In this challenge I have to try and boil water in a steel cup using one stick as my fuel for the fire and pot hanger. This is a useful skill if in a survival situation out in the wilderness. Had a blast doing this challenge, you guys should give it a go and thanks to everyone who suggested it. Comment below some more challenges I can try! - Mike

My scout troop used to do a "shoe box" challenge. We could take whatever clothes we were wearing, and whatever would fit in a standard size shoebox. We had to hike at least two miles, and stay out at least two nights. It was great to pear down to only what we absolutely needed, and when we were done we had a useful kit to keep in the car. (Shoebox, by the way, was defined as 7" x 5" x 14", +/- half an inch or so) I'd love to see you try something like this.

anybody who puts them self in a survival situation with out a knife, and folding saw and a way to start a fire has no business hiking so far in the woods and get lost! So who ever is complaining about when you say that does not know what they are talking about and should not say anything at all!!! great video brother ! keep it up!

Cool video. Here's a suggestion. Bug out in your girlfriends car and see if you can survive with what's in there for an overnight camp. Scenario would be... you borrowed her car to go sompeplace, the car broke down due to fuel issue on a remote road, and you needed to evacuate the car and make an overnight survival camp till help arrived. Which would be jaxx of course with a barrel of brandy around his neck.

p1a9d6d6y that's sort of the joke. Imagining a Jack Russell with a small barrel of brandy around his neck. I bet he could carry at least a pint of booze...and in a "survival situation" that'd be just fine. Lol

@captainyoni

p1a9d6d6y in a survival situation, the St. Bernard would exhaust to many precious resources, thusly making him a liability. He would need to be dispatched and barbecued in short time. The jack Russell eats and drinks little, and is of far more entertainment (Have you seen them ride a unicycle in a tu-tu?). How about this for a Challenge, make some survival hooch/alcohol at the home camp? Totally aweome ale? Bushcraft brandy Series? Now we're getting Somewhere! Cheers!

For a winter survival challenge, try completely submerging yourself in sub freezing water, getting out and starting a fire from wood you still have to collect, without using an open flame as your ignition source. That is a true survival challenge, as even when you are prepared for it, the threat can be just as real in training. Semper Fi

Next time you want do one of those cut-outs for hanging a pot, you might consider that the stop-cut would be far easier to put in with the saw. After you can whittle in the 45° much more easily.

Great video Mike. How about you see how many of those wood ants you can count in fifteen minutes? It was like the forest floor was alive! Now I understand why you mentioned before that the Badgers Rest camp was a more suitable summer location. On a serious note, have you considered constructing some sort of rain water collection device? If it's not used for drinking you can at least make use of the water for washing stuff and making fires safe, thereby allowing your drinking water to go further.

Mike, a fun way to find challenges is to build some randomness into the challenge. Start out with an incomplete mission statement like "Make _____________ " then add incomplete limits or details statements like "....using only ______ , and ________" . Then make lists for each. You can make numbered lists then roll dice or draw a playing card and fill the challenge in by luck of the draw. Invite friends, viewers, etc to give suggestions if you like. It can be quite challenging, a bit of extra fun, and you can bring a friend along and both draw your own challenges to have a friendly competition to see completes the challenge first. A fun little game both to make up the lists as well as come up with different challenges. Draw your challenge on camera, and go to it! Throw in blank cards, wild cards, penalty cards, and it can get quite challenging, possibly ridiculous, but fun.

Cool idea. I'm on a logging sports team for college and we compete accross the northeastern US. Fire build and speed water boil is one of the events i do for my team. We are given one piece of firewood so probably about twice the size of this stick and a gallon sized can. I would've used up all of the wood no need for a stand just build a good base or hold it in your hand if you have a glove and don't mind the heat.

Did the rules state you must use a pot hanger? If not you could build your fire between two rocks and use a smaller stick or boil more water with the same size stick. Very good job. I like that you used all the chips from the pot hanger build. It's been very hot here in Oklahoma. You almost don't need a fire to boil water. Good video!
