Real deal, DIY how to video in 1 take - rear disc brake swapping. No Scarebird BS, this is how you do it without time wasting and nonsense you see in other Honda rear disc brake conversion / trailing arm swap vids. Oh ya, the rusty rotors cleaned up nice on the lathe!!!

The turbo Chevy C10 project/restoration is taking forever, so today I decided to do some easy mods to one of the Hondas to make myself feel like I'm getting something done! The side benefit is I'm getting parts off the shelves and onto cars, and everything that comes off gets out of my shop and to the recycler/trash.
On a suggestion I decided to swap the other side rear disc brakes while the camera records. Off with the old drum brakes, on with the rear disc brakes!
Car is a 1994 USA Honda Civic Ex coupe. This car is always a pleasure to work on because so far, nothing is seized.
Next mod for this car is a CRV 2.0 B20 Swap.
Civic Disc Brake #RearDisc #BrakeConversion using oem parts from an acura integra, civic si, del sol si or better. I prefer this to #scarebird kit for several different reasons.

For whatever reason the 96-00 only has one prop valve, so nothing to do. However I’d swap out the front knuckles/brakes to the larger ex/si for the most factory setup. If you check my ‘98 civic, that’s the setup I’m running now. But I’m likely going 5 lug with the awd conversion.

Yes for these cars you need to make sure you get the correct or best proportioning valve. For the typical non abs rear brake 4th or 5th gen civic swap, if you don’t change the proportioning valve the rear brakes lock up prematurely. Not safe in poor weather.

@GIZZMOTORSPORTS
@GIZZMOTORSPORTS 3 жыл бұрын
I would say everything is wrong with that kit. The scarebird is an additional $100 usd shipped in the USA. It’s takes way longer to install, you need to buy the big torx bit. And if ever you smoke a curb with a rear wheel you may need to straighten or replace that bracket rather then get another Integra part. It’s best to keep everything as factory Honda as you can. I ran into similar issues with my c10 brakes with every so custom it’s a nightmare to replace parts.

The 2dr Integra cables are a tad short but wrk just fine. The prop valve for a non abs integra is a 40/40, grab it **edit, grab the 40/40 valve in case you get an eg one day, those valves are about to become obsolete. For your ek get the front brakes along with the rear and run your stock prop valve.

That Honda spindle part attached with the torx was never sold separately from Honda, so you are forced to buy the whole arm anyway or buy used. In both cases you are getting the whole arm. Google Scarebird bracket, I think that's what you are after but honestly just get the whole used arms like I did in this vid :) I hope that helps, any other questions dont be afraid to ask. Are the brake booster, and brake master cylinder extremely nessesary? I get that the proportioning valve is mandatory since I will definitely be doing a ton of hard braking while racing, but I'm really skeptical about the brake master cylinder and brake booster.
@GIZZMOTORSPORTS
@GIZZMOTORSPORTS 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I 100% agree with that. The 2 lines coming out of the master appear to be diagonally split in the proportioning valve. The size of master or booster will not affect brake balance. itachis Garage With discs there is less brake fade. Without the prop valve panic braking from 120+mph on the street or dragstrip was always super sketchy as rear gets light, the brakes lock up and it becomes all about keeping the rear from coming around. On ice it’s also very obvious after prop valve swap, especially braking in a turn, no prop valve swap in this situation you cannot panic stop, it’s all gentle threshold braking. Swap the valve and it’s s regular car again. Rear discs and the correct proportioning valve are worthwhile modifications, I highly recommend.
@Highway94

@@GIZZMOTORSPORTS so if you're just going for looks ; such as a slammed look always driving slow and steady the 4040 proportioning valve wouldn't really be nessesary but on a more intense battle ground the 4040 prop valve would definetly be an important asset to swap.

not yet, not on this car but I will once I put it back on the road. The prop valve replacement is a must if you drive in wet or icy or snowy roads. Without it the back end locks up before the front and you may spin out. On my last drag Honda on dry roads when brake hard from 110mph+ I always had my hands full, I strongly recommend whatever prop valve Honda put on the similar brake setup that you are recreating. @kincaid stockman rear brakes are a direct bolt in, I’d check the master cyl size and swap it if different. Do both cars have abs? That engine swap will also be straight forward.

GIZZMOTORSPORTS ill chrck the mc this evening, Im not sure if theyre the same size. The integra has abs but the civic does not. And yeah the engine/trans and ecu are all a direct swap in.

kincaid stockman sounds like you have it under control, the prop valve is built into the abs unit. The civic is on the firewall, do some panic stopping and see if the rear locks up too early. I’ve heard but have not confirmed all the 96+ prop valves are the same.
