If west ham fans want their club to be BIG, then they should stop complaining about minor things such as the food outside the stadium "not being for football fans". So start supporting your club no matter what! and make an effort! cause the owners surely have done their part to make this club great! now its time for the fans to SHOW UP

West Ham are sort of a weird London purgatory. They aren't a neighborhood club like Milwall, Fulham, or Charlton, but they also aren't anywhere near the big boys of Spurs, Chelsea, and Arsenal either.

No, the problem is that West Ham ARE a neighbourhood club, but the fans think they're one of the big boys. It's that separation and over expectation that divided the club.

+Matt I WBA I completely agree with you, mate. but that's because the spine of england's only world cup was made in west ham: bobby moore, geoff hurst, martin peters... so, the feeling is that west ham won it for england, gave the english their greatest achievement in world football. and for the fans this single fact make west ham a great, big and traditional club, even amongst its fancy london neighbors.

I don't buy into the myth that they saved us. We are still in debt, it is just that we are in debt to them and at a very high rate of interest. We would have found an investor, we wouldn't have gone under, even teams that have gone into administration have come out OK (like Southampton). They peddle the myth that they saved us but they have sold our home and our soul, they promised that we would move up to the next level but they go shopping for loan signings and unproven foreign signings.

I’m not even a West Ham fan but I miss Upton Park and my heart goes out to the fans, who no doubt feel they have at best lost some identity, at worst sold their soul. As a Newcastle fan I know how special it feels to have a stadium slap bang in the middle of the area it is representing. A similar thing happened to Coventry City - the old Highfield Road was surrounded by terraced houses right in the centre of the city. In 2005 they moved to a bigger, sparklier stadium on the outskirts of the city, right next to an industrial estate. It’s like a different club altogether.

HG Football I think it’ll always take a long time for a new ground to feel like home you’ve got to think a lot of these teams have or had played at their respective grounds for nearly 100+ years and are stepped in world and footballing history so it’ll always take a while to settle in I think Everton (Like Spurs) have gotten the move spot on though the new ground moves away from the modern ‘bowl’ design and is a nice blend of old and new school on the outside The problem with West Ham is they moved to a completely different part of East London and shot them into a ground which isn’t even a football stadium that’s basically in the middle of an industrial estate whereas Everton are only moving down the road to a purposefully built ground which keeps all the history intact

West Ham need to renovate that stadium. Move the seats closer and introduce some safe standing (once it's allowed). Atmosphere would be mad then... For the record, their issues on the pitch are totally unrelated. They've had many injuries and really poor management. Their squad appears good because of some stand out players, but compared to seven-eight other teams is still worse. Payet is incredibly overrated (still class) and cannot be a one man team. West Ham need to get two proper decent, proven strikers, because right now they're relying on inconsistent fools. They'll be okay. They're 12th, it's not that bad. Get a striker and they'll start climbing. Need some proper investment this summer though.

I could relate to this way to much, I am a AIK stockholm fan and the exact same thing happened. We moved from an old stadium holding 30 000, to a brand new stadium holding 50 000. the soul have completely died, even though its bigger the old one was waaaay louder because it was so tight to the pitch. And to get to the new one you have to go through the biggest shit mall in all of Scandinavia, its all corporate now and no passion. They tell you its for the the best, you will get more money, you will play better, go to champions league and so on. But we are five years in now and were still not close to even winning the league. And now the old stadium that me and my father grew up on has been teared down and and made in to FUCKING PARKING SPACES!! why not let it stay up and let people park some other place, ohh my god!! its so frustrating. Pele won his first world cup final at that stadium, you could feel the history on the walls when you walked in, now stupid people park their fucking volvos on that history.

As an Arsenal fan I totally understand this - i remember Highbury Stadium (now flats - they kept the modern facade of course), but a new stadium always takes time. Then I remember Spurs and West Ham owners going head to head to attempt a move to the London Stadium like it was something to win - and West Ham being chosen seemed like bragging rights, oh dear... Now the astute fan who goes to the game would realise athletic stadiums are not designed for football. What West Ham fan's need to see is the owners pay to gradually transform the seating to be rectangular and its border between fan and pitch be equal all the way around, to turn it into a genuine football stadium.
@peterburry2531

Unfortunately West Ham can't permanently alter the stadium because they don't own it, and I believe that it has to remain available for athletics events anyway. What West Ham really need is a proper football stadium that they DO own.

@@peterburry2531 Agreed I met a fan who had the N from Upton in his house, a while back, who doesn't like going to London stadium, because it doesn't feel like home, it feels borrowed. West Ham need to grow too big or find a stadium that can accommodate the massive crowds they get.

Just found this. I am a Pompey fan, but went to Upton Park to see those classic cup games against Swindon in 60s and 70s; and latterly to watch you beat Southampton year after year (nice one). Loved the Pie and Mash store by the ground. Eating there was all part of the ritual. Best wishes to all West'am fans.

I was fortunate enough to attend my first PL game at Upton Park, a 1-1 draw vs. Everton in 2015. Having a pint in the Boleyn pre-match with everyone singing and chanting was wonderful. The energy around the stadium was palpable, and inside it was just great! I have yet to attend a match in London Stadium, but it sounds like the whole experience of a West Ham match has been sterilized.

