like new. Way to save $50 per switch!

@@JunkyardJunkie question: Did you have any issues with it throwing a B126A:13 code for an open in the drivers door lock circuit after this? Scratching my head in what’s wrong with it now. Odd, because the door locks function great.

No issues for me and many others. Did this pop up right after doing this?
@georgesteffens7489

@@JunkyardJunkie it seemed to, but I have a feeling this was a dumb luck coincidence. The only thing I can figure is the switch/circuit that throws that code was about worn out before I cleaned the switches, and then a few rapid fire tests of the switches (lock, unlock, etc) finished it off. There was nothing I could have specifically done to ruin it. So I dug around Google and found a diagram and flow chart from Mazda for that very code. The only answer is the actuator/latch has now failed. But that actuator has multiple circuits in it, all sharing power and ground. There are circuits for the locking and unlocking. There is one circuit for simply the dash "door ajar" light. There is another circuit which registers to the BCM that the door is locked, and this is the circuit which failed. So since all other functions are fine, I'm leaving it alone until we have the cash for a brand new OEM actuator. Fun stuff!

No but what you can do (had to do it on this car too) is shoot some lubricant in there (on the door that’s where the sensor is). Something like pb blaster, crowl oil or even wd40. Then work the latch back and forth should fix it right up. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

Take the switch panel out and then take it apart making sure you keep it upside down (white up) then remove the circuit board and douse the switch with IPA and work the switch back and forth that will clean the cola soda out and get the switch working again.
