Hospital Construction

Күн бұрын

Week 12 in the ongoing Ⓢ series, which follows the construction of a new 13-story senior living building in San Francisco. This is a #construction #timelapse with various closeups and "sub-time-lapses" at various speeds, condensing the week of April 20 - 25, 2020, into about 54 minutes.
This episode turned out a little longer than I was expecting, setting a new record for the longest video of this "Ⓢ series". Perhaps I should have shortened things a little more, oh well. There are a lot of long, wide shots in this episode.
We see multiple H's being installed - we know that this channel's logo will be embedded in that building forever! All around the elevator shaft, which might possibly be more than just an elevator shaft, I'm guessing there might be a structural component to it as well due to the amount of rebar and columns around it.
More columns go up (both rebar placement and concrete pumping), and we see the start of the journey upwards as the #shoring for the next floor up from ground level is started on. On Tuesday, the front of the two concrete pumping towers (high rise pumps) gets its top (boom) and is actually used to pump #concrete for the first time. There's a small concrete pour of what looks like the start of a skateboard park, but I assume is actually going to be a ramp down to the lower parking level.
The street is being cut up, although that may not be directly related to this building, it may be part of a separate "Bus Rapid Transit" project that is going on, or could be a combination of both projects, I don't know.
In an unfortunate sign of the times, we see the check-in procedures that the workers go through these days, including having their temperature checked and verifying that they have a face mask. They get a wrist band and are allowed entry if they pass. Although, just as I see out in the general public, I do notice some wearing their masks incorrectly (inexplicably covering their mouth but not their nose, or only covering their chin) and a few not wearing any mask at all - same sorts of things I see anywhere else.
We usually just skip past the nighttime hours in these videos, but this time we watch the security guard making his rounds in the wee hours of Tuesday morning, and on Friday morning at 2 am we notice someone abandon a nice little cart in the alley for some reason, that gets snatched up on Friday.
And various other activities scattered all throughout the episode. Hope you find it entertaining!

Hello H C, great video just amazing. Lots going on as always, all the workforce getting on with the job, huge respect to the guys tying in the massive amount of rebar, the woodworkers for preparing the floor and the form's for the huge concrete pour that is coming. It is also good to see the medical checks at the site entrance. Continue to stay safe 😷 and thanks for sharing.

At 17:00 you see a partially--poured round column that has the rebar cage too close to the edge of the concrete and should be repaired/repoured before any further pours happen. Looks like the dobies shifted when the placed the form and nobody checked before the pour. But I doubt anyone is paying attention as sure don't see much independent supervision.

At 19:53 it becomes clear what the "H" structures of re-bar are for. Notice the large number of bars forming an "X" through the crossbar of the "H." Their diagonal placement is to resist lateral movement, which comes from earthquakes. We saw those diagonal rods being driven into the structure in several earlier closeup shots, but this one makes their purpose clear.

Hi, is it usual in the U.S. that they didn't use spacers between the formwork and the rebar (e.g. at 6:30 rebar in the tube or at 17:12 the very unequal thickness of concrete on the left and right of the right pillar) ? Here in germany we need to use spacers almost everywhere to ensure a defined miniumum coverage of concrete over the rebar.
@firesurfer
@firesurfer 4 жыл бұрын
Without being on-site it's impossible to know if it's centered or not. I think there is so much rebar, it is virtually a rigid wall. '' Centering'' it may be redundant or impossible. There may be something we can't see.
@stainfels1685
@stainfels1685 4 жыл бұрын
@@firesurfer Hi, without spacers the centering of the rebar will be random! And the right concrete coverage is important for the strength of the components in addition to its resistance to fire and corrosion.

No, they do not move. Interesting idea, though. But the load is moved in and out while the crane is rotating and moving the load into and out of position, so they would have to keep moving in and out continually all that time in concert.

@constructionwatcher5381 4 жыл бұрын
They are placing the left third of the rear wall. At about 18:40 you can see the crew work their way out from behind the rear white concrete tower and start working on the area to the left of that tower. Before that you can see the rebar on that section of wall, and a little later it's covered with concrete. They are using the method where they form just the back side, then spray the concrete over the rebar, smoothing face of the wall as the work. They start way in the corner early in the morning, but are too low to be seen because of the forms for the other walls in that area.

"go to the truck on the side" says nothing. "move it to the pillar next to the wheelbarrow" also says nothing. who has the radio? he's a LONG ways up there. how can he see exactly who has the radio? saying radio does not tell me what type of information he is getting to do his job. The huge structure of rebar is a set of shear walls, whose job it is to stabilize the building during an earthquake. They have been placed around the elevator shafts, no doubt because that's a natural place to put immovable walls where they won't interfere with flexible use of the floor space.
