Thank you so much for posting this! This was a great way for me to organize all of my units and create a basic plan for myself on how to better teach these topics in order to keep students engaged. I am super curious about the history fair that you mentioned. I have seen your TikTok’s about them, but I would love an in-depth description on how this plays about. I would love to be able to introduce this topic or this idea to my students next year I feel like this is a great project for them to be able to learn, and discover new ways of research.

This is super helpful! Thank you! I teach the same curriculum, except we use World Studies in 6th and then American Republic to Civil War in 7th and then Reconstruction to Vietnam in 8th! What kind of homework are you assigning? Do you take it as a completion grade or do you grade it? For notes, are they just copying the PowerPoint in their notebooks or do you give them something to record their notes on? Last year I did guided notes where they read together and filled in the blanks and then at the end of class we reviewed the slides and had a discussion and I made sure they had all of the blanks they needed. I felt like that worked but I want to make it better this year and make them more accountable. I am our school’s History teacher so I don’t really have anyone to bounce ideas off of! 🙂

Thanks for the positive feedback! Homework: I give classwork assignments 2-3x per week. Unfinished work becomes homework. These are usually the activity manual assignments or something I found on TPT. Notes: I use the Teacher Tools online slides, but edit to make them my own. I significantly shorten them and add images. I spent a ridiculous amount of time last year doing this, but now I have them forever. I only use fill in the blank note sheets for station activities or particular units that I think need extra guidance. Please let me know if you have any more questions. I'm usually quick to reply on Instagram, but we can keep going here, too. Hope you have an incredible year!

I’m curious about the witch trials simulation. Do they form the groups before or after you tap their shoulders? I am about to start student teaching and would love to use this idea if it’s ok with you

After. I tap the shoulders like you would for heads up seven up, except I don't. I just wander around and make it seem like I am. Then I have them open their eyes and try to form groups.
