Doug Demuro is going to be joking about how stupid this feature is in 20 years. "There's an extra hand hold....4 inches below the roof rack...in case you need help lifting your foot....don't know why you would need that but Hyundai designers decided to put it there."

I think the design was not thoroughly checked. I think all the SUVs in this range have the same issue. They all look the same with minor differences. The car industry is at its design capacity.

So you put your hand there before you try to get to the roof. And when you need to get to the roof you just put both hands on the roof rack to climb up on the door sill. Got it 😂

I haven't seen the rest of the vehicle, but wouldn't buy it just because of this feature. I live in Michigan, and that thing would be full of salt and ice in the winter, and dirt in the summer. Long term, that pillar will be a corroded mess. It's worse than useless. It's a designed in failure point.

You'll get better roof access if you use the rear tire as opposed to the sill. The hand hold makes more sense then to hoist yourself up, all the while keeping the door closed.

I used to be a New car sales manager. The fact that you can lock that hand hold is Priceless. Other than that, it would get filled with dirt, water, insects, and other crap. Good Job Hyundai.

That’s NOT what the grab handle is there for. It is designed so that you can climb on the tire to access the roof rack without opening the rear door! Very useful feature for loading a ski or cargo box.

You haven’t seen it on other cars because it is not a good design for an assist handle. How often are you going to need to lock it? After every time you use the car? Seems like more of an afterthought than an intentional design of an assist handle.

I can see if there's a tie down point in that space to add a place to secure the rack items to the body, but the handle is stupid.. it's not available on the much better optioned limited trim.

This is why hyundai/kia can never be taken seriously. Yes, cool grab handle. But on a crossover that sits low and not meant for offroading? On a car that looks like a copycat version of the defender but doesn’t come with any of the functionality that makes a defender what it is?

Not to be rude or anything but this looks like one of the most useless feature a car company has ever put on an vehicle. One thing Hyundai could do for this vehicle is to make it last more than 10 yrs through hard driving and offroading and lots of highway driving. But it's a hyundai. Still loving your videos and shorts. Keep up the great work guys and girls of tfl. Still, Power Wagon dont care!!!!!!