This is the reason i fell in love with newcastle united. One half of my family were chelsea fans and i watched one match and the atmosphere was dull, sure the football was good (2009-10 season) but then my dad (whos side of the family are newcastle fans) took me to watch them play barnsley in the championship (i was 10 years old) and the atmosphere was insane. I was aware we were in the lower division but the 52000 seater stadium filled almost completely full singing all game with great support just made me fall in love and that passion is what football is all about. Ive watched league 1 teams generate more of an atmosphere in 12000 seater stadiums than large "business" teams in 60000 seaters

The new place is like going shopping and for food with a football match thrown in. I'd be devastated if my club moved to a soulless bowl away from Aston. I'm a Villa fan and Aston may a shithole but it's home to my club and has been for over 100 years. I love to walk in the steps of my ancestors when i go to a game. West Ham fans deserve better.

This is a great chance for the Hammers to move forward. Attract more fans, better players and perform on a bigger stage, but at the same time keeping the old partisan supporters and atmosphere. As a Londoner and Gunner I really think London needs a strong WHUFC in the Premiership. West Ham always had a tradition of developing young locaI players and without the youth policy and just buying foreigners that would be the downfall. I hope it all turns out well, though.

I've been a Gooner since 1981, and I wish I could agree with everything you've said here, but I get the feeling that Sullivan, Gold and Brady did this to fill themselves up, the same reasons that Stan Kroenke bought Arsenal. At least Arsenal fans have got place like Piebury Corner on Holloway Road to eat before a match and avoid the dreadful "catering options" at the new ground. Nathan's Pie & Mash on the other hand couldn't up sticks from Barking Road, and even if they could, whoever is actually in charge of running the Olympic Precinct / Concourse / whatever it is wouldn't allow it.

I stumbled upon this because I routinely watch the Copa90 videos and docs. A lot of the team owners see the $$$ but do not appreciate that the clubs success is tied to the fans at the core. As an American we see it here all the time and part of the reason i fell in love with the game is because the atmosphere and love was so unique to anything we have here. Hate to see this feeling from the fans, wonder now 5 years on if this has changed some with West Ham having some success on the pitch again.

Ruin a football club? Oh fuck off. Except last year, where have West Ham typically been in the prem? In the bottom half, but stay up. Where are they this season? In the bottom half, but probably gonna stay up. Ruining a football club is what venky's have done to my club, Blackburn, or what the Oyston's have done to Blackpool, or what Sisu have done to Coventry. But oh no, +copa90 make a video about poor little West Ham, never seen them discuss what's happened to my club though. Why is what the venkys have done not ruining a football club? Look at where we were 6 years ago compared to now, and with how important Blackburn Rovers is to the local economy, the entire town has suffered as a result of the Venkys. Maybe Blackburn just doesn't matter because it's outside London

Boss3289 Im not talking about the fans being the best or not. The issue was if their stadiums were resulting in success, & again you proved my point because Lazio & Roma have been dominated by Juve in the Serie A for a while now. 1 of the reasons for that domination can be traced to just how close the fans are to the players at Juventus Stadium.

The difference is that if you grow up with, and fall in love with, a football club, then it's the whole experience... these teams you've mentioned might create a good atmosphere, but it's what they fell in love with... this isn't the case with WHU! The match day experience has been altered, so the fans have been moved away from the pitch... The extra size of the stadium has meant they'd have to make more noise just to create a similar sounding volume, and the extra seating has only added more casuals, rather than die-herd supporters... and they never sing a word! Plus the gentrification/relocation of the area they've set roots in, is going to have a massive effect on the match day experience! Many clubs recently in the UK have had their 'town-centre' grounds moved to the outskirts, or to 'shopping-precincts', and the fans never enjoy it nearly as much! All the local business' out of business to push people towards Domino's and Nando's is never a good thing! Faceless corporations winning out again! To think all this change isn't going to effect supporters, and have the knock-on effect of reducing the atmosphere (and thus, to some part, the teams performances), is naïve!

Running track excuse is bullshit. There are many clubs who create an incredible atmosphere with a running track. Karen Brady and her torrid officially ruined west ham

Differance is that most of us grew up with a great atmosphere and then got moved to a stadium far away from the actual pitch. If you supported us..You'd understand.

My heart goes out to all the West Ham fans. As an Arsenal fan, I know what a change in grounds can do to the atmosphere of the club, and it takes a lot to overcome that! To this day we still struggle with having the electricity that was so incredibly obvious and close up to the pitch at Highbury. Fingers crossed for the Hammers...and I'm saying this knowing that you lot were the ones that broke our undefeated streak at the Emirates. Let's get back to that world beater attitude! Come on lads!

This is why I like what my boys are doing. Not moving anywhere well apart from half a pitch to the left. Same area, same route same everything. Just more people

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Do the Dundee FC story. 25 points deducted and administrated 3 times and still stayed up. Now, we are in the the top tier of Scotland and relegated our rivals last season after 30 years of them making us suffer. Also, 15 years ago, we had legendary players like Claudio Cannigia, Fabian Caballero, Julian Speroni and Juan Sara so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do an episode on us it would mean a lot!

JGD aqt Highly doubt it. The new stadium is being built for football only with atmosphere in mind. It will be like the Calderón but bigger.

Antti-Pekka Uusimaa the supporters already don't like that the club gave away the naming rights to the stadium to wanda and a lot of little things like that are making the fans feel like they are losing their club

excellent video Agree it's not home yet but if we can get a couple of results against London rivals or against the "big six" teams the history will start So far the team has under preformed but things are improving and the atmosphere will come Keep the faith
